Can I remove my scratch directory?

I just got a big external drive (2TB). Looking around to cleanup and consolidate my other drives (external and internal) I found a folder on my internal drive named "FCP Scratch". I also found one on one of my other external drives named "FinalCut Scratch". What I want to know is, can I remove these and create a new scratch on the 2TB drive instead? If I remove these directories will this cause me any trouble? I haven't used FCE in over a year. If I have a project that I haven't completed yet, will removing these folders mess up these projects. Can I open the projects and point to a new scratch location? Will it move the old information, or is this just left over junk?
Thanks

You do not need to save the entire scratch directory.
What you need to save is your _FCE project file_ and any/all _source media files_ associated with it (video clips, audio files, photos, etc). There will be one FCE project file for each of your projects, normally found in your +Final Cut Express Documents+ folder.
Your captured clips are normally stored in the +Final Cut Express Documents/Capture Scratch folder.+ Audio & stills are wherever you saved them on your hard drive.
It's also a good idea to save at least the most recent 2-3 project backup files that are in your +Final Cut Express Documents/Autosave Vault+ folder.
There is no need to save anything in the render files, waveform or thumbnail cache folders.
In your case, change your FCE Scratch Disk location (in FCE) to the new drive. Then copy the appropriate files (project files + media) from your other two scratch folders into the corresponding folders on the new drive. (But DO NOT copy anything in the +render files, waveform cache or thumbnail cache+ folders).
Important - after you have copied all to your new drive, remove the files/folders from your old drives. (I would +back them up+ first (just for safety) and then delete them - make sure to empty the trash, too.) After doing this, when you open the project the next time you will be prompted to reconnect media - just follow the prompts and point to the correct folders on your new drive and things should be fine (as long as you copied the necessary projects & media files to the new drive)

  • How can I remove automatically scratches preserving the other areas of the photo?

I scanned negatives.  Most of the scanned images show scratches.
For a given photo, I can easily remove manually all the very small scratches using Filter>Noise>Dust and Scratches>Radius = 1 and Threshold = 0 (Step 1). Then I can easily remove the remaining bigger scratches with the Spot Healing Brush Tool (Step 2).  The only issue is that I have 13 000 photos to fix, and I don't have the time to correct them manually one at a time.
I have automated Step 1.  How can I automate Step 2?
How can I automate Photoshop to scan a photo for scratches and when it find one apply a Spot Healing Brush Tool just on that spot with the required pen size?
Any other suggestions are welcome, as long as the quality of the picture is preserved and that the processing is automated.
    Please see pictures attached.
This could save me days of work.  Thankyou.
    Environment Information:
    ·  I am running Photoshop 12.1 *64 bit
    ·  Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    ·  Amount of installed RAM: 6GB
    ·       Scanner:  Canon CanoScan 8800F
    ·  Amount of free disk space:

                G:\ - Data disk - Total size:1.81 TB showing 437GB free
    ·  Make/Model of Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

Removing the bigger scratches cannot be automated.
Please do not be angry now - I don't want to offend you:
It is not reasonable to retouch all the 13000 pictures just now and one after another.
Not all the pics are of the same inestimable value and you never will need all of them at once for web galleries, a photo show or print.
And your digital photo frame is patient and is as happy with 25 pics as with 2500.
Therefore let the pictures sleep peacefully on your hard drive. It's good that you have digitized them and it's enough.
Someday you will need - say - 40 pictures for a gallery on your website, another day you want to make a gift of 3 pictures to a friend.
Then the day is come to retouch exactly these 40 or 3 pictures, individually.

  • Can I remove 'Capture Scratch'?

    Hello everyone,
My Intel iMac 20" is having a lot of problems (used Monolingual - killed Rosetta; can't use Cmd+W in the Finder, Final Cut Studio apps not opening anymore (some Prokit.framework architecture problem)) and want to backup all files to my external HD and then do a clean install, but I seem to be having just too little space on my external HD.
My question is, can I remove the files in ~/Documents/Final Cut Express/Capture Scratch/?
    Thanks.

Removing the capture scratch contents will remove all your captured media. If you don't mind that, go right ahead. I'd copy it all to a firewire drive. It OUGHT to be on a different drive than your system drive anyway.

  • How can I remove fine scratches off the I Pad Retina Display ?

    Dear Community,
I would appreciate to receive your experiences and tipps how to remove fine scratches off the  I pad retina display without harming its surface ! Thx

Apple Stores sell a good screen cleaner which I would recommend for cleaning screens - it works well and doesn't do any damage.  This might clean away a lot of what you see as fine scratches.
Other than this, I would stay away from anything else as you may well do a lot more harm than good.

  • IPod video... what can safely remove surface scratches?

