Can I remove files from "images removed from" dir?

I have some duplicate files on my iMac, including some large videos in a "images removed from xxxxxxx" directory. Can I safely delete these?

Yes, you can delete this additional "images removed from ...." vault, if you do not need this backup of older videos. It contains all photos/videos, that have been backed up in your vault, and have been removed, because they are no longer in your Aperture library. remove this vault only, if you do not want to keep this videos or have other backups of them.
See Frank Caggiano's answer here:  Re: Folder labeled "Images Removed from Aperture Vault #1"
But I am puzzled: Why are these vaults on your iMac? Are they on your system drive or on a second internal drive? Vaults are best kept on a drive different from the drive where the library is kept. Otherwise they will be of no use, if the drive should fail and needs to be restored.

How do I remove Canon " My Image Garden" from the desktop when turning on my computer ?  I have the icon but the program starts up and I have to delete it manually  from the desktop to clear my screen for other work...

Are you using a Windows or a Mac? What you're seeing (the backwards L shaped menu) is probably the Canon Quick Menu. If you have a Mac you can go into your applications, select Canon Utilities, then drag Canon Quick menu to the trash and empty trash can. On Windows you'd go to the control panel, select Programs and Features (or Uninstall Program/Add or Remove Program) and uninstall the Canon Quick Menu. Not required for all the normal functions of the printer. You can do the same thing for My Image Garden. Also not required.

Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

  • Can I transfer files to a machine from a machine w/a dead screen?

Question:Can I transfer files to a machine from a machine w/a dead screen?

If the MBP with the dead screen is otherwise functional, start it up in Target Disk Mode (Powering it up holding the T key/Firewire connecting the two MBPs).  If the other MBP sees the other MBP, you can click on the HDD icon and transfer files.

You have to be more descriptive. Partition what?
File sharing can be accomplished many ways,.

It is as simple as copying/saving from one computer/drive to another computer/drive.

  • Can't access files on my ipod from itunes

    Anyone you understand??
I can't anymore access my files on my ipod from itunes. I can see what is there, but it won't allow me to delete any files on my ipod.
At start up, it does the syncronicing, finish in itunes but the display on my ipod never go beyond "do not disconnect". It won't allow me to close/remove the ipod from itunes - error message - some files are in use, can't close down ipod.

if you sync iPod, you can NOT delete music, podcasts, TV shows or videos in the iPod itself. if you want to delete it from the iPod, either delete it from iTunes and at the next syncing, the file will disappear.
Sometimes you also simply have to click a second time on the "eject" button after getting the warning that "some files in use".

  • Mac OS 10 can't see files on HD coming from OS 9 and vice versa?

Hello, all!  Got a TiBook 1Ghz with a 255 GB HD which I've partitioned in half, one for Tiger/OS 9 and one for Leopard.  Problem:  Any file placed on Vol 2 in OSX is invisible in OS 9 and vice versa, so one writes over the other.  Vol 1 works fine.  Tried reformatting, disk repair, DiskWarrior 9 and 10, re-installing all the operating systems.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Hi, kennethfromtoronto & BGreg!  I do know that OS  9 is not supported by Leopard, however I'm not talking about running 9 in Classic.  This TiBook will run 9 by itself, but when I run OS 9 it is from Volume 1 which also has Tiger installed.  I can boot from Tiger or from OS 9 from Volume 1 and they both run just fine.
The problem is that when do I boot from OS 9, it can't see the files on Volume 2 that were placed there under OS X Tiger.  Conversely, when I run Tiger, the files I put on Vol 2 while running OS 9 are not visible.  It's like I'm running a parallel universe.  Unfortunately, this allows one system to overwrite whatever was put on the volume from the other system, and vice versa, with the net effect that I don't dare run OS 9 for fear of overwriting data on Volume 2.
Also when I do run Leopard from the second volume, it also cannot see any files on Volume 2 that were put there under OS 9.
Note that with Volume 1 there is no visibility problem, no matter which of the three systems is running.  It happens with the second volume, whether it has an operating system installed on it or not.
Usually I am good at figuring this stuff out, but you see how confusing this is...  My thinking is there might be a bug in the Apple formatting software?  I used the Disk Utility from my external hard drive which runs Leopard.
Makes a good puzzle to solve, anyway...  Thanks for the help!

