Can I redeem the $20 after purchasing Mountain Lion for my new Macbook Pro

Hey there, I purchased a Macbook Pro in late June 2012, reading the redeem page for Mountain Lion 2 weeks ago it stated to come back after making a purchase of Mountain Lion, so I purchased the update and now realised i could of downloaded it for free, is it possible to get a rebate from Apple, or did I just waste $20????

Apple most likely won't give 20 dollars of store credit....you can always call them but I doubt they will let you redeem...in the end they want your money..

Brace yourself - I've been waiting over 48 hours and Apple claims it will take up to 72 hours. After that, God only knows! Oh yeah, if you get your code there's a chance someone's already used it too!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you purchase OS X Mountain Lion, you can install it for free in all your Macs as many times as you want. The same applies to all the content you purchase in the App Store, Mac App Store, iTunes Store and iBookstore

You are talking to end users, not "Apple"
Go back to :Lion maybe until Moutain Lion has had more time to get optimized and ironed out.

  • Where can i download Os Lion for my new macbook pro

    Hi,
i have just purchased a new macbook pro but it has snow leopard installed. The genius`s said i can download lion for free from apple.. any body know the link for this. ??
    regards
    Keith

Of course, just going to the App Store will require that he buy it, and going to the Apple website does not provide anywhere for downloading Lion.  No offense, but you should avoid giving advice if you don't actually know if your advice works.
Keith, see the following page to get a code that will allow you to obtain Lion for free:

  • Downgrading OS X Yosemite to Mountain Lion on brand new Macbook Pro Retina

    Hi all...
    Some background...
I'm awaiting delivery of a new CTO 13" Macbook Pro Retina and have a question or two.
Obviously the new machine will ship with Yosemite, but I intend to downgrade to Mountain Lion. My main use for the new Notebook is audio, and a lot of DAW software and plugins are not stable on Yosemite yet. I have a Mac Pro 6 core 3.33 tower system that I only jumped from Lion to Mountain Lion on a few months back, as I find I get rock solid performance by staying one or two OS X releases behind with all the stuff I need to run. My Mountain Lion upgrade was done through the App Store.
My questions...  on the Macbook Pro (this is my first laptop ever), can I simply log into my Store account and download and run the installer for Mountain Lion from my purchase history? The machine will be brand new.. with no personal info or documents etc, so is there really any point doing a backup beforehand? Will a Yosemite machine let me run an installer for an older OS X?
If someone has experience doing the same, I'd greatly appreciate advice on what the best way to complete the downgrade would be.
    Cheers!

Question should be - why can't I purchase a mac direct from Apple with an operating system less than current?
Particularly if a business can afford additional devices but not the updates required to get software in line.
This is also an issue with windows computers - Small company owner needed a few more PC's for his businesses that had just completed an PC based system install that ran on XP -- they came with Vista or windows 7 (don't remember which) his businesses were large enough that he did return them and get XP PC's.     (Software was not compatible with other than XP)      Few years later - went with what used to be called "smart terminal" no PC's on the desktop - all info on a server.

iWeb doesn't sit in the dock after installing Mountain Lion? Why is that?

Assuming you updated the OS on a Mac that has iWeb installed you will find iWeb in the applications folder. See this page for how to open your website when using Mountain Lion...

  • Does OS Lion 10.7.5 support Airplay mirror of Apple TV 3? I can't find the option in Setting Display on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro.

Does OS Lion 10.7.5 support Airplay mirror of Apple TV 3? I can't find the option in Setting>Display on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro.
I've rebooted all 3 devices, still does not work. Both Apple TV and MBP are on the same wifi. And the Apple TV AirPlay option is on. Can someone help? Thank you.

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

Thanks to the $15 Beamer, AirPlay streaming is still possible on Macs  that do not support Airplay and mirroring.
Another solution is the Air Parrot.

  • While trying to instal Mountain Lion OS on my macbook pro, I got the error message that my HD was damaged and it reverted to my Lion OS. Why does this happen? I bought the OS online through the app store

While trying to instal Mountain Lion OS on my macbook pro, I got the error message that my HD was damaged and it reverted to my Lion OS. Why does this happen? I bought the OS online through the app store.

The Mountain Lion installer looks at your internal drive to make certain that it's error-free before continuing installation. You should have an application named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder now so you shouldn't have to download it again. Do this...
Boot to your Lion recovery partition by holding down both the Command and the R keys while booting. Open Disk Utility from the Recovery partition and select your hard drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it) and click on Verify Disk. If you come up with any errors, click on Repair Disk. At the end of the cycle you will get a message that the disk was successfully repaired or a message that the hard drive could not be repaired.
If you're able to repair the disk, just reboot as normal and open the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" and the installation will proceed. If Disk Utility was unable to repair the disk, you need to get to your local Apple Store as soon as possible so that they can see if the disk is salvageable or beyond repair.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • My wifi is very slow after installing mountain lion on my Mac book pro

My wifi is very very slow after installing mountain lion on my MacBook pro.
    What can I do?

Ha  ha, I misread that as "My wife is very slow after installing mountain lion on my Mac book pro"
BTW on my MBPro (late 2009 with max RAM) Mountain Lion runs very well with no slowing down.

  • Just installing a few updates from the Mac App Store for mountain lion on my 2010 MacBook Pro, during this it made a noise and then the screen and keyboard went off, like it is off. What happened, is it off...or should I just wait it out?

    What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

  • How can I sync the contacts in my phone with those on my MacBook Pro? I already have an iCloud account, and everything else (calendars, music, etc.I is already synched) but the contacts won't.

How can I sync the contacts in my phone with those on my MacBook Pro? I already have an iCloud account, and everything else (calendars, music, etc.I is already synched) but the contacts won't.

    Ok.
Open System Preferences, Apple Logo icon in the menu bar and then System Preferences or the Sys Pref iocon in the Dock and go to the Internet Accounts area and look at your iCloud account. It should list what is and isn't synced by a checkmark next to each item.
Also in the Contacts app click on Contacts in the menu bar and select Preferences then accounts and make sure your iCloud account is listed. You can also do that from the Internet Accounts area in System Preferences.

  • How can I have the same environment on two macs on is a macbook pro and the other a Mac mini

How can I have the same environment on two macs on is a macbook pro and the other a Mac mini ?

Forget trying to use iCloud for this - it won't do what you want.  iCloud syncs certain data like contacts and events, but it doesn't sync "environments" on computers.

I participated in getting the free download of Mountain Lion for new Mac owners. It took me three days to finally get a code to do it and when I tried downloading it, the estimated time was 74 days 17 hours. Now an error occurred. What do I do? I am very frustrated and just want the great software to download in a resonalbe time!

Take your Mac to a location with a fast, relaible Internet connection that will be all yours during the duration of the download.
If you want to complain, PLEASE call Apple and do so.
Internet only downloads of OS X is completely stupid, it assumes everyone has reliable Internet everywhere and /or no data caps.
