Can I put my music from my ipod onto a new computer without losing music?
I have had to recently get a new computer. I have iTunes downloaded. I would like to put the music that i have on my ipod onto the new computer. I am afraid to sync in that I will lose my music and have to redo my library and lose purchased music as well.
Is it possible to do it without losing music?

iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod, iPad, and iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.

You should transfer the song files from your iPod to your current computer, add them to the iTunes library, and sync your iPod to that library (after confirming all of those songs are there now).
Any songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded, at no cost, using the Purchased screen in the iTunes Store.

But again, it would be safest to have ALL the songs (on the iPod) in the iTunes library on the computer first. -

If you do not have a back up of the crashed hard drive you can download an app to copy from the iPhone to iTunes on the new hard drive.
I have used Pod2Mac. There is also Pod2PC.

I can't get my songs from my ipod onto my new computer
My old computer crashed and won't even turn on anymore. I purchased a new PC and downloaded itunes. When I attach my ipod it tells me that the songs are not authorized. I've tried to go through the listed steps for authorization, which doesn't help. I've also looked through all the help, but every one involves changing things on your old computer, which I can't do... Help!
You could use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware. -

There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. All you help would be greatly appreciatedHello, friend. If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a step by step guide show you how to transfer iPod music to Mac computer or iTunes library, hope it helps.

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device. Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.