Ok, I know this is a really stupid question, but I just paid $400.00 for a 60 gig iPod video and the slipcover they gave me w/ the iPod has really scratched up my iPod. What can I use on the iPod that will safely remove the surface scratches?
Another thing... what does the "i" in iPod mean? It's driving me nuts.
    Thanks for the help.

the slipcover they gave me w/ the iPod has really
    scratched up my iPod.
Actually, it didn't. The slip case is as smooth as a newborn baby's face. What happened to you will happen with any case or even with your fingers.
Dirt can get between anything and your ipod and cause scratches. When you pull your iPod in and out of the slip case, don't grab it from the back and front. Hold it from the metal sides always. The same goes for any case at all.
Even when you handle it with your hands, don't rub it hard because any dirt on your hands will scratch it.
None of this is even unique to the iPod. I holds true for anything shiny, including Sony's Walkman and my silver cigarette case!

  • Removing a scratch from the iPad back with Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0

Within three weeks of getting my new Ipad and with extreme caution of use, somehow I managed to create a 1" long faint scratch on the back of the unit.  These kinds of scratches are unbelievably easy to make since the back of the unit is only anodized aluminum, a relatively soft metal with a coating that accentuates any scratch.   So I'd recommend anyone who cares about such scratches either put on a plastic coating like ArmorSuit MilitaryShield or get a case over the unit immediately after taking it out of the box (oh, and, by the way, some cases will themselves scratch the unit as will Apple's Smart Cover around the hinges - even if Apple doesn't admit it).
I tried to reduce the faint 1" long scratch's visibility using Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0.  I rubbed the polish with a microfiber towel across the scratch (i.e. perpendicular swipes) for about 15 or 20 minutes applying between moderate to fairly high pressure with my finger.   The scratch was not removed, and that's expected because you really can't remove a scratch unless you reduce the material to the depth of the scratch or fill it with something; neither of which this product does.  Indeed if Meguiar's did reduce the metal surface that much, the anodized aluminum finish would probably be removed and the case appearance completely ruined.  However, Meguiar's reduced the scratch visibility by about 70% to my eye.  I did take pictures to try to prove this, but they are not helpful because the camera's view of the scratch is almost entirely dependent on the angle of it with respect to the flash, so my camera simply cannot capture the real visibility of the scratch.
So did Meguiar's alter the color or nature of the anodized aluminum around the scratch?  Yes, it did, but the effect is so slight that it would hardly be noticed unless you look at the surface at exactly the right angle with respect to the light.  It basically slightly increased the luster where I rubbed. But the small increase in luster is nowhere near the increase a plastic coating results in, so for me it doesn't matter since I plan on applying the ArmourSuit (again).  Other than that there was no real effect on the surrounding surface.
Summary: With a little elbow grease, Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 reduced my new iPad scratch's visibility by approximately 70% and did not damage to the unit in any way.  I recommend it for iPad scratch reduction if you made the mistake of not protecting your iPad, have a scratch, and are obsessive enough to be motivated to reduce it.  Otherwise, I'd just save you money.  Incidentally, Apple has purchased Liquidmetal technology around the launch of the new iPad.  Liquidmetal is a patented amorphous metal alloy that promises the workability required for case molding yet is as strong or stronger than steel, so I suspect Apple's notoriously easy-to-scratch casings are soon going to be a thing of the past.

I decided to do one more treatment to the scratch because I was bored and it sounded like fun.  I bought a Sharpie silver paint pen with extra fine point ( see http://www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Marker-Extra-fine-Silver-Single/dp/B003JJMW8C ).  I think I paid like $2.50 for this exact pen at Michaels after a 40% rebate (they have them all the time; just print the online coupons).
The marker line was fine but, of course, far wider than the scratch and the color was much darker than the silver when wet.  I let it dry for about a minute (it lightened as it dried to match the unit better), then I took one more drop of the Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0's and rubbed it gently with my finger a bit to remove the paint that was above the scratch, leaving the paint behind only in the crack (do NOT rub this for long or else it can remove all the paint)
The result is that the original scratch went from the 30% of the original scratch noticeably (after the Meguiar's treatment) to about 10%.  Now it is nearly impossible to see unless you are viewing it from just the right angle (i.e. perpendicular to the line).
Attached are two pictures.  I took a shot of the iPad before either treatment and adjusted it in Photoshop to be about exactly how noticeable the scratch was before the treatment (it was still under the ArmourSuit at that time).  Keep in mind that this shot was angled intentionally to maximize its visibility, so this wasn't a super deep scratch.  I then took another shot after both treatments and at the same angle.  Again, I adjusted it slightly in Photoshop to match what I am seeing now (and again the shot is worse than real life - by a long shot).
I think the results shown in the picture are perfectly accurate and pretty much speak for themselves.   I would say the two steps were a 100% successful since I did not think I would be able to reduce the scratch as much as I did given what others were saying online.
Conclusion: you CAN remove iPad back scratches if you really want to!
Here is before (note there is a piece of cat hair on the right, not a second scratch)

  • As I can remove the scratches of a iphone 4?

as I can remove the scratches of a iphone 4??

