Can i reinstall isight firmware?

When I try to use my standalone isight camera a message appears "Your camera is in use by another application" in the ichat camera window.
I've tested it in various firewire ports and different computers(G4 and IBooks) with different OS (10.4.9 and 10.3.9), always the same result.
When I turn it on, rotating the lens, the green light is always on.

Could it be a problem with isight's firmware, if so, how do I reinstall it?

Although your iSight Firmware version should have already been updated to 1.0.3, Software Update... on both computers is reporting that no updates are required. Moreover, the info you furnish above shows that 10.3.9 reports your iSight's Firmware version is 1.0.2 while 10.4.x reports version 1.0 for the same iSight.
(1) Based on that information, I think that your firmware updates may have been interrupted. Alternatively, this iSight may be damaged. In either case, I suggest you contact your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for professional help.
(2) If you want to continue to try to work this problem and are comfortable with UNIX or OS X, you can back up your Macs' hard drives or at least your Home folders now.
CAUTION: Do not neglect the backups. Moreover, be advised that manually moving, renaming, or deleting files outside your ~/Documents folder is generally a BAD idea in OS X unless you KNOW what you are doing, so be cautious if you decide to try finding and moving these files.
After you have backed up, look in your Finder > Go > Utilities folders to see whether they contain iSight Firmware Updaters.
Also look in your Macs' (not your home folders') Hard disk name > Library > Receipts folder and your Macs' (not your home folders') Hard disk name > Library > Packages folder to see if the iSight updaters are there.
Because Software Update... on both your Macs show that your software does NOT need to be updated, the updater is probably stored somewhere on your Mac. A manual search will be required. You will not likely be able to find this with Spotlight.
If you can find these updater items, temporarily move them to another location inside your Documents folder, and then restart your 10.3.9 Mac. Software Update... or the Firmware Download MAY now work to update your Firmware. If not, or if you damage your Mac's startup software beyond repair while attempting this fix, seek the help of an Apple-Authorized Service Provider.
(3) Let me again suggest that you consider having an Apple-Authorized Service Provider do this work unless you are knowledgeable of OS X.
If you do not have access to a local Service Technician, you may find Apple's International Technical Support Contact Information or web-based iSight Service Request worth considering.

    It's not good, because It may happen again and i don't want to go to nokia's service with the same problem every time(they can look at me strangely I'm sending ~2-3k sms and when I shutdown the phone(to change to another sim card) the phone can't update SMS memory and restarts... As I result - I now have this problem. I want know what sms limit is in this phone and i want to find out it

    I managed to connect with Nokia Recovery Software, phone was properly recognized, firmware was downloaded, but problem occurs at stage of installation (at very beginning 10% of progress). Nokia ROM driver is being seeked then it is alert on problem with installing it, 10% of progress info is not changing till alert on missing connection of phone appears. Fortunately nothing was changed. i sent my phone to a customer point. they also tried but failed. finally they told me, it's the problem of phn processor. but i didn't believe as i have seen others have same experience.
    btw, my phn firmware is 09.04. i tried to recover sofware as it shows an annoying alert "a prefered sim is needed to keep app online. continue?". what should i do? pls reply

  • Can't reinstall N95 software

    I'm having problems with Nokia Map Loader and Nokia Maps. I tried various things and got nowhere (even reformatting the memory card doesn't work), so I called support and they told me I need to reinstall the phone software. I downloaded Nokia software updater and when I run it, it just says "updating the software" for a few minutes, then a screen comes up saying "phone recovery" and tells me to take out the battery, put it back in, etc, then click retry. It just keeps doing this. I can't reinstall the firmware.
    I called support again, they told me to reinstall PC suite, which I have done, but it still does the same thing. They told me that if this is the case I will need to take the phone to a care centre to be reflashed with software.
    Before I have to go all the way to a care centre, has anyone else got any other ideas? The firmware version I have is 11.0.026 which it says is up to date.

    Going to a NCP(Nokia Care Point) is probably the best solution.
    But before you do, try this.

    This will reset your phone and hopefully wipe anything off that is causing your error.
    Then try connecting your phone back to the computer and try the maps again.
    If this fails, NCP it is im afraid.

  • Won't start-up, can't reinstall after latest update

    I was running the latest update that included a os x combined update and a firmware update. All was going well, and then the laptop restarted with the firmware update progress screen. The computer restarted abruptly, and never started up correctly since.
    Here's where I am now:
    The boot process is very slow and takes much longer then usual. Eventually my desktop background loads, along with the desktop icons. The menubar on top loads too. The dock does not load, and I can't open anything through the desktop icons. I can use quick-preview (pressing spacebar), but can't open any application. None of the dropdown lists work on the menu bar. Occasionally, the screen switched to black and blue and back to the usual desktop.
    Nothing works, opens, or can be accessed. Even the power button works, I need to shutdown with shift-control-option-power.
    I tried to reinstall osx, or at least access disk utilities to make some repairs.
    If I press option during the boot with the CD in, nothing happens, and I wind up the same position as described above.
    If I press C instead, I get a kernel panic during the boot process.
    I tried the CD on a different mac, and it worked fine.
    I'm stuck!!! Can't reinstall, can't fix, can't access!!!
    Any ideas or experiences with fixing this?

    What's the precise text of your message, Callum? There's a few different ones I can think of that mention reinstalling iTunes.

    I recently had a problem where my PC stopped recognizing that the player was connected. I had this problem once before and solved it by removing and reinstalling all of the player related software on my PC. Tried that again, but it didn't help. I tried connecting to another PC, still no response. I tried a different USB cable. No luck.
    I then guessed that perhaps the firmware on the player had been corrupted. Up to this point, my player continued to play just fine but I couldn't connect to my PC and manage the player. I then downloaded the firmware and very stupidly removed the operating system from my player as part of the process of trying to reinstall the firmware. Of course, the PC still doesn't recognize that the player is connected so I can't install the new firmware from the PC. Now, of course, my player won't play either.
    Any suggestions? I am frantic. Thanks.

