Can I read iPad in sunlight?

I have a 2nd gen iPad.  It is nearly impossible to read a book on it while sitting outside, in sunlight.  I would consider an upgrade, newer iPad if reading would be significantly better. Recommendations?

It's an issue common to all backlit screens. To make a significant improvement would require a completely different screen technology such as the "digital ink" screens as are used in the non-Air Kindles which would then be less ideal when not viewed in bright light. There have been some attempts at "hybrid" screens which combine technologies from standard LCD screens, used in almost all tablet computers and the "digital ink" screens, but such efforts have to date not produced a usable product.
Regards.

can you read books on the ipad in direct sunlight ?

Not very easily no. If you can get a non-reflective screen cover it might be a bit better, but it probably still won't be as good as, for example, a Kindle device is.

can you read an ipad in the sun? DOes the anti glare screen protector make it easier?

I found this from the More like this box on the right.
I use the screen cover from this site http://www.powersupportusa.com/accessories/ipad-2/hd-anti-glare-film.html
works great, but I won't lie and say it's a 100% but it's the best I've found to combat the glare from direct sun.
I have a very difficult time using my iPad in bright sunlight with no anti glare screen protector on it. Here are some more that you can check out.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I have seen previous versions mentioned in a pop up message before on iCloud.com, but I'm not really sure at all how it would help, as I couldn't get it to do anything.
The best advice I have at this time is to back up your work on your iOS device by regularly saving it to iTunes, if anything goes wrong you can then either load it into the numbers app again on the device or recover it via iTunes on your computer.
My syncs are immediate, I never get chance to see if it works in the background, sorry.

  • After upgrading to ios 5 I can not read mail on my iPad, am I the only one?

After I have upgraded my iPad 2 to ios5 I get mail but can't read it. Is any anyone experiencing the same problem?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • After upgrading to ios 6.1, I experienced the following problem: I am no longer able to read the magazine I subscribed (The New Yorker) if I don't have access to internet. If the iPad is on FlightMode I can't read the magazine or the books in iBooks

I am having the same problem.  I have a 2nd generation ipad wi-fi only.  All was working great until I upgraded.  NONE of my downloaded magazines or rss-feeds are accessible.    For the magazines, their icons show up on the "shelves" but once you click on one it wont even take you to the "issues" i have downloaded.  it jumps back to the shelf page.

  • I updated my iPad to 7.0.6 but I find the new look very irritating.  In mail I can no longer swipe left on a message to erase it.  The font in calendar is so small I can't read my appointments.  I happen to like the yellow paper that was in notes.

You have to swipe from right to left to delete mail.
In the settings, accessibility you can make fonts bolder, that helps a bit.
THe yellow paper...sorry, no tweak for that unless you find a different notes app to use.

  • Is there a limit on the size of SDHC card that can be read with the iPad camera connectioin kit?

Is there a limit on the size of SDHC card that can be read with the iPad camera connection kit?

I've successfully connected 32 gig SDHC and CF cards so if there is an upper limit, it's at least 32 gig.
I know SDXC will not work.
With the cards that don't work, have they been formatted correctly? the camera connection kit will only read cards holding images. (Well, it'll only see the images) And those images have to have a file name of exactly 8 characters (DSC_2342 for example) and they  have to be in a folder named DCIM.
    Anything else it wont' read.
I put a photo on there called 'Christmas' and the connection kit won't see it. I put a photo on there in the DCIM folder named XMAS2342 it'll see that.
So it's possible that those cards weren't read because they weren't speaking the right language.

  • Why,  after a while, Itunes on my PC can't read anymore Ipad?

Why, still after around 15 months from the purcvhase, after a while, Itunes on my PC( win7) can't read anymore Ipad and the only way to make it work is reinstalling completely Itunes once again?
I tried the proceeding suggested on the help online( cleaning the previous installation deleting some folder and so on): no way.
    Thank you

The stores menu is at the very top Along with
File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, Window, Help
You want Store > Authorise this computer.
It is not inside the iTunes Store

  • My iPad is synced to My Phone with My Apple id, if an android connects instead with hos wi-fi to iPad can he read My messages????

I Am synced and have logged in with My Apple id to the iPad
but now a friend borrowed the iPad and is connecting with his wi fi from an android phone
    can he read My messages???

Yes if you gave him the passcode to get to the iPad home screen (or you don't have your iPad locked).   What wifi the iPad is connected to doesn't matter.

Is this a lost cause thanks to good old Digital Rights Management? My PC is already "authorized" according to iTunes.

Found this same thing on other discussions. Apparently you don't read DRM iBooks on anything but the iPad you purchased it with.

Can Adobe Reader on my iPad display PDFs with layers?

    Hi,
Currently, Acrobat DC mobile products (for iOS and Android) do not support any changes to layer visibility.  So you are not able to turn on or off layers in a PDF document using Acrobat DC for iOS.
Would you file a feature request?

Media is not included in a backup. You should be able to resync them your copy of them on your computer's iTunes. If you haven't got your a copy of them then if they are still in the store, then you can re-download apps via the Purchased tab in the App Store, ibooks via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app, and (depending upon what country that you are in) potentially music, films and tv shows via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.
For podcasts you can download the Podcasts app
