Can I read and search a PDF file on my IPAD

Can I read and search a PDF file on my IPAD??

Several apps will allow you to work with PDFs. iBooks will handle them, but there have been a few issues reported about using it for that purpose. My guess is it depends on the size and complexity of the file. Adobe has a reader in teh app store (free). Goodreader is an option, and provides functionality for searches.

  • I downloaded Adobe Reader and cannot open PDF files, can anyone tell me why? or what I need to do.

I am not able to open PDF files or documents.  Why?

Here is my assessment, Claudio.  I know you are revered among your peers and it's very obvious that you live on these forums.  You have undoubtedly helped a lot of people and you will be rewarded in your afterlife for your endeavors here but here's a reality check for both you and Pat:
What lesson did D.Call learn from you?  Likely the lesson was, don't post here or you'll be treated as an imbecile by some hotshot bitwhiz named Claudio Gonzalez.
Did you not see that D.Call said s/he was an inexperienced computer user… and was obviously asking for elementary level assistance?  You were blinded by your belief that your knowledge and expertise is being wasted on anyone who isn’t forthcoming to your expectations.  I merely pointed out that if you think it's such a waste of your time, why dwell?  You should have left Graffiti to work with D.Call and headed off to another thread.  Surely there were other posts requiring your extreme level of higher intelligence.
Think about this:  You don't like it when someone talks down to you as I have here, now do you?  No one does.  Right now as you read this my guess is you are fuming and likely trying to think of a way to smite me.  You can respond to this post in whatever tone or language you choose but I won't take offense.  I’ll be the bigger man… I promise I won't reply so you can have the last word.
When you respond, see if you can take it up a notch and maybe even admit you made a mistake with your corkscrew remark.  I don't think you would ever risk being so disrespectful to D.Call, and most certainly, not to me or anyone else if we were face-to-face.  If you worked in my company, you would be fired for disrespecting my customers.
By the way, do you and Pat have spell check ability?  If you do, you should use it.

  • How can I repair and open damaged PDF files?

I need to download every online issue of ASOS magazine, which are all PDF files, and I have already downloaded at least five to my USB stick, and they have all worked perfectly. However, there are five more issues that I have not downloaded, and I need to download them. To my frustration, every time that I download any of these files to the same USB stick, a box appears saying that the file cannot be open because it is damaged and cannot be repaired. I have followed your instructions and saved these files to my hard drive instead, but they are still damaged and do not open properly. Please tell me how I can open my files without Adobe Reader saying that they are damaged.
    Steps to reproduce the bug:
I download an online issue of ASOS magazine from ASOS.com or Publitas.com; the latter is the official website for bask issues of ASOS magazine.
    The file downloads as normal.
I open the file in Adobe Reader.
Result: A box appears saying that the file is damaged, and that Adobe Reader is trying to repair the file. Only a second later, another box appears, saying that the file cannot be repaired, thus not allowing me to view the file as normal.
The result that I want: No boxes appear saying that the file is damaged, and it opens as normal.

The download links of the problem PDF files are:
    http://epub02.publitas.com/ASOS/11/magazine.php
    http://epub02.publitas.com/ASOS/10/magazine.php
    http://epub02.publitas.com/ASOS/17/magazine.php?spread=88#/spreadview/
    http://epub02.publitas.com/ASOS/19/magazine.php?spread=90#/spreadview/0/
    http://epub02.publitas.com/ASOS/23/magazine.php?spread=88
The latest issue of the ASOS online magazine can always be downloaded at:
    http://www.asos.com/au/Women/Magazine/Womens-Magazine-Asos/Cat/pgehtml.aspx?cid=6200&WT.ac =Nav_Magazine
My OS is WIndows Vista with Service Pack 2. The browser that I use is Internet Explorer.
The way I download these files is quite simple:
I open any one of the webpages whose URLs I have listed.
I wait a few minutes for the software that allows the magazine to be read online to load fully. Publitas.com allows entire magazines to be viewed online, and also, among many other features, provides viewers with a search engine which allows them to search for certain words or phrases in the magazine.
Once the software has fully loaded, on the toolbar at the top of the webpage (in the case of ASOS.com, the toolbar is underneath the various toolbars and boxes found on www.asos.com) there is a button featuring the Adobe Reader logo; when you hover your mouse over the logo, it will say 'download PDF'. To download the PDF file, you first click on the logo.
The 'View Downloads- Windows Internet Explorer' window will open. The name of the PDF file, and the URL on which it was found, will both appear in the window, under the Name column. Under the Location column, it will say, 'Do you want to open or save this file?'. Under the Actions column, there will be two buttons, saying Open and Save. I click on the arrow on the save button and choose to save the PDF to my hard drive, in the Documents folder (which is currently the default folder for saving PDF files).
That is how I download a PDF.

