Can I put PC 5300 ram into my Powerbook?
I want to install more ram in my 15" Powerbook G4 1.67 that uses PC 4200 DDR2. Is it correct that PC 5300 DDR2 is backwards compatible, and can be used in my G4? If so, I could move this Ram to a MacBook when I get one in the future.
15" PB 1.67 Mac OS X (10.4.5)
I have 512mb PC4200 DDR2. Can I use 1 gb PC5300 DDR2 in the empty slot? i.e. are 2 different speeds compatible with each other in the same machine?

Can I put the 2Gb RAM (X2) from my MacBook Pro into my MacBook? The intel is different (2Ghz not 2.3) and the speed is 2000 not 1333. But they are both DDR3.
I have just upgraded the Pro to 16Gb and the MacBook is SO slow. Just wondering if I could use the old RAM.Full specification of MB5.1 RAM;
204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM, non-ECC (non parity), unbuffered.
MBP8.1, 8.2 or 8.3;
204-pin PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM, non-ECC (non parity), unbuffered.
PC3 is the same as DDR3. the number is peak transfer rate (approximated).
Further reading suggests your swap may work, but it's not guaranteed. If you get 3 beeps on start up (or the sleep light flashing in bursts of 3), first check it's correctly seated, but be prepared to swap them back.
If you encounter any instability or kernel panics, change them back. -
Can I put a SQL query into a bind variable and then use it to output report
Hi,
Can I put a SQL query into a bind variable and then use it to output report?
I want to create a report and an item "text area" (say P1_TEXT) which can let user to input a SQL query(they are all technical users and knows SQL very well). Then, I use a bind variable (that text area) to store the SQL statement. Then, I add a submit button and I want to use the following to output the report:
select * from (:P1_TEXT);
Do you think it is possible to do that? Any known limitations for APEX in this area?
Thanks a lot,
AngelaYou can, but make sure it's what you really want to do. Make sure you are VERY familiar with SQL Injection. Most people who know what it is, go out of their way to prevent SQL Injection. You're going out of your way to allow it.
You can try using &P1_TEXT. instead of bind variable syntax. Bind variables are one of the best ways to prevent SQL Injection, which is why it's not working for you.
Once again, I strongly urge you to consider the implications of your app, but this suggestion should get it working.

How can I put Locale.loadString("IDS_001") into button.label
I am retrieving the Locale from the system, and need to place the fields of the Array into their respective places.
One of these being for example,
IDS_001
This works, and returns what I'd probably expect. Although why it returns multiple instances I can't yet figure.
public var vIDS_001:String;
Locale.autoReplace = true;
var localeName:String = LocaleID.DEFAULT;
var nf:StringTools = new StringTools(localeName);
trace("Actual local ID: " + nf.actualLocaleIDName);
var defLang:String = nf.actualLocaleIDName;
trace( "Last Operation Status: " + nf.lastOperationStatus );
Locale.setDefaultLang(defLang);
Locale.setLoadCallback(localeCallback);
//Locale.addXMLPath("defLang", "../en/PinPointPremium_en.xml");
Locale.addXMLPath("defLang", "../" + defLang + "/PinPointPremium_" + defLang + ".xml");
function localeCallback(success:Boolean) {
if (success) {
// trace(Locale.stringIDArray); // IDS_GREETING
trace(Locale.loadString("IDS_001"));
var vIDS_001 = (Locale.loadString("IDS_001"));
trace("+++" + vIDS_001);
} else {
trace("unable to load XML");
Actual local ID: en-GB
Last Operation Status: noError
PinPoint the Entered Address
+++PinPoint the Entered Address
PinPoint the Entered Address
+++PinPoint the Entered Address
Test Movie terminated.
This is the button code, and I'm trying to figure out how to get that IDS_001 information into the btnGPS.label. No matter what I try, it errors out
btnGPS = new Button();
btnGPS.width = stage.stageWidth - 20;
btnGPS.height = 25;
btnGPS.x = 10;
btnGPS.alpha = 0.9;
// btnGPS.label = "PinPoint My Current Location";
btnGPS.setStyle("textFormat", btnFormat);
btnGPS.y = stage.stageHeight - 46;
btnGPS.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btnGPSMouseClickHandler);
addChild(btnGPS);
None of these following work in place of the original
//btnGPS.label = Locale.loadString("IDS_001");
//btnGPS.label = IDS_001;
//btnGPS.label = vIDS_001;
Theoretically, loading the Locale XML file should populate the occurences of IDS_001 - but I'm totally lost now. Been looking at this for a few days and now can't see the real picture. Does anyone have any idea how I solve this please ... I know this is so simple, but I can't get it.
thanksok, I need to get back on track.
The app works and is fine. No problem with buttons etc. It's localization.
.... and this works - finally
private static var loc:String = null;
private static var my_txt:String = null;
// Checking for LocaleID for globalization.
// Localization stuff. AS3 2013. (using latest CS6 Flash Pro, AIR and Flex SDK libraries)
// This example is based on the iPhone/iPad, iOS Template in CS6
// get the system language. That's al lwe need. What language is the user using
loc = Capabilities.language;
// if it's en-GB for example, make en_GB
// loc = loc.replace("-","_");
trace("The default system: " + loc);
loc = "de";
trace("The new system: " + loc);
// you can add individual paths for each language like this
Locale.addXMLPath("en", "en/PinPointPremium_en.xml");
Locale.addXMLPath("de", "de/PinPointPremium_de.xml");
// or set your language to the system default and use that
// I put the system language into 'loc'
Locale.addXMLPath(loc, loc + "/PinPointPremium_" + loc + ".xml");
Locale.setLoadCallback(localeCallback);
Locale.loadLanguageXML(loc);
function localeCallback(success:Boolean) {
if(success){
//var my_txt:String = Locale.loadString("IDS_001");
my_txt = Locale.loadString("IDS_001");
trace("The IDS_001 field is: " + my_txt);
// returns "PinPoint der eingegebenen Adresse" which is ok
} else {
trace("unable to load XML");
/* Output
The default system: en-GB
The new system: de
The IDS_001 field is: PinPoint der eingegebenen Adresse
Part 2 is the Button. AND is is this that is tricking me.
I repeat - how do I put the contents of IDS_001 into btnGPS.local with
IF I can put 'loc' into the label, with
btnGPS.label = loc;
why can't I do this
btnGPS.label = Locale.loadString("IDS_001");
btnGPS = new Button();
btnGPS.width = stage.stageWidth - 20;
btnGPS.height = 25;
btnGPS.x = 10;