    First make sure you have all the lastest versions of all the software (especially the driver as this is what the pc needs to recognise the player).
    Another thing to do is try plugging it into all the usb ports. I sometimes find certain devices only work when plugged into the port which was being used when it was installed.

    Greetings! I recently installed the latest firmware update for my JB3. Since then it has been behaving badly; crashing at times. Today, the volume started going up and down, all the way to 0, as if possessed by demons.
    Is there any way to roll back the firmware update? Where can I get a previous JB3 firmware? The only one available on www.nomadworld.com is .40.06.
    Any other suggestions about how to fix this problem?

    Well, I'm not quite sure if my problem is the same as yours but I can tell you that after upgrading to firmware .40.06p, I now have the following problem:
    -Occasionally, the volume will go all the way to the max or all the way down to 0.
    -When using the scroll wheel, it now jumps all over the place.
    I decided to format O/S and reinstall the firmware which actually made things slightly worse with the scroll wheel. Before I reinstalled the firmware, only downward scrolling was affected by the jumping effect. Now, both directions jump around which makes it absolutely frustrating when trying to create a playlist.
    Thankfully, I have purchased the wired FM / Voice recorder remote which allows me to scroll through songs semi-effecti'vely.
    If anyone has any suggestions on how to completely remove firmware and downgrade to a previous version, please let me know.

    iSight is not an actual application so you would have to restore OS X.

    I do not mean the entire ITunes folder but, rather, the contents of the ITunes folder prior to September 29th.  (90% of the media is missing, along with all playlists)  The media that remains says it was added on 9/29 although I know most of it was added many months or even years earlier. There are no playlists listed at all, before or after 9/29.  (I know for certain that I added non-iTunes purchased songs on 10/6 although I had not created playlists for them)
    I have my iTunes folder backed up on both an external drive as well as Time Machine.
    I run iTunes off of an ITunes folder on my computer rather than from the external, if that's what you mean about how I have it set up. 
    Is it OK to drag the entire iTunes folder from the external drive onto my laptop's drive and see if that fixes it?

  • Upgraded to snow leopard, now browsing SLOW can I reinstall?

    I wasn't having any real problems with Leopard, but when Chrome stopped updating flash for it, I decided what the heck, I'll upgrade (against my better judgement). 
    So, I ordered my Snow Leopard disk directly from apple.  Backed up my Mac with Carbonite. Then installed SL on my Mac.  At one point it hung up, but after I eventually decided to shut off the computer and restart it, everything appeared fine. I also ran all the updates so my safari is 5.1.7 and my SL is 10.6.8.

    Browsing has become horribly slow.  I'm always getting the beach ball, and it Chrome and Safari keep becoming nonresponsive.  I didn't realize I was supposed to do a REPAIR DISK BEFORE my upgrade.  I have run REPAIR DISK several times now. I heard that there were a handful of items that would repeatedly show up as needing to be repaired, even though they are actually ok, BUT I just ran a repair disk AGAIN and there must have been 150 line items to repair.  It said it would take 39 minutes. But it actually took about 15. 
    I realized that "rosetta" was not selected when I installed (but I don't run any windows programs anyway).  Also, once when I got hung up in Safari, I was in the Zynga gaming site and multiple windows started showing up telling me to run in 32 bit mode. I tried changing to 32 bit (even though it didn't seem to make sense because I'm not running anything that would require  32 bit) but it made no difference.  I've since returned it to 64.
    So I'm wondering, Can I REINSTALL Snow Leopard?  Since I've done a repair disk again, can I just stick the disk in and try to install like normal? Do I have to back anything off?  I've had my Mac for years, but NEVER had any problems with it, and never had to upgrade so this is new to me.  (I was used to Microsoft before, that caused me problems CONSTANTLY, especially needing to upgrade constantly.
    BTW, I don't have a LOT of different docs stored on my Mac, just a ton of pictures (which was my reason for needing to make sure it was all backed up).

    I've done multiple safari resets.  I've also repaired permissions multiple times.  So here's what I've done. I did another disk permission repair, then put the snow leopard disk back in and ran the install again.  It acted a little odd, for example in the middle of the install the computer shut down and started up again on its own.  I just left it.  Then, it seemed to be stuck on 1 minute left for a solid 20 minutes, but eventually I got messages that it finished. Then, after doing a repair again I noticed safari was reset back to 4.0, so I ran all the other upgrades. Did repairs between each. 
    I also noticed that Flash player wasn't upgraded to current, so I did that. 
    So safari wants to take a while to open now when I click it.  I usually get a beach ball.  Also happening with Chrome. 
    I play 2 games on Zynga, and have since discovered that I can't play one of them (rubyblast) anymore because it the brower (doesn't matter if its firefox, chrome or safari) lags. 
    Is there some way for me to see how much memory these games require, and if that could be my problem?  I honestly don't know much about Mac memory.  I don't have many applications installed except for what came iwth my computer 4 years ago.  I do have a HUGE number of pictures on my mac though (and since iphoto duplicates those pictures, I have nearly double). 
    Am I missing something?  I didn't want to upgrade from Leopard because my Mac ran just fine. I only did so because Chrome dropped support for it.  I like using chrome occasionally.
    If someone can help I'd appreciate it. I have 3 days left on a carbonite trial (which isn't enough time to restore my Mac if I need to) so I'd like to think I'm just missing a common thing.