  • SMB-problem: can see/manage files, but cannot open from Windows 8.1

I have some files shares on a  Mavericks server (clean install, including OSX Server). I can connect and see the shared files from my Windows clients (both 7 and 8.1). I can even create files, rename them, etc. From Windows 7 i can also open and edit them. So far, so good!
From Windows 8.1 however, opening does not work: simple text-files and pdf's don't open at all (server cannot execute instruction/file already open), office documents can only be opened in read-only mode.
In the System log (on OSX Server) are a lot of lines like: smbd[714]: File system does not support 0x0 time attributes (or does not support 0x400000, file attrs).
Using Windows Power Shell, I figured out that there is a SMB2.1 connection between Windows and OS X, which seems
to be correct. It appears that OS X judges that Windows is using one or more wrong parameters in an SMB-system call.
I had lots of SMB-problems using Mountain Lion (Snow Leopard server was fine). I don't want to force my Windows machine to use SMB1 (for all shares) using the commands found in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696547 (I didn't try yet).
    Any help would be appreciated.

So I have the exact same issues. I actually called Microsoft Support and they tried a bunch of different things. They even tried disabling SMB 2 and 3 on my Windows 8.1, but then I was unable to connect to my OS X 10.9.1 Server share point at all anymore!
Here is what I found out. When I start up from my 10.6.8 Server backup on my Macmini Server, and then mapped the network drive on letter G on Windows 8.1 Pro client machine to that very same share point -  worked like a charm. I can read , write and such all fines on that share. All is well. Leaving the Windows 8.1 client alone, on the macmini server I selected the upgraded 10.9.1 Server volume and restarted the Macmini Server. After restart, guess what, I was able to perfectly access the files from Windows 8.1 on the OS X share point which of course was still mapped as drive G on 8.1 from earlier.
Now here comes the kicker. I went ahead and restarted Windows 8.1 and then everything went haywire! I opened the Windows 8.1 desktop and brought up My Computer. I saw that the mapped drive G is no longer connected (red X). I went ahead and double clicked it and then Windows Explorer simply hug itself and wouldn't come back. I had to force quit explorer and ended up ultimately restarting Windows. After restart I went ahead and disconnected the mapped network drive (G), and then re-mapped it. I authenticated with the very same username and password as before. This time I am able to see all the files once again, but can't open or work with any of them. It is super jinxed. In my opinion there is a severe bug in Apples SMB 2 or smbx or whatever they call it. Why couldn't thy just leave it alone and pay a licensing fee and use Samba? It's just so stupid!!!!
Apple, you must fix this problem. I will tell the server tech that I have been working with the very same thing. They should have never release 10.9. It was premature and not ready for prime time. It's good to know that there is a work around however. It is super teadious, and spastic, but hey, at least I get it to work. Either it has something to do with authentication, or the way OS X 10.9 responds when mapping a network drive on windows 8.1 pro? No clue.
Apple does not pay me to Q&A their software. This stuff should simply work! I am ****** off and have wasted now over 3 weeks of my precious time banging my head against the wall with Apple stuff.
Come one guys, get your stuff straightened out.  thanks.

  • Can't share files on a removable hard drive when using Airport Extreme

I connected a removable hard drive to the USB port on the Airport Extreme. I can see the hard drive under Disks in Airport Utility, but cannot view or share the files.
Note: I can share the files when I am connected directly to my MacBook Pro USB port.
    Please help.

    I have enabled file sharing.
I tried going to afp://10.0.1.1 but get a connection error. I may be doing it wrong. How do I get the proper IP to use?

  • Can't see files/folders on server from windows

i'm not sure if this is related to the ACL issue (not being properly honored in Samba on Leopard), but i'll explain my problem and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction
i've set up file sharing with my server on several Macs and a couple of PCs without a problem, but on one PC, when i connect to the server, i can't see any folders at all on the server in the Explorer window. i also can't move files to the server as it tells me i don't have permissions. i am certain this is set up the same as the other PCs and ensured that the Windows user has file sharing enabled on my server.
please note that i'm fairly new to setting up a server so not too much jargon please!
    cheers
    ric

The problem may be how the CD was formatted. Macs support ISO-9660 better than any other crossplatform format.
Recently Software Architects has improved UDF support on the Mac, though I have yet to test it to see how true their claim is:

  • How do I remove "read-only" from images transferred from a PC so that I can add keywords?

