Can I put the same songs on two different ipods?

My first ipod mini got stolen last week, and a new mini is on the way now. Most of my cds that I used before are unaccessible and I want to have all of the same songs on iPod #2 as I did on the first one. Is that possible? How? Thanks a lot. (I'm sort of new to this)
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Well assuming the songs are in your iTunes library, then you just connect the new iPod and the songs will be transferred automatically as this is the default setting.
It really is that easy!

Yes and no it really depends on what information you are putting on the devices.

  • How do i make the same song have two different genre

how do i make the same song have 2 different genre for 2 different playlist?

In my example, we will create a Smart Playlist that includes all songs in the genre Acid Jazz and one extra song that has the genre of Afro-beat. That extra song will be "Music For Gong Gong". To create your Smart Playlist, substitute the genre types and the song title (anything with <  > around it) for the ones you want.
In your iTunes Library, either click on the + symbol in the lower left corner of iTunes playlists, or click CTRL+ALT+N to create a New Smart Playlist. The following will appear (my orange numbering):
    1. Using the drop-down menus, change "Artist" to Genre, "contains" to is and in the text box (marked 1) type in the text <Acid Jazz> (remember to chose the genre you want, and with the exact spelling used for that genre in your library - don't type in the <  > obviously!)
    2. Click on the + symbol at the end of that line (marked 2), which creates an additional line
    3. In this new line, change "Artist" to Grouping, change "contains" to is and in the text box type in <Acid Jazz> (Notice that I have used the same name as the genre itself. You don''t have to, but it makes it easier to add those extra songs. You'll understand why in step 7.) You now have a box like this:
    4. Change the Match rule at the top (notice it has already changed in the two screenshots above) to any. This is a crucial step, do not forget it.
    5. Notice that I have also selected Match only ticked items. This is optional, but selecting it will exclude songs that have been unticked. If you use Sync only ticked songs and videos, this can be useful way of keeping the Playlist the same as the one on your device.
    6. Click the OK button. You now have the opportunity to name your Playlist. I have chosen <Genre is Acid Jazz +> so that it is obvious what it is.
So that's the Playlist created. As you can see, <Genre is Acid Jazz +> has 89 songs in it and I can assure you that's how many songs are in the Acid Jazz genre section. Now, all that remains is to add the additional song.
    7. Find your "two-genre" song and click File/Get Info/Info (or CTRL+I - that's an "eye") to bring up the edit song option. In the Grouping field, type in <Acid Jazz> (remember to use the same text you used in the Grouping box in step 3. This means you only have to type in the same genre name to the Grouping box,  to get it into that particular Playlist. I mentioned this in step 3).
Notice that we are not changing the Genre. Click the OK button.
Now look at the Playlist <Genre is Acid Jazz +> again.
Notice that is now has 90 songs and at number 60 is the <Music For Gong Gong>. Note that the genre for that song is still Afro-beat, so the song still appears in the genre Afro-beat as well.
To add any other song to this particular two-genre Playlist, simply find the song in your Library and type <Acid Jazz> into the Grouping box, as in step 7. It's that simple!
Here's an extra tip. Too many Playlists and having issues finding your way through them?
I have renamed the Playlist Genre is Acid Jazz + so that it is now named Acid Jazz Plus and I've dropped it into a Playlists Folder named GENRES (capitals makes it easy to find the folders on iDevices).
Notice that here in iTunes, Playlists are sorted in the following order:
Playlist Folders (and then the Smart Playlists and Regular Playlists inside it)
    Smart Playlists
    Regular Playlists
... but on my iPod Classic (for example), they are sorted in alphabetical order. So to find the Playlist Acid Jazz Plus, go into the Playlists menu and scroll down to G, go into GENRES, and in there will be Acid Jazz Plus, with all 90 songs!
I hope you will give this a try, you have nothing to lose but a little time. Let us (all) know how you get on with it. We'd like to know.

  • How can i use the same id on two different laptops?

When trying to use the same login on two different laptops so that i can connect my nook to either depending on which one is free, i get the error that the id is already in use on another computer?

The issue is embedded in the way the software works.  To comply with the
Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 2000, all software companies in this
business keep track of where their software is installed, making
information about the computer and ereaders part of an ID file.  So, your
user ID is embedded in the ID file of each computer, but each computer has
a different ID of its own that is also embedded in that file.  Adobe's
master server (yes, there is one that you connect to even if you didn't
know it) also has that information, and when you try to use an ID on one
that's embedded in the file of another, Adobe's server blows the whistle,
and as you can see, you can't do that....

  • Can i load two different itunes on the same computer for two different ipods?

Can I load two different itunes on my computer for two different ipods?  Or how can I get it so that when I click on itunes, only my songs come up and not my wifes?  And the same for her.

Yes.  The simplest way is to have separate Windows accounts for each user.  When either user runs iTunes, he/she will have a separate library with distinct content, playlists, etc., and can sync individual iDevices as needed.

  • Can you have the same song on 2 different albums ?

