Can I Put My Organizer Catalog On A Net Work Drive An Share It With Two Computers?

PhotoShop Elements 11, Running Under Windows 7 Professional
The second system would be Running Windows 8.1
It would be nice if I could share the Organizer Catalog between the two systems.
If that does not work, I can back the Catalog up on the Network Drive from the primary system (Running Windows 7) and then download it to the second system (Running Windows 8) since production would take place on the Windows 7 system.  It would just be nice to always have both systems "in sync".

I guess that is not a surprise.  Multiple systems accessing a database at the same time is difficult to manage.
I will choose to make frequent back-up on the network drive and then load those backups on the secondary computer.  This restricts the secondary computer from doing any work that needs to be retained but, that is OK.
Thanks for your answer.

  • Can I put my library on an external hard drive and use it between two computers?

    Can I put my library on an external hard drive and use it between two computers? I have two MBP; I will refer to one as computer A and to the other as computer B. I would like to be able to plug in my external hard drive, boot up iTunes, and if there were any changes made to the library previous to its last time accessed on this compluter, they show up on that computer, regardless of being imported on the other.
    A hypothetical example: I import three albums called 1, 2, and 3 on computer A over a week or so. I take the external hard drive and plug it into computer B. The entire library which was visible on A, is visible on B, including albums 1, 2, and 3.
    Is this possible? If so, what files need to be copied onto the external? I'm trying some different combinations, trial and error basically. Hopefully someone knows and can answer before I mess up my library. I also want to do this to free up space on my computer. All importing will be done from disc.

    iTunes/Preferences/Advanced : point your iTunes to the new location of the Library.
    Set "Share on local network" in the Sharing tab, and you or everyone on the local network can play your music.
    You make a backup first of the Library.
    Move the follwing to the new location:
    /Users/your username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music
    have fun.

  • On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture.  How can I access the Aperture Library  on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup?  I can only access the application but not the library..

    On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture.  How can I access the Aperture Library  on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup?  I can only access the application but not the library..

    Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
    If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
    If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it.

  • I got a new computer and now iTunes is telling me it can't sync with two computers

    I got a new computer and now iTunes is telling me it can't sync with two computers, it's telling me it will erase what's on my iPad and re-sync. Will I lose my iPad data that's on it?

    No - not at all. Look at that one app that I gave you the link for. That is supposed to transfer all of the iPad content to the new computer. I have no idea how much it costs, but it's worth a look. There are other out there as well. Google "apps to transfer iPad content to computer" or something to that effect. These apps claim to transfer everything.
    Several things to remember - you can still transfer all of the iTunesicon tent that you purchased by using the Transfer Purchases option in iTunes. Just remember to turn off auto syncing before you do it. You will also have to authorize your new computer to transfer the purchase if you haven't done so already. From the iTunes menu on your computer go to Store> Authorize this computer.
    Plus any apps or music that you have bought can be downloaded again at no charge with the cloud feature in the latest iPad iOS.
    EDIT - I see that you did transfer the purchases. Look at one of those apps that I described and they should be able to get you set up. You should also invest in an external hardrive for backing up all of your computer content ... don't want this to happen again!

    If I don't want to use photo stream, can I still upload a bunch of photos to iCloud and then share them with people who do not have iCloud?

    iCloud provides a simple gallery in the form of 'Photo Journal' - uploading of photos from iPhoto to web pages hosted on iCloud, but only from iOS devices; and the photos are compressed to a size adequate for online viewing but are not available in full resolution as with the old MobileMe Gallery. Apple have provided a sample album here.
    There are various other photo gallery services which you may find preferable: some of them are examined here -

    You cannot transfer from the iPhone to the computer.
    You must move the contents of your old computer to the new one directly.
    Use an external hard drive perhaps or restore your old computer backup to your new computer.
    The iPhone is not the source of your data, that is the computer, the iPhone is only a slave device to iTunes.

  • How can I rebuild my Organizer catalog in Premiere Elements?

    The Organizer keeps a catalog of all the media files on your system. In most cases, it will update automatically.
    You can also manually update its files by locating the files with broken links (They'll be displaying a "refresh" symbol, red and green arrows in a circle). To update or remove these links, open the full-feature Organizer in Premiere Elements by clicking on the Tagging button under the Organize tab. Then locate the broken link icons, right-click on each and choose the option to update (You'll then be prompted to browse to the file's location) or delete the thumbnail.
    As a last resort, you can simply remove the current catalog, forcing Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements to rebuild it.
    To do this, go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\ (In Vista go to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\)and change the name of the folder "My Catalog" to "Old catalog". When you relaunch the program(s), they will recreate the catalog based on the media it locates on your drive(s).