//btnGPS.label = "PinPoint My Current Location";
// ==============================================
// This actually works - it places "de" into the button. as it should
btnGPS.label = loc;
// this doesn't put the contents into the label
//btnGPS.label = Locale.loadString("IDS_001");
btnGPS.setStyle("textFormat", btnFormat);
btnGPS.y = stage.stageHeight - 46;
btnGPS.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btnGPSMouseClickHandler);

How Can I put A quicktime clip into keynote??
Two Questions,
One:
How Can I put a "get a mac" commercial into keynote. (Like how do i download it and how do i put it in)
Two:
If I download a quick time clip (say, pirates of the Caribbean 2 commercial) How can I insert it into keynote??
ZachYou can put a QuickTime clip on a Keynote slide just by dragging the movie file onto the slide. If the clip is in your Movies folder in your home directory, you can also use the Media browser to insert it. Finally, you can use the Insert menu, and use the Choose... item to pick the file.
To grab one of the "Get a Mac" ads, go to the ad page. Hover your cursor over the thumbnail of the ad, hold down the Control key, and click and hold the mouse button to pop up the contextual menu. Choose "Download Linked File", and the file should be saved to your hard drive. -

Can i put in second HDD into Satellite A300-1EG
Hello,
The question is can i put in second HDD to Toshiba A300-1EG notebook, there is a place for one as I found, and what HDD should it be, i mean 2,5" and etc?
As I read, there can be no connection for HDD, all depends on model, how can I found out?
Thanks.Hi
You can check this yourself.
Remove the plastic cover which secures the second HDD bay.
If there are some HDD connectors then you could install an second HDD.
If the connectors are missing, then you will not be able to use second HDD.
I know its a little but confusing because of the second HDD bay but the point is that different A300 models supports different motherboards and not all motherboards are equipped with two HDD controllers.

Can't put my clock back into my menu bar
I had some operating glitches with my 27" iMac running on 10.8.3 yesterday so I verified my permissions using Disk Utility. However, since I did this, I can't get my clock back into the menu bar. When I access it in System Prefs, and click on 'Clock' I get a beachball for a while. Then it allows me to check 'show date and time in menu bar'. But after some more spinning ball, it unchecks the box itself. What's going on? Anybody know?
Thanks! I had done that, but not re-started properly. All good now.

Can I put a mini DVD into my Mac?
I am trying to transfer my home movies onto my Mac from mini dvds.is it ok to put these mini dvds into the Mac slot??
Do not do that!!!!!!!!!! The user's manual expressly warns you not to insert anything but standard sized CDs and DVDs. Mini discs will get stuck and not eject.

