Can i recover photos moved from iphoto via finder?

first things first: i made a stupid mistake.
i wanted to share a lot of photos w/ friend via my google drive. i store my photos in iphoto. what i did was that i located the files in finder, selected them and moved the whole lot to my googledrive.
what i have now is a lot of jpg-files in my google drive, size of 33-34k - so i think i've got the thumbnails there.
when i go into iphoto, i only see the outlines of the rectangles which normally contain the thumbnails but not the thumbnails themselves. when i select a rectangle, double click on it, i get to a screen where i would normally get the big picture the thumbnail stands for. now i get a grey screen with an exclamation mark.
however, when i select the "edit" option, the image becomes visible. now there are two kinds of photos in the library - ones which have not been edited, they are as were taken by the camera. and another group which has been edited. unfortunately before i edit a pic, i first make a duplicate, so since all my edited pics are also duplicates, and i have no duplicates which are not edited, i can't tell if the error i am getting is due to the edit or to the duplication: but the unedited ones i am able to duplicate, i am able to send via email from iphoto, but the edited/duplicated ones i cannot.
do you people have any idea how i could secure my edited pics?
thank you very much.

If you are lucky, and only moved the thumbnails folder from your iPhoto library, use iPhoto's built-in Library First Aid Tools to rebuild the thumbnails.
Quit iPhoto.
Hold down the key combination ⌘⌥ firmly, and continue to hold it down, while double clicking the iPhoto icon to launch ipHoto in "First Aid" mode.
From the panel that appears, select "rebuild Thumbnails":
I hope, that will restore the thumbnails. You may want to follow this by "repair database".
Don't remove, rerame, or change anything inside an iPhoto database. That will corrupt your library for sure.

I updated iPhoto this morning. And now I can't email photos directly from iPhoto. Whats that all about?

Which iPhoto version did you update to?
If it is iPhoto 9.6 open iPhoto's preferences, go to the Accounts pane and delete the email account.
Now quit iPhoto, relaunch, and add the account back.
You may have to restart the Mac for this to have effect.
If you are using iPhoto as Mail client, you may want to switch to Mail as the email client in iPhoto's General preference pane.
This has been much more reliable in the past and less trouble.

  • Can't burn a CD from iPhoto to finder

I can't burn a CD from Iphoto to finder or from dropping the files into a folder on desktop ? The apple specialist couldn't do it either, what do I do?

Could you please describe what you - and the Apple person - did, and what happened.
The procedure I use is 1. with Finder active, click File and select New Burn folder. That produces this on my desktop.
    2. Next I drag and drop the files I want to burn to that folder.
    3. Then I select the folder, go back to File in the menu bar and select Burn... to disc.
After the burn is done I trash the Burn Folder (its contents are aliases).
Is that the procedure that did not work?

  • Can I recover photos lost from an iPhoto library that was on an external HD?

I had about 2,000 photos on my iPhoto library that was being stored on an external HD that is plugged into my AirPort Extreme base station 2TB.  Today, I imported another 550 photos from my iPhone to that library and now all that seems to be there is the latest iPhone import.  I can't find the old photos anywhere - they seem to have vanished.
I tried running iPhoto Library Manager's rebuild function but it only comes up with the 550 photos I imported today.

You can try a file recovery application like File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

  • Can you recover photos deleted by iPhoto?

I uploaded hundreds of holiday pics then deleted them from my camera now they have gone from iphoto does anyone know if i can recover them?

If your iPhone had been synced since the photos were avaialble in the Camera Roll and your iPhone was not synced again since the photos were deleted from the Camera Roll, you can restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup - or you can try since this is no guarantee. Photos are included with your iPhone's backup but if there is a problem in regards to this data with your iPhone's backup or with the backup in general which includes a significant amount of other data, the photos may not be restored with the backup.
Since you have synced your iPhone with iTunes since the photos were deleted from the Camera Roll, your iPhone's backup was updated to reflect the photos no longer being avaialble in the Camera Roll.
Photos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer ASAP as with any other digiital camera.

  • Can't sync photo albums from iPhoto to iPhone 3GS

Hi, I'm having no problems getting photos off my iphone and currently have an empty camera roll. The problem is, I can't get photo albums to sync from iTunes. I get an 'unknown error (-50) each time.
No problem with syncing a folder, but that's a pain as it's a much more tedious way of doing things.
All software us upto date in iTunes, iPhoto, iPhone and I'm running Leopard on a MacBook.
    Driving me mad..
    HELP!

Hi - similar problem: cannot sync iphoto events to my new iphone 4. Itunes goes halfway through the process of reformatting the photos, sometimes restarting this process, then tells me everything is synced....but no photos have been moved to my iphone.

  • Duplicate photos moved from iPhoto to different folders?