    Are you manually copying the .lrcat file from one place to another or are you relying on LR’s backup function to do this?  I would do it manually just to be sure what you’re doing and check the timestamp and size of the copied file and make sure it is the same as the catalog you just copied from.
    Also, how are you copying the file from your house to your friend’s house?  Are your computers networked together, somehow, or are you using a thumbdrive/flashdrive, or is the catalog stored on an external USB drive that you copy across?
    How are you opening the catalog at your friend’s house, by double-clicking on it, or are you just starting LR and expecting it to remember what catalog to open?
    Are these catalogs on the same drive letter at your friends house, either C: or another drive that you’ve configured to be the same drive letter?
    To perfect your process, I’d use a catalog with just one photo in it that you adjust each time in some way that is obvious, and see if you can get that to work and once you are confident with that small catalog, do the large one.
    A final point of clarification, by LR catalog you are referring to a single large file name yourcatalogname.lrcat, right, and that file is not located in a Backups folder?  You can check the locaton of your catalog file by using LR / Preferences / Catalog Settings / General tab and the first line in the Information section shows the folder where your catalog resides.

  • Can I put the Bridge Cache on the external hard drive for images being located there?

    Hi,
    I'm on a MacBook Pro retina.
    While I have a 500 Gb hard drive, I notice that the Bridge CS 6 cache is getting larger quickly (looking forward to 1 Terabyte SSDs).
    I have most of my images on external hard drives, but Bridge CS6's cache seems to be on my computer.
    Can I store the Bridge cache locally?
    So, if I have 1000 images on hard drive A, the cache for them would be on hard drive A.
    And for 100 TIFFS on hard drive B, the cache would be on hard drive B.
    And for the 100 most recent TIFFs I keep on my computer's hard drive, the Bridge cache would be on my computer.
    It this what checking the box next to "Automatically Export Caches To Folders When Possible" does or am I misunderstanding this - and this option only puts  COPY of the cache files on the external hard drive, but the Bridge cache file on my computer still contains all the images, not matter on which hard drive they'd be?

    That is correct as stated above.  In efffect you will now have 2 cache the central cache and the folder cache.  Purge only affects the central cache.  To purge the folder cache you have to click Tools/cache/purge cache for xxx folder.
    You can locate your central cache anywhere you want in edit/preferences/cache.  You will want to purge the cache before doing this and then change location.  THe entire cache will have to be rebuilt.

  • How can I put move requests in stuck and continue working?

    I have a map and a unit moving on this map, I wont to give him 2 moving orders and continue for my another staff.
    this is part of my program so I try to explain to you the parameters of this function in the way I choose to represent it:
    destination:String is a string looking like this: "x,y" where x and y are the coronations.
    getLocNum(location:String, isX:boolean) returns the x value if isX set to true or the y value if its false.
    _units is an Array with images and you can ignore from unitID for now.
    _location:String is also a string form "x,y" family, that show the correct unit location.
    I hope this were clear enough for you to try and help me out with this.
    Here we go:
    public function testMoveUnit(destination:String,unitID:int=0):void
    var myMove:Move=new Move();
    myMove.target=_units[unitID];
    myMove.xTo=getLocNum(destination,true)*30+38;
    myMove.duration=Math.abs(getLocNum(destination,true)-getLocNum(_location,true))*1000;
    myMove.play();
    myMove.yTo=getLocNum(destination,false)*30-28;
    myMove.duration=Math.abs(getLocNum(destination,false)-getLocNum(_location,false))*1000;
    myMove.play();
    _location=destination;
    Right now the unit only moves for his x direction and if I remove the first myMove.play() request so its going for the destination, so the only problem is when I am adding my first move().
    And for another question may be more complicated then that is how can I know if my unit is in a middle of his move and I don't wont to interrupt him right now, I mean at the future when the function be called again.

    sorry for missunderstanding about Move
    possibly its not working because you are calling myMove.play() twice and setting duration twice , try omitting one myMove.play() like below
    public function testMoveUnit(destination:String,unitID:int=0):void
    var myMove:Move=new Move();
    myMove.target=_units[unitID];
    myMove.xTo=getLocNum(destination,true)*30+38;
    myMove.duration=Math.abs(getLocNum(destination,true)-getLocNum(_location,true))* 1000;
    myMove.yTo=getLocNum(destination,false)*30-28;
    myMove.play()
    _location=destination;

  • Can I put my startup/home folder on an external drive?

    I would like to stripe my four internal drives for a high-performance RAID 0 for video editing.
    Is there ANY reason that it would be unwise to put my applications/library/system/users folders on an external firewire drive? (Of course I will continue to do regular backups of these folders, regardless of where they live.)
    Any performance issues, startup issues, etc, that I should be aware of?

    External drives are slower than internal drives but otherwise there's no reason you could not do it. I would not recommend it. I would leave one internal drive as your startup drive and stripe the other three. This would be the faster and more reliable alternative in my opinion.
    Consider putting in a goodly amount of RAM which will also help with video work and limit the amount of disk usage during editing of large files.