PC2-5300 Ram in a PowerBook G4 High Res?
Hi, All.
I am dying on a vine here. My 17" PowerBook started locking up on me about a month ago and then finally died altogether. I had 2GB of Kingston RAM in it (running smooth for over 2 years). This is the 10/2005 model which takes DDR2 RAM. I took my computer to the Genius Bar, after changing the HD and trying different RAM configurations. We sent it off to have the Logic Board tested, but it was sent back saying the 3rd party RAM was the issue. I tried TechWorks Ram and Samsung RAM, both from OWC, but still got the panics and lock up problems. I took it back to Apple/Genius Bar where the tech spent 2 days running tests and again confirmed my PB worked fine with Apple memory. This, of course, was all done free of charge and I do appreciate that.
So, the tech said he used newer memory, the PC2-5300 RAM that is coming in the new MacBooks. I also read that this memory would work in my PowerBook since it also used DDR2 memory. So, I'm on my 4th type of RAM now, some Hynix PC2-5300 that came out of a new MacBook Pro and when I turn on the computer, the power light blinks 2 or 3 times and that's it. (I have no sound, another issue which hasn't been addressed).
Is there something I need to do to get the computer to recognize this memory, or was I misinformed about it being backward compatible with my PowerBook. I really hate to spend another penny on memory, when it seems like my problem is Logic Board related. However, Apple will not test the logic board until I have Apple RAM in the machine. My guess is they will want the PC2-4200 memory that came with it originally.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my 4th PowerBook and 10th Mac machine I've owned in my lifetime and I have never had this much trouble. I'm going on a month now without resolution.
Thanks in advance.
DerekWelcome to the Apple discussions.
Sorry to hear about the memory issues. Apple sources memory from Crucial/Micron, Samsung, and Hynix, that I'm aware of. So when they say they want 'Apple' memory in there, they are talking one of those brands.
On the Crucial website they say that memory is designed to be backwards compatible, noting, however, that faster memory will operate at the slower speed the computer is designed for. Apple did have a note for the original mac mini about using PC3200 memory in place of the spec'd PC2700 memory.
That said .... our Powerbooks are sensitive souls when it comes to memory. Memory which has met Apple's written specs has often not worked, because the Apple architecture uses bus slewing, which is tough on memory (a google search on 'mac memory bus slewing' will turn up the Apple developers documentation that talks about this).
If the memory is the right memory, your Powerbook should fire right up. Personally, I'd recommend Crucial memory ... they guarantee that their memory will work when chosen from the memory selector on their web site at http://www.crucial.com . -
Back then when I had the older update with iTunes i never had this problem with trying to put my mp3 files of music into my iTunes library. Now it doesn't want to be put into the library. Once I try to drag the music file to the iTunes library nothing happens, it just keeps showing a cancellation sign with my mouse. So how can I fix this?
Hi William.
The problem is probably that the index is corrupt and you need to completely re-create it rather than rebuilding individual mailboxes. I have no idea what the situation really is now after having tinkered with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/, though, so the following procedure may or may not work.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder. -
Can't put serveral PDF files into one document any more.
I used to able to scan several PDF files into one document onto my desktop. I no longer can. I have Windows7 OS and a HP Photosmart 6515 printer. PS. Just the other day I had someone remotely access my computer to fix a MagicJack (computer connected phone) issue and who knows what they might have done. Thank you anyone.
This question was solved.

Can I put my iMac HD into my Mac Pro?
I recently purchased a new 1 TB drive for my Late 2006 iMac, installed lion and transferred all my data from an older computer. I just recently was given a Mac Pro Early 2009 unit with only 640 GB in there. I'd like to use my new 1TB as it is compatible with the Mac Pro, and I was wondering if I could remove the 1 TB drive from the iMac and merely install into the Mac Pro as the primary drive with the OS? The goal being to not have to reinstall everything on a new drive in the Mac Pro, and then run a migration of over 400 GB. Would this work, what are my risks?
If this would work, I'd just wipe the 640 GB and put in the second slot and use for additional storage or backup.All SATA 3.5 in form-factor drives are compatible, and SATA 2.5 in drives can be used with an adapter for proper mounting.
The Mac Pro, with its multiple drive bays, can get a big performance boost by establishing a "Boot Drive". This is a drive with only System, Library, Applications, and the hidden unix files for paging/swap. User files are moved off to a data-only drive or drives, and only the Admin account used for actual administration (not daily use) is left on the boot drive for emergencies. You may want to think about transitioning to a Boot Drive setup in the future.
