Can I reinstall free upgrade of Lion

I bought my Mid-2011 iMac a few weeks before Lion came out...so I was eligible for a free upgrade. Now, unfortunately, I am having problems with my iMac so I want to reinstall the OS. However, I only have the Snow Leopard disc to reinstall. Can I still upgrade to Lion for free? Would it be in my App Store as I already upgraded so I can just re-upgrade? Any clues on how this works?
Cheers!

Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • I have just bought my first mac and have been told that i can get a free upgrade to lion but it seems that this is only an option in the us and canada, not the uk. is this true?

i have just bought my first mac and have been told in pc world that i can get a free upgrade to lion, but it would appear that this is only for those in the u.s. and canada. is this true? also from reading the discussions it seems that lion is not a good thing. i am already regretting my decision to go to a mac.

I have found that both Linux and Mac (unix) are capable of reading "deep" folders while win 32 will have issues, your it people are clearly wrong.  I run a network with both win/mac. And as long as the win servers/pc's that have shares are set to allow apple file sharing in their folder properties.   And the macs are set to allow smb there should absolutely no trouble with you accessing anything across the platforms, heck, from a Mac to a win pc on some occasions you don't even need to include a "domain" name to log on to, and you can create aliases and make your own shortcuts etc... So you don't have to manually connect each time you boot up etc... But that's all personal preferences I suppose.
All I can tell you is that, I do it on a daily basis managing a small business. So your answer is yes you can.

  • Bought a New Mac Book Pro last week, can I get a free upgrade to Lion?

To cut a long story short, I bought a new Mac Book Pro Last week, it is only 6 days old now, it was nearly 2 grand and comes with Snow Leopard, today on their website I saw Lion OS Advertised as 'coming soon to a mac near you' or something. I was just wondering, as I've just spent nearly 2 grand on a Mac Book last week, would I be eligible for a free upgrade to Lion when it comes out?
I think you should be as when I bought it i was never informed there was a new OS coming out soon, does anyone know the answer? Or how much it may be to upgrade? as after spending £1899 I don't want to have to pay £100+ to upgrade a month later or so.
    Kind Regards,
    Chris

Lion won't be out until middle of next year, so you are not entitled to any upgrade. But you may be entitled to the iLife '11 software if it isn't already installed. Check the Apple website for any Up to Date offer.

The Mac OS X Lion Up-To-Date upgrade is available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011. Users must request their Up-To-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request.
Currently that's the only information available. I suspect more will be posted as we get closer to launch.

Can i get free upgrade version Mac OS 10.8.5

Are you wanting to upgrade TO 10.8.5 or FROM 10.8.5? If you have 10.8.5 on your Mac you can do the free upgrade to Yosemite which is 10.10.1 as long as your computer supports that version of OS X.
Start at this Apple site to determine if your MAC will run 10.10.1

  • Can't reinstall os x mountian lion get error code -4403F

can't reinstall os x mountian lion get error code -4403F on my Mac Book Pro 15"

This is occuring because your network router or ISP is blocking the connection of the OS X installer to Apple's servers. If you have more than one computer (including an ipad or iphone), then for the purposes of the recovery try disabling your router's firewall and other security measures, or setting your computer's IP address to be the "DMZ Host" if your router supports this feature. This should allow the system to connect to Apple's servers so you can reinstall, and afterwards you can re-enable these security features.
Otherwise you can try reinstalling when connected to another network, such as a fast public Wi-Fi hotspot.

Lizardcarter's instructions are correct, you can (and possibly should) consider a second external HD to create a bootable clone. Redundancy in backups is a very good thing because backup can fail too. A bootable clone is an external HD that has a mirror of your internal HD so if the internal HD does crash you can boot from the clone, something that cannot be done from TM. This means you will be down for minutes and can resume work until you have had the internal HD replaced. Never use an external HD for both TM and a bootable clone, each should have it's own EHD. The reason being is if the EHD crashes you have lost ALL of your backup and are dead, don't laugh it happens! To create a bootable clone get either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (both about $30) and you're pretty set. Many people on these forums (including myself) use that strategy and yes I have had a backup fail.

  • Can I get free upgrade if I bought Adobe product 2 days before the release of the new version?

Can I get free upgrade if I bought Adobe product 2 days before the release of the new version?

If you bought CS6, then there is no upgrade. CS6 is the last standalone version. whether or not you may be entitled to some CC discounts, if you want to go that route, is only something sales support can tell you. If they're feeling generous, they may give you one or two months completely free, but realyl, you have to contact them....

  • Free upgrade from Lion (Thumb drive) to Mountain Lion?

I bought a Lion USB thumb drive on 12 June, not realising ML announced. Does Apple offer a free upgrade in this situation, equivalent to those who purchased a new non-ML computer from 11 June onwards? I can't see this situation mentioned anywhere.

The Mountain Lion up to date program only applies to hardware purchases.  Unfortunately, I don't think there is anything you can do in your situation.

  • How can I reinstall JAVA on Mountain Lion?

The last Java Update screwed up Java on Mountain Lion. Thanks a lot, Apple. This is where blinking/flashing images etc etc start, and it also affects the three-finger word-look-up gesture. I compared my mac running Facebook in Safari with one in an AppleStore and the one in the shop renders the Java stuff flawlessly -- no blinking or flashing graphics, and the three-finger tap gesture works perfectly. Both macs were running the same version of Java, OS X and Safari.
If I turn off Javascript and Java (in Safari) I don't get the flashing images and three-finger-tap works.
So my question is (after reading similar threads of the same topic): IS there any one-click solution to this -- can I reinstall Java, or do I have to re-install Mountain Lion... JUST to get Java working again??!?
And per the above.. why ISN'T there a standalone Java re-installer for OS X? How difficult could it be??

I just found the solution, thanks to the "MORE LIKE THIS" links:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
That's where you can download the standalone installer!! I did it, ran it, and it works. Solved all the problems I've been having.
Thing is.... why is it hidden???