  • How can I store and view a pdf file ?

I have an iphone 3GS 32Gb and want to store a pdf file on my phone so that I can view it later.
Email is the only way I have been able to view my pdf file, but I dont really want to do it this way.
On previous phones I could save a file on the phones memory card and then open the file in the necessary app.
This is something I know the iphone doesnt do, but I was wondering if there is a way around it or an app.

[File Magnet|http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/filemagnet-read-and-e-mail-your/id2847971 61?mt=8] is pretty good.
I did find one app (I cant remember the name, thought it was Air Share) and it said Apple had told them to change the app so that you cant transfer files over USB, only Wi-Fi.
I think that was [FileApp|http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/fileapp-previously-fileaid-document/id2 97804694?mt=8], (previously File Aid).
Apple dont like people being able to use their phone like this.... bloody control freaks.

  • Read and Edit a PDF File

    Dear Friends,
I would like to know if it is possible to read and edit the same pdf file using Java. ie my PDF file named "Sample.pdf" has contents like
    First Name = &F_NAME
    Last Name =&L_NAME
what I want is to parse the Sample.pdf file and look for &F_NAME and replace it with "Jacob" and &L_NAME and replace it with "Abraham" so that the contents within that pdf file look like
    First Name = Jacob
    Last Name =Abraham
Please let me know if it is possible to do like this. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • Which app to read and search a text file?

I have a text doc containing a little database.. I want to keep on my iPhone and read .. but I also need to search it. Does any App do this?

Well you can upload it somehow and then read it online. On your mac, go to any page and make it a bookmark. Then, press the little "book" icon by your bookmarks and then click on the bookmark you just made. Then change the web address of the bookmark you just saved to...
    javascript:void%28s%3Dprompt%28%27Find%20text%3A%27%2C%27%27%29%29%3Bs%3D%27%28% 27s+%27%29%27%3Bx%3Dnew%20RegExp%28s%2C%27gi%27%29%3Brn%3DMath.floor%28Math.random %28%29*100%29%3Brid%3D%27z%27%20+%20rn%3Bb%20%3D%20document.body.innerHTML%3Bb%3 Db.replace%28x%2C%27%3Cspan%20name%3D%27%20+%20rid%20+%20%27%20id%3D%27%20+%20ri d%20+%20%27%20style%3D%5C%27color%3A%23000%3Bbackground-color%3Ayellow%3B%20font -weight%3Abold%3B%5C%27%3E%241%3C/span%3E%27%29%3Bvoid%28document.body.innerHTML %3Db%29%3Balert%28%27Found%20%27%20+%20document.getElementsByName%28rid%29.lengt h%20%20%27%20matches.%27%29%3Bwindow.scrollTo%280%2Cdocument.getElementsByName%28rid %29%5B0%5D.offsetTop%29%3B
Then sync this bookmark to your iPhone. Finally, open the database page you uploaded to the web on your iphone and go to the bookmark you just saved. You should then be able to search the document. Tell me if it works.

  • Problem searching some PDF files in Acrobat Reader – Non-ASCII characters

Acrobat Reader cannot search some .pdf files.  I have put an example document up on Scribd here.
Any attempt to search for any word that can be clearly seen to be in the document fails with “No matches were found.”
This example document is NOT a scanned document – words and characters can be selected.
A hex display tool shows that the characters in a PDF document that can be successfully searched are in the ASCII/1252 range (A=0x41, etc).
Copying and pasting characters in the example document to a hex display tool shows that the characters in the document are not in the ASCII range.
    For example the letters A to Z in the example document are in the range ‘A’ = 0xDF (decimal 223), ‘B’ = 0xDE (decimal 222), through to ‘Z’ = 0xC6 (decimal 198).
However, characters in these non-ASCII ranges are displayed perfectly by Acrobat Reader, as can be see if the example document is opened.
Therefore, as Acrobat Reader knows what these characters are, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to say that it should be able to search for and find them.
Tests were performed using Acrobat Reader X v10.1.4.
Can anyone say what this problem is?