I would like to use the same track on 2 different albums.
For example, one track on the original album and the same track on my own compilation album.
One way would be to make two copies of the track and call them different names.
e.g. UseSomebody1.mp3 and UseSomebody2.mp3, then these two tracks can be added to the library.
But this seems a waste of space.
I have an existing compilation album with odds and sods of my own tracks. But I want to pick and choose a few tracks from other albums and add to my existing compilation album.
I know about playlists but this isnt the ideal solution either, because I have an existing compilation album already and I want the album to be in the main library (i.e. not have to go thru the playlist menu on the iPod).
I just wondered if there was a way of having 2 seperate tracks in iTunes that point to the same file.

    sky_rat wrote:
I made a copy of an mp3 file on an existing album and tried to add it as a new file, but it doesnt appear....
I made a copy of this mp3 file on my desktop and called it "Kids_MGMT.mp3"
I added the file to library but the second copy does not appear, even after a refresh and a search.
Find the original library entry and change something in the metadata, e.g. add an Album Artist even if you don't need it. Then go back to the renamed copy and move it into your iTunes folder at an appropriate location, right-click the file, and choose Open With > iTunes. It will immediately show as a separate library entry.

  • Can i have the same application in two different oc4j containers?

    Hi,
I have developed one J2EE application and still the updation is going on. So i wanted to to deploy the application in two different oc4j containers. so that one will be having the working version of my application and the users can use that application. I want to use the second container as my test application, in that i can modify and test. The deployment of my application in two different containers went fine. But when i try to access the web application with the context, it is serving from the latest deployment for my request.
    My question is :
    1) Can i use both applications with different Oracle HTTP server port numbers??
    2) All the HTTP requests are passed to the oc4j containers by AJP13 protocol through AJP port to the OC4J containers. where is the mapping between the OHS and AJP protocol defined ??? ie., the requests from this http port have to be transferred by AJP protocol through AJP port to this OC4J container ???
    3) Or i have to have two different installations of Oracle9iAS ???
Please help me to solve my issues...
    Robert D

Different ohs port numbers would not help as there is only 1
    $iashome/Apache/Apache/conf/mod_oc4j.conf
You can pick a different context_root name for your test app.

  • Can two people use the same computer with two different ipods?

I was just wondering if me and my mother can use the same computer with our ipods?

Glad you asked. Before you get rid of the old one move its iTunes Library to the new one:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
"Deauthorize" the old computer too. Go to the iTunes Store menu and select "Deauthorize This Computer..."
I hope you get a Mac this time

  • Is there a way to associate the same song with two different albums?

Here's what I would like to do if it's possible. I recently purchased Mothership, the Led Zeppelin compilation album. That album has about 4 songs from Led Zeppelin 4. I'm hoping I could purchase the remaining songs from Zeppelin 4, then somehow copy the 4 songs from Mothership over and associate them with Zeppelin 4 to complete the album, yet still keeping them as a part of the Mothership collection. I don't really want to re-purchase those 4 songs again. Is this do-able?

Hello - What I would do is this: (forgive me for being thorough..) And this would ony work with physical store-bought CDs:
    1) insert cd & wait for iTunes to open;
    2) then, close iTunes
    3) double-click on the cd icon, figure out which track(s) you want, then select them & option-drag to make a copy of them on the desktop.
    4) IF iTunes already "named" the songs, click on each song and change the name to something else (i.e. track 01 or whatever)
    5) drag this "nameless" track into iTunes and then drag the songs into the playlist where you want the duplicate of the song.
    6) now that the nameless song is in the new playlist, go ahead and give it its correct name, artist, album, etc.
I think this should work. Forgive me again for being overly simplistic. Hope it works.

  • How many times can I install the same song on a different PC

I had one PC where i kept all my iTunes songs. I also made a backup from all of these songs on a external hard disk. I had big problems with my PC and I had to reinstall Itunes and import all the songs again (from my backup on the external hard disk). When I want to play some songs I receive a message telling me I installed that song for the 5 th time on a different PC and that it will be the last time I can do that. How is this possible? I only installed it on 1 PC ????

If your system crashes or you reinstall your operating system without deauthorising iTunes first, even a single computer can use up your limit of 5 authorisations. If you've reached your limit of 5 you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go and start over again: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

  • Can I have the same library on two different computers

I have my iTunes library on a external drive linked to my work computer. Can I link it to my home computer too?

If it is only the media files that are on the external drive, with the library files in the default location of User's Music\iTunes then see Make a split library portable.

You can make a copy of an existing song, then change the album, artwork and track number details. You cannot make the same physical file show up in two different albums.

  • How can I have the same environment on two macs on is a macbook pro and the other a Mac mini

How can I have the same environment on two macs on is a macbook pro and the other a Mac mini ?

Forget trying to use iCloud for this - it won't do what you want.  iCloud syncs certain data like contacts and events, but it doesn't sync "environments" on computers.

  • How can I add the same song more than once?

how can I add the same song to my ipod shuffle more than once?

Thanks. I tested it, and found that I can create a bookmark in FolderA, and them manually copy it to FolderB, FolderC, and FolderD.
Once that is done, I tried the old method of "Bookmarks" --> "Bookmark This Page" and added it to FolderE. When I did that, it deleted the copy in FolderD but left the other three alone!
This is fine with me. I personally think this is a bug, because I don't think that Firefox should ever delete a bookmark without asking me (or at least, informing me). But now that I understand the algorithm, I can work around it. Thanks!

  • How to download the same song(track) with different keys? iTunes seems to think I have already downloaded the song and will not download the song in a different key of the Demo Track

How to download the same song(track) with different keys? iTunes seems to think I have already dowloaded the song and will not let me download the song in a different key or the Demo.

    Hello Jigz19,
It sounds like you are unable to play a couple of songs from your library becuase you get a message that the computer is unauthorized to play, but other content purchased that same day works without issue. I would verify that the affected songs were purchased with the same Apple ID first:
Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1920
    Open iTunes
Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
    Choose File > Get Info.
    Click the Summary tab.
The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
If so, then delete the songs:
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store

Then re download them with this article:

    All the best,
