Can I "re-synch" audio to video using iMovie?

I purchased a Pinnacle Video Transfer gadget to convert VHS tapes to DVD. I just converted a 4 cassette series using what I consider the exact same procedures for each cassette and 2 converted almost perfect, but for the other 2, the audio is completely out of synch with the video. Can I use iMovie to fix the files? Somehow I think it should be a simple procedure, but I can't figure it out.

make your 'video' (still, title, whatever) as long as your audio track

  • I can't start an audio or video in ichat 6 on Lion

    I chat used to work for me.  Now I can't start up audio or video chats.
    The error message I get is
    "iChat can’t start the audio chat."
    "Your computer is busy in another chat."
    I have tried the following
    restart ichat
    reinstall ichat
    remove ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iChat*
    I am using gtalk as my account.
    Any help would be awesome
    Nathan

    Hi,
    In Snow Leopard iChat and Face Time could be open at the same time and in fact use the camera (and or mic) at the same time.
    I am not sure this is possible in Lion so I would launch Face Time and check that it is Off in the Preferences.
    Although deleting all the com.apple.ichat  .plists is excessive it should have closed any Open Chat (or what it thought was open) when you restarted.  (Although you don't say you have restarted iChat since deleting them)
    However there is one setting that may have upset this.
    In System Preference > General Pane (Used to be the Appearance pane) is a check box to Cause any Open window on Quit to be reopened on any app launch.
    If any window is Minimised to the DOCK that is where it is put back.  (If it is trying to reconnect an audio or Video Chat this may be an Invite window)
    As iChat can do Video and Audio Chats Peer-to-Peer it is pointless deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist or the Jabber one or in fact the Yahoo one as once a chat is started you can log out of the relevant Buddy List (Make that Account Off Line).
    It is possible that this a a new style Message in Lion to Say "Your Camera/Mic is in use in another application"
    As Reinstalling (Hopefully iChat 6) and deleting all the .plist  and then restarting should have given you a clean slate, as it were, it is difficult to see what the issue could be or what to suggest next.

    If they were in the camera roll on your iOS device when it was last backed up, they would be included in the backup.  Restoring the entire backup should recover them.

  • Syncing External Audio with Video on iMovie

    If syncing external audio with video on imovie, once successfully syncing the 2 is it possible to permanantly merge them so that I can continue trimming and rearranging clips without having to continue to re-sync the audio and video after every change I make?

    In Final Cut Pro X, yes. In iMovie...no.
    The workaround in iMovie is to sync your external audio to the video clip. Mute the audio on the video clip so all that is left is the good audio. Then use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to QuickTime Movie and under Options choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
    Then save this clip in a place you can find it. Finally, import this new clip back into your event.

  • Archiving Digital Video Using iMovie

    Simple question. I just want to save digital video from my digital camera to an external hard drive for archival purposes. I want to be able to access the video in the future without being locked in to any specific application. When I "import" my video using iMovie 4 it saves the video in a "project" as a .mov file. I believe .mov is a proprietary Apple format. I'd rather save the files as MPEG 4 files. Make sense? But I don't see any "save as" function in iMovie 4, or iMovie 8 for that matter. Advice? J

    With proper storage tape will probably outlast any hard drive. It's cheap so you could make more than one back up.
    Magnetic tape has been used for nearly 80 years. Most of those originals still perform but finding the playback devices is more difficult.
    Your 150 GB drive will store about ten hours of video in its "source" (.dv) format.

  • Grabbing still shots from video using iMovie

    Is it possible to grab stills from the iPod videos using iMovie?

    I'm not familiar with that software, but I imagine it would be fine (depending on your needs).
    For most people, it doesn't really matter which software you use on your computer. They'll all do basically the same thing.
    You could also use Google's Picasa 3 software for PC. If you import and playback a video, you have an easy solution to pause, select a frame you like, and click a convenient "Take a Snapshot" button.
    If you don't even want to use third party software, you could cheat (again), and just use Alt+PrtSc to copy an active window into your clipboard, then open paint, paste the captured image, use select/crop to remove the window border, and save. It's a quick, cheesy way to make an image file of just about anything. If you want to reuse this video still in another video somewhere, this of course would not be a good solution.
    Go with Picasa (which is FREE), or probably your software as well.

  • How can I combine the audio and video files from youtube downloads when they don't automatically combine?

    I'm using YouTube Video and Audio Downloader. Sometimes the audio and video files combine automatically, sometimes they don't - remaining as separate " DASH - .m4a and DASH - .mp4 ". It used to be that when this would happen I could open up a "ffmpeg" window which would allow me to "manually" convert them to a combined .mp4 file. It was a "drag and drop" type of interface. For some reason I can no longer access that ffmpeg combining function. I tried clicking on ffmpeg.exe. I tried re-downloading ffmpeg several times, both from the Downloader options tab and from the ffmpeg website.
    Thanks for your help.

    Sounds like a question for the developer of the video download add-ons that you have installed.

  • Logic 8 Export Audio to Video using Pro Tools HD hardware

    Hello everyone,
    I am having problems with the "Export Audio to Video" Function in Logic 8. Logic will go through the export process just fine, but when I open the export elsewhere with logic closed there is no audio. The video plays fine. I have read that this function was broken in logic 7, and doesn't work with intel based macs. BUT, I am using logic 8 with a Power PC. One thing that might have an effect on this is we are not using the standard core audio driver. We are using our digidesign HD Hardware(Sync I/O, two 192 I/O's) for recording and playback. I set this in the audio prefs by choosing DAE as our audio driver. Im guessing this has something to do with the audio not bouncing out, or bouncing out to some weird unknown location and I cant find it. we have figured out a work around, but its time consuming and not so accurate. if anyone has any ideas please let me know!!!!!!
    thanks.......