My Macbook Pro storage was really low and I wanted to delete some pictures from iPhoto.  Originally, I had many thousands of pictures and albums. When I pulled it up, only the last few film rolls were there.  All my other photos seemed to migrate to another folder.  Either "Originals" or"Modified".  There are also many multiples or duplicates.  I downloaded a free "Duplicate deleter" program, but my computer crashes when I try to run it for the whole folder.  Can I just drag the folder back into iPhoto? Why would all those pictures move without me prompting them?  Does this have anything to do with importing my iPhone 4 pictures?  Very frustrating. Thanx for any insight.

    Third (or maybe fourth) time
to start with you NEVER enter the iPhoto library for any reason and you NVER, NEVER, NEVER make any changes to the content or structure of the iPhoto library
That should be clear and very simple  --  It means that you never do this
Picture > iPhoto Library > Originals (folder) or (Modified)
Can you explain why after many (8+) years, I open up iPhoto like I have ten thousand times and 99% of my content is gone, yet still in a folder?
I have 3 or 4 times - you destroyed your library by deleting photos from within the iPhoto library
There are NO user servicable parts within the iPhoto library and
you NEVER enter the iPhoto library for any reason and you NVER, NEVER, NEVER make any changes to the content or structure of the iPhoto library
you only choice now is to restore a backup from before you used the finder to delete photos inside the iPhoto library or to start over from scratch with a new iPhoto library and import your photo into it
    and in the future
you NEVER enter the iPhoto library for any reason and you NVER, NEVER, NEVER make any changes to the content or structure of the iPhoto library
Don't open the iPhoto library - period - not for any reason unless specifically direct to by an experianced expert

  • Displaying Photo Titles for Photos Moved From iPhoto

I have added comments in the 'titles' area of a number of photos. When I import the photos to iMovie, the photo titles are lost.
Is there a way to maintain the photo titles, when photos are imported from iPhoto to iMovie.
    Thanks

I found the solution, but adding titles in iMovie, rather than bringing the titles from iPhoto.

  • How can I load photos back from iPhoto to my iPhone?

I had an iPhone 5s that had 64GB of storage.  I had a lot of music and photos on it.  So much so, that I maxed out the storage capacity.  My only solution was to remove something.  So I decided to offload some of my old photos.  I used iPhoto to move some of my older photos to my laptop in order to free up space on my iPhone.  Since then however, I have purchased an iPhone 6 (128GB) and storage is not as much of an issue.  My question is... How can I add my photos back to my iPhone in the same order that they were before I offloaded them to my laptop?  When I have tried to get the photos back on my iPhone, they are added as new photos with today's date and they do not sort correctly.

    Hello PMorrisJr,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you have imported photos from your previous iPhone into iPhoto, and now you would like to sync them back in the order they were taken to your new iPhone.  Regardless if you are syncing albums, events or the entire iPhoto Library, the photos do sync over with the same photo date that appears in iPhoto.

  • I can't email photo's from iPhoto, the error msg I get is "The email server didn't recognize your username/password combination".I tried different passwords but nothing works.

Everthing else seems to work fine and can send regualr emails but when I go into iPhoto and say "Share" click on email and try and send it errors.
I have tried several past and present passwords but it doesn't work.

in the iPhoto preferences ==> accounts delete your e-mail account and reenter it
    OR
IMHO the better solution is to set Apple mail as the email client in the iPhoto preferences

  • IPhoto 11 - when receiving photos sent from iPhoto 11- can't reply...

My friend sent me photos directly from her iPhoto 11. When I went to reply to her email with the photos, I hit reply, but I am unable to type anything in. When I went to click out of Mail, it froze and I had to force quit.
I called another friend who also uses iPhoto 11, and had her send photos from iPhoto 11, also, so I could see if it was just happening with one person. Turns out, the same thing happens.
I open the email with the photos that were sent to me directly from iPhoto 11, and, again, I am unable to reply, and then, my Mail program freezes and I have to force quit.
Is anyone else having this problem? Try sending yourself photos directly from iPhoto 11 and see what happens.
(FWIW, I have iPhoto '09 ). My friends don't do the forums so I figured I'd post and try to find out what's wrong with iPhoto 11 and if it's a known issue. (they are both using iMacs- Mountain Lion)
    Thanks!

No, it is not my email program. This has been tested out on other computers, as well. I spoke to a lot of folks who have iPhoto 11 and they said they have been having issues with people who can't reply to their emails ONLY when they send photos using iPhoto.
These same people sent me photos as attachments, sans use of iPhoto and no problem. They also tested it by sending photos via iphoto to other friends as well, and, those people also can not reply to them, either, be it on a Mac or a PC, yet, when the photos are inluded as attachments or drag and dropped in, the emails are able to be replied to.
Thanks, though, but there's nothing wrong my my email program.
FWIW, they also sent themselves photos via iPhoto and had the same problem. It's iPhoto 11.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.