Hi Pat, thanks for your reply.
Your reference to the title of that page being 'HARNESSES' indicates that, when you view that document in Adobe Reader, you are seeing 'HARNESSES', not
"ØßÎÒÛÍÍÛÍ".  And that the remainder of the document is similarly being displayed in readable English language.
Yes as you say, you can search for 'ß' and get hits on 'A' (to use that as an example) in the example document.
But the need to form a word to be searched for into whatever code mapping this is using (for example having to enter "ØßÎÒÛÍÍ" for HARNESSES - I'm not even sure how that would be entered from a keyboard) doesn't seem to be very convenient.
Its clear the example document is using some code mapping other than ASCII / Windows-1252 (which has 'A' as 0x41).  But it is also clear that Adobe Reader knows what that mapping is, and knows to use it, as its displaying (for example) 'A' for the code 0xDF.
So I guess the question is - why isn't Adobe Reader's knowledge of this mapping being extended to its search input?

  • Store and Display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms

    Hi all,
How can i store and display doc/pdf files in the database using Forms 10g?.
    Arif

How to get up and running with WebUtil 1.06 included with Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 on a win32 platform
    Solution
Assuming a fresh "Complete" install of Oracle Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2,
here are steps to get a small test form running, using WebUtil 1.06.
Note: [OraHome] is used as an alias for your real oDS ORACLE_HOME.
Feel free to copy this note to a text editor, and do a global find/replace on
[OraHome] with your actual value (no trailing slash). Then it is easy to
copy/paste actual commands to be executed from the note copy.
    1) Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/jacob-project/jacob_18.zip
and extract to a temporary staging area. Do not attempt to use 1.7 or 1.9.
    2) Copy or move jacob.jar and jacob.dll
[JacobStage] is the folder where you extracted Jacob, and will end in ...\jacob_18
         cd [JacobStage]
         copy jacob.jar [OraHome]\forms\java\.
         copy jacob.dll [OraHome]\forms\webutil\.
The Jacob staging area is no longer needed, and may be deleted.
    3) Sign frmwebutil.jar and jacob.jar
      Open a DOS command prompt.
      Add [OraHome]\jdk\bin to the PATH:
         set PATH=[OraHome]\jdk\bin;%PATH%
Sign the files, and check the output for success:
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\frmwebutil.jar
         [OraHome]\forms\webutil\sign_webutil [OraHome]\forms\java\jacob.jar
    4) If you already have a schema in your RDBMS which contains the WebUtil stored code,
you may skip this step. Otherwise,
Create a schema to hold the WebUtil stored code, and privileges needed to
connect and create a stored package. Schema name "WEBUTIL" is recommended
for no reason other than consistency over the user base.
Open [OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql in a text editor, and delete or comment
out the EXIT statement, to be able to see whether the objects were created witout
      errors.
Start SQL*Plus as SYSTEM, and issue:
CREATE USER webutil IDENTIFIED BY [password]
         DEFAULT TABLESPACE users
         TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp;
         GRANT CONNECT, CREATE PROCEDURE, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO webutil;
         CONNECT webutil/[password]@[connectstring]
         @[OraHome]\forms\create_webutil_db.sql
-- Inspect SQL*Plus output for errors, and then
         CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM webutil_db FOR webutil.webutil_db;
      Reconnect as SYSTEM, and issue:
         grant execute on webutil_db to public;
    5) Modify [OraHome]\forms\server\default.env, and append [OraHome]\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar
      to the CLASSPATH entry.
    6) Start the OC4J instance
    7) Start Forms Builder and connect to a schema in the RDBMS used in step (4).
Open webutil.pll, do a "Compile ALL" (shift-Control-K), and generate to PLX (Control-T).
It is important to generate the PLX, to avoid the FRM-40039 discussed in
      Note 303682.1
If the PLX is not generated, the Webutil.pll library would have to be attached with
full path information to all forms wishing to use WebUtil. This is NOT recommended.
    8) Create a new FMB.
Open webutil.olb, and Subclass (not Copy) the Webutil object to the form.
There is no need to Subclass the WebutilConfig object.
Attach the Webutil.pll Library, and remove the path.
Add an ON-LOGON trigger with the code
             NULL;
to avoid having to connect to an RDBMS (optional).
Create a new button on a new canvas, with the code
             show_webutil_information (TRUE);
      in a WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger.
Compile the FMB to FMX, after doing a Compile-All (Shift-Control-K).
    9) Under Edit->Preferences->Runtime in Forms Builder, click on "Reset to Default" if
the "Application Server URL" is empty.
Then append "?config=webutil" at the end, so you end up with a URL of the form
          http://server:port/forms/frmservlet?config=webutil
    10) Run your form.sarah

One way is to get the GoodReader app. It has a built in web browser that allows you to web surf and download pdfs into GoodReader. You can read them in the GoodReader app or open them in other apps that can read pdfs.