I switched to a Mac from a PC a year ago and have been using PSE 9 + Organizer with no problems.  I transferred all my images from the PC at that time.  Now, I want to transition to using Bridge and have been assigning keywords to the newer photos added after I started using the Mac.  I am unable to assign keywords to the earlier photos because Bridge says they are read-only.  I checked the Apple Get Info on the folders and they are read and write.  Any ideas?

the Sharing and Permissions box on the bottom shows I have "custom" and "read & write" access for both pre- and post 9/2010 folders.  All others (nobody, staff, everyone) have read only.  Of course there is actually only me.
    Anne,
It seems related to your OSX. I think you have created a new user account without adding a name (hence Nobody) but I'm a bit guessing in this department.
The default user account folders like pictures and movies have the ability to set to 'custom'. With you as only user and administrator there should preferably only be one user account visible.  By default a newly created folder should show 3 options for sharing and permission. User (your name of the user account) Read and Write
    Staff: read only
    Everyone: Read only.
I have tried deleting "nobody" and "staff" and changing Annie to read and write - all kinds of combinations.
You can only edit users accounts in the system preferences / Accounts. In here is the option for you as administrator to delete and create users accounts. Here is where it is getting a bit difficult because we can't see your set up for the OSX. But if you have to change 'Annie' to read and write and assuming your user account name is Annie it should already have been on read and write. If you are logged in as 'nobody' this should have shown read and write to have access to change metadata.
So you first have to study a bit about user accounts on a Mac and see if you have a correct install. It is not very difficult and you will gain profit from this knowledge.
try the Apple.com support site, for a start here is a link to an article from the Apple Knowledge Base (kb) article about user accounts:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3309
Some images have been moved from the original folders so that could be a problem.
Basically you should not have any problem with moving files to whatever folder you want or create on your user account (or to external Disk etc.)
For a start you could create a new main folder in your user account Home folder and call this test or whatever you like except an already existing name. Of course also check if you have read and write permissions for it...
Open Bridge, use the folder panel to select a folder with the problem files. Now scroll through the folder panel and click on the triangle in front of your home folder. This will open the list with nested folders while Bridge content window still keeps its focus on the problem files you first selected. Select a bunch of the problem files from the content panel and use drag and drop to move the files to the newly created folder. Just move the mouse on the folder name and release the files.
If you hold the option (alt) key while dragging there will appear a + - sign and the files are copied to their new location, just use what you think is best for you.
After this action has finished click with your mouse on the newly created folder name in the folder panel and now the files should show in the content panel (if correct also already cached). Check if you are able to change the metadata now.
Most have tags from current and previous Photoshop Elements versions.
That should not be a problem, some info will be readable by Bridge, others not. Some Bridge version even had their own Bridge versions.

  • How to remove file path location listings from photos and objects in Acrobat Pro 9.0 PDF?

After converting a windows-based Powerpoint 2007 presentation to an Acrobat Pro 9.0 PDF, the file path location of all photos and objects are shown in a dialogue box when the cursor is moved over the image as seen in this screenshot below. How can I stop this from happening and remove this feature on my pdf documents?

I saw that referenced on a forum, but it does not seem to address the issue I am having.
As per Adobe Acrobat X Standard * What’s new, the equivalent to the "Tools > Protection > Remove Hidden Information" utility found in Acrobat X Standard is the same as the "Document > Examine Document" feature in Acrobat Pro 9.0. Those tools seem to cover meta data, book marks, hidden text, and deleted or cropped content, but not the file path listings that appear on images and objects converted from Powerpoint presentations and other MS Office programs.
I have reviewed the settings used while creating a pdf, and have also tried the “Advanced > Preflight tool”, but could not find anything to apply to the issue at hand.
Thus, this issue has not been resolved, but seems like it should be an easy fix that anyone who publishes pdf documents would want to use to publish clean, professional documents without anyone seeing the file path location of every object and image shown in the document on their hard drive.

  • Remove file path and title from PDF? URGENT

I'm creating a PDF from multiple HTML files. The HTML document title appears at the top of the PDF page and the path/filename appears at the bottom of the PDF page. How do I remove those?
I'm working from someone else's PC. When I generate PDFs from other HTML docs on my PC, the title and file path do not appear, so I figured that there must be a setting that I used once and forgot. The help has not helped, not has searching the knowledgebase. I'm using Acrobat 8 on WinXP Pro.
    Thanks!

But I'm not using the Create from Web Page option. I'm using Create from Multiple Files. I'm combining 20 files from different folders.

  • How to remove noise on images acquire from Digital 8 VCR to PCI-1409 frame grabber ?

I have some constant noise in the form of a discontinuous white horizontal line running accross the top of images which were grabbed from a digital 8 video signal. I have tried all the settings in MAX to remove these and have check the integrity of my connections, but to no avail ?

    Kyle,
I found that adjusting the acqu window did the trick.
It seems that all the video i have on Digital 8 tapes gives me the same problem. When i use the camera directly to the frame grabber there is no problem.
In due course i'll try another camera with the Dig 8 VCR and compare these output picture quality.
    Thanks for the advice,
    Fraser
