Can I read iBooks on a Windows computer?

My daughter has the iPhone 5s and an iPod.  She wants to purchase a book in iBooks but does not want to read it on such a small device.  Is it possible to read the book on a Windows 8 laptop, either through iTunes or with another program?

She does have a Kindle -- can iBooks be read on one?  She does not have the Fire -- just a regular Kindle.

Depends on the type of book.  an unprotected PDF Ebook or a a protected book for a reader that work on Windows yes.  (like A Kindle book in Kindle for Windows)
A book bought from iBooks with DRM protection, no.  It can only be read within the iBooks application on an iDevice or Mac computer.
    No iBooks for Windows.

in case, you meant not 'install' but really just download (e.g. using your office' fast internet-connection, final install at home Mac) = you can't do that either, due to iMovie is delivered exclusively via AppStore - which is accessible only via MacOS.

how can I read Ibooks books on my mac?

I work in a high tech company (not in IT) and as a sideline I fix close friends and family's PCs and Macs, usually remotely over Logmein.  The reason I switched to Macs over the past  four years is that most of my friends and family that have switched from PCs to Macs require little or no support.  So I am an Apple fan boy by my experiences and not just for the sake of being a fan.  It just makes practical sense.
Which leads me to the point.  I am also an Apple stock holder.  So I prefer to buy a book on the Apple Store rather than the Amazon store even though I realize my recent purchase of an iBook at $13.99 is of no consequence to Apple's bottom line.
In that light, I would of course like to be able to read my iBooks on my MacBook Air or the PCs and Macs I use at work.
    It just makes practical sense.

How to activate the transfer ?

    Hey Juergen119,
I would recommend syncing your photos from your computer to your iPad by using iTunes:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
First, if you want to set it up to work via iCloud, I would check and make sure My Photo Stream is set up correctly on your devices:
To use My Photo Stream you need an iCloud account, compatible devices, and up-to-date software:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.1 or later
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and iPhoto 9.2.2 or Aperture 3.2.3 or later
Apple TV (2nd generation) with Apple TV Software Update 5.0 or later
PC with Windows 7 or later and the iCloud Control Panel 2.1 or later for Windows
For complete iCloud setup instructions, visit How to set up iCloud.
Then, once it is set up, you can upload your photos to My Photo Stream by following these directions:
PC with iCloud Control Panel 2.0 or later: Open a Windows Explorer window and under Favorites select iCloud Photos if you are using iCloud Control Panel 3.0 (or Photo Stream if you are using 2.0 to 2.1.2). Open My Photo Stream. Click the "Add photos" button. Select the photos to import to My Photo Stream, then click Open.

  • Can I read ibook on windows

Can I read books that I purchased through iPad iBook on my Windows 7 laptop?

On every purchase page for Apple's iBookstore, it tells you in the Requirements section what devices can be used.  Windows PC's are never among them.
It is still possible to read some such books on a PC if they are in .epub format and do not have DRM to prevent piracy.  Books published by O'Reilly, for example, fall in that category, as do most free books.  You would just have to download and install a Windows epub reader app (iTunes does not read books).
To read books on a Windows PC, you should buy them from a store which provides an ereader for that platform, such as possibly Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Googlebooks, or Sony.

  • How Can I Read iBooks on my Laptop?

    On my Laptop, I can:
    a) Listen to songs I purchased, with iTunes
    b) Listen to podcasts I subscribe to, with iTunes
    c) Listen to Audio Books I purchased, with iTunes
    d) Watch Videos i purchased, with iTunes
WHY CAN"T I READ BOOKS I PURCHASED with iBooks, with iTunes?
Amazon's Kindle lets me read Kindle Books on my iPad, my iPhone, and my LAPTOP.
Shouldn't APPLE let me do the same?
Please, Apple, give me an iBook Reader for my laptop.

Agreed. But there's another even bigger problem:
I purchased the Steve Jobs biography from iTunes.
Then after starting it I received an offer of a free updated version.
I have made many notes and bookmarks throughout while reading and as a teacher these annotations assist me in selecting passages to read to my classes in computing.
I asked Apple Support if the new version will eliminate all these bookmarks and notes?
or was there a way for me to retain BOTH versions?
    herewith their reply:
    Dear David,
.......I understand that you would like to download the updated version of "Steve Jobs" but are concerned that your notes and annotations will be lost. I can certainly appreciate your concern and will be glad to help correct this issue.
Unfortunately, the notes and annotations are tied to each iBook. Deleting the iBook would cause you to lose those notes and annotations. In this situation, I recommend either downloading the updated version to a different device or not downloading it all together.
I apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I'll be more than happy to assist you with whatever you need. Thank you for being a valuable member of the Apple family, we truly appreciate your continued support.
    Sincerely,
iTunes Store/Mac App Store Customer Support
Valued books need longevity.  Sir Isaac Newton's legacy library was used to determine his interests via the annotations he made - even the dog eared folds he used to make page corners point to important/interesting bits on a page!  Then there's Fermat's Last theorem!!!
We need iBooks with more permanancy.  They need longevity, portability, quotability and lendability.

  • Can I read iBooks from Apple TV

I was just wondering, can I use iBooks through Apple Tv.  Thanks.

Unfortunately you are unable to directly read iBooks from Apple TV, but using Airplay Mirroring on iPhone, iTouch, or iPad, you can display the book you are reading on the Apple TV.
    Cheers,

  • HT5544 Can you read ibooks on mac pro laptop?

If I download the ibooks app to my mac pro laptop, and then purchase an ibook through itunes, can I read it from my mac pro laptop or do I need an iPad, iPod or iPhone?

    Hi rosemaryfromdelta,
No, you cannot read iBooks on a Mac. However, you can read Kindle books on a Mac. Download the free Kindle application, set up a Kindle account on Amazon, and purchase your e-books through the Kindle store on Amazon.
P.S. - if you do ever get an iPad, iPhone, or iPod, you can also download the Kindle app to them, and you will be able to read any books you have purchased on those devices as well....
    Hope that helps!
    Cheers,

Microsoft Office is really expensive sompared to pages and I would prefer to buy pages, but I don't have a Mac. Can I buy pages on a Windows PC?

A google search on 'windows word processor' will find several alternatives to MS Word, many of them free. Add a separate search for 'windows office suite' to locate the integrated productivity applications.