    Well, I can't find it. I remember he said it was working fine under PT 7.3.1.
    I assume it would work under Core Audio using the Digi hardware, just not the DAE or DTDM features. If you're new to Logic then the Core Audio will be enough to get you up and running.
    Just from reading the manual the DTDM features don't seem to be any different than earlier versions. I was hoping for more surround support, but I guess I won't really know until I test it what is and is not possible. Currently I run ProTools on a MacPro and Logic on a G5 and link them with MTC, and I can always keep this approach if I find it's more flexible.

  • Problems with syncing audio to video using merge tool

    I ran into a new problem that I have not had.
    The project was shot on 35mm and transfered to 1080p 23.97 10bit uncompressed. I took the file in to FCP and through media manager maid a copy of it to ProRes 422 HQ 1080p.
    The Problem is when I broke the clips up for each scene and take (like I usually do) and set my IN on the clapper and my IN on the audio file for that take at the sound of the clap and go to merge clips on IN points. The clip merges but not at the points I told it to. The audio gets shifted down or up by a good few seconds.
    Why is this happening?
    When I take the footage with the same IN mark and put it on the time line and the Audio with he same IN mark and put it on the time line it matches up. But not when I merge clips. I cant think what Im doing wrong if anything since this is the first time I have had this issue.
    Thanks to all!

    I don't think FCE has a multi-cam function like FCP does ... so here's another way to do it (if it does have a multi-cam function, disregard this).
    • Place the clip you'll likely to use most on track V1 (along with the audio on A1, A2).
    • Place the other clip on V2 (audio on A3, A4).
    • Double click one of the clips to load it into the Viewer window.
    • Play the clip until you find a good sync point (either visually or audibly).
    • Place a marker at that point.
    • Double-click the other clip to load it into the Viewer and find the same point on that clip.
    • Place a marker at that point.
    • In the Timeline, line up the two clip markers - it will help to zoom in to make sure they're perfectly lined up.
    • Once you have the two clips in sync, double-click the upper clip to load it back into the Viewer.
    • Click on the Motion tab and use the Scale and Center controls to get a picture-in-picture effect.
    • Back in the Timeline, unlink the audio and video from both clips.
    • You can delete the audio clip that you don't want to use.
    • In the Timeline, as you're going through the footage, cut out the parts of the clip on V2 that you don't want using the Blade tool.
    • When you're done, select all clips remaining on V2, right-click on one and select "Remove Attributes" then choose Basic Motion (all clips will go back to full size and centered).
    • If you want to consolidate all of V2's clips with the clip on V1, select all of V2's clips, then holding down the Shift key, drag the clips down to V1.
    • At this point, you can use the Roll tool to tweak your edit points if needed.
    • Add transitions as desired.
    This will only work if both clips are continuous (camera did NOT start and stop during the take).

  • Synched Audio and Video Capture in JMF?

    I am in the planning stages of developing a speaker's corner for our university television station. Essentially, a button pressed by the user and a JSamp will send serial data to the computer(PC) that will execute the capture program. Before I proceed further, will I be able to capture both audio and video so that they will be in synch so that I can later bring both into a commercial video editing platform? Also, does the JMF support capture by firwire or USB only? Most of the forums seem to indicate that it is USB. Thanks, and any other advice would be appreciated.

  • Push audio and video using J2ME

    Hello, does anyone know how I can push audio and video in a wireless device by the use of J2ME? Thanks in advance, Natasha

    If I understand right, you're asking for two topics that are not supported by MIDP 1.0:
    First: Sound and video. Yet there's even no main support for the sound, some manufacturers provide some additional classes which are device-dependent, so you can realise simple melodies and sound effects. No support for video yet.
    Of course you can store video/audio data on a mobile by receiving the raw data and saving it in a RecordStore, but memory on a mobile is very small.
    Second: Push. MIDP 1.0 doesn't support it. Only the HTTP protocol is guaranteed. Some devices support datagram socket (e.g. Siemens) and even socket listening, but like the sound topic it is device-dependent.
    The only way of pushing audio/video seems to be MMS... So watch out for MIDP 2.0!

  • Transmitting audio and video using JMStudio

    1. Can any one give me the procedure to send audio and video from one system to another using JMStudio .. I am getting an exception like : "Unable to create Session Manager" .. (Note : I used the same Port address on both the systems)
    2. Also in one of the programs for RTP transmission i came across a statement like :
    URL l="rtp://123.12.123.1:5000/audio/1
    123.12.123.1 denotes IP Address to which the data is to be sent..
    5000 is the Port address..
    What does the part "audio/1" mean..
    Thanks in advance..

    Then one more doubt.. Cant we merge the audio and video and then send the merged media through RTP.. Yes! using 'Manager.createMergingDataSource(DataSource[])'
    If we can send then what is that I must use in place of '{color:#ff6600}audio{color}' in
    URL l=rtp://123.12.123.1:15000/audioI am sorry, I don't know...... actually I have never send Audio/Video using rtp-urls, rather I have always used RTPManager. But, yes on the receiver side these rtp urls come in handy and you just have to createPlayer using these rtp MediaLoactors, all locators which I gave in previous reply work for receiver. Perhaps, rtp urls are meant for receiving only, not for transmitting and that makes sense.
    For transmitting I think following code (which is severly stripped down version of AVTransmit2 and written hastily) can help you get started:
    import java.awt.BorderLayout;
    import java.net.InetAddress;
    import javax.media.*;
    import javax.media.control.MonitorControl;
    import javax.media.format.VideoFormat;

    import javax.media.rtp.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