If you are asking if you can remove minor scratches off the iphone 4 glass then there is a solution depending on how bad the scratches are.
    1. You can pay to have a repair center replace the glass. OR
    2. You can use an automotive glass windscreen scratch repair compound and special pad - on a certain online auction site for $10. Remember to tape up any holes or places where excess compound could get in to the phone and rub slowly. I tried this and it worked! But be very careful not to get compound into the speaker or gaps.
If you can afford it - do option 1 its much safer!

    Hi,
I don't use thumbnails but I went ahead and turned them on.
Perhaps due to the position of the slideshow only a few thumbnails appeared.
I wasn't able to delete the image I wanted removed.

  • When customizing the Add-on Bar, separators ("|") are not visible. How can I remove them?

Not only are they not visible, they're not selectable either. They /do/ appear normally (i.e., when not customizing toolbars). Running Firefox 22.0 on Linux Mint 15 (Olivia: x86-64).

Your toolbar customizations are stored in the localstore.rdf data file in your currently active Firefox profile folder. This XML-based file makes difficult reading and I don't recall seeing any good documentation on how to edit it. If you want to give it a try, please make a backup first.
If the file becomes corrupted (or more corrupted, as the case may be), you can rename or move it and Firefox will generate a new one with default settings, and you can start customizing from scratch.
With that out of the way, it actually looks as though you should be able to find and remove the separators.
    <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#'''addon-bar'''"
    mode="icons"
    collapsed="false"
    currentset="addonbar-closebutton,stylish-toolbar-button,spring,downloads-button,'''separator''',fireshot-Capture-Button,greasemonkey-tbb,noscript-tbb,fiddlerhook-toolbar-button,status-bar" />
    To give this a try:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Open Directory" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then make a backup copy of '''localstore.rdf''' (e.g., localstore.0808) and open the rdf file in a text editor to find and edit the separators out of the addon bar.
When you restart Firefox, your changes should be evident.
    Any luck?

  • Can't Login to SharePoint as an invited External User / Can't Remove All Traces of External User with Microsoft Account

    Hi TechNet,
I have an MS SharePoint Online (SharePoint Plan 2) team site, quite simple, one document library etc.
I have successfully added all users (E3) within the organisation to groups, and permissioned correctly.
I have added myself (separate organisation, also Office 365 E3) as an External User, and have access to the website without any problems by authenticating with my Organization account e-mail address.
I have a single user (separate organisation, also Office 365 E3), who's setup is identical to mine (Also Office 365 E3).
However, when this user is added as an External User, they are unable to login, and get "Sign In is not complete":
    That didn't work
We're sorry, but [email protected] can't be found in the CLIENT1.sharepoint.com directory. Please try again later, while we try to automatically fix this for you.

    URL: https://CLIENT1.sharepoint.com/
    User: [email protected]
    Issue Type: Partner User Invalid.
I then remove the user using the Site Collection, and using the PRofile Manager, and using Remove-SPOUser, and using Remove-SPOExternalUser. Which is great, he's gone. However when I go to add him back to a group, as soon as I type his e-mail address, it
'Resolves' into his full name! If I have completely(?) removed him form the site, how is he being resolved? And therefore me trying to remove him to re-add him to try and solve the user/directory/auth issue is not working.
Furthermore, upon clicking on said client's username inside SharePoint (after I've 'added him back' of course), his ID, in format: i:0#.f|membership|live.com#[email protected] has an entirely different e-mail address, his Microsoft Account!
I'm assuming he must have been already signed into his Microsoft Account when he clicked on the External User e-mail invite? If so, I clearly do not want this, how can I remove lal traces of his Microsoft Account, given that I have gone to the lengths as
    detailed above?
I have already completed these steps: http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/148/p/228263/709905.aspx

    Regards,
    Evanly.

    Hi Scott,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and respond to my issue.
Certainly, it makes sense that regardless of where the invitation it sent, the user would authenticate with their Microsoft ID.
In my case, I want the user to authenticate using their Microsoft Organisation ID, that they use for their seperate Office 365 account.
This is the way I was able to log in, and worked great. With my client, they are unable to access Sharepoint because once they sign in with their Microsoft Organisation / Office 365 ID, they are told they are not in the directory, because their Microsoft
ID is in the directory and it doesn't match up.
I am simultaneously trying to 1) Remove all traces of this users Microsoft ID, which so far using the above steps, has been unsuccessful; and 2) Invite the user using his Microsoft Organisation ID, and have him authenticate with that (which is proved to
work, as my account uses this).
Looking forward to any more suggestions. Thanks in advance!

  • Can't make Windows work and can't remove it

I've given up trying to fix Windows and so figure to remove it altogether. But Bootcamp Assist is of no use. All I get when I try to continue (after choosing whether or not to check for updates) is:
The Startup disk cannot be partitoned or restored to a single partiton. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Bootcamp Assistant for installing Windows.
Well, of course it was partitioned by Bootcamp assistant when I installed Windows in the first place. Now it's somehow supposed to be unpartitioned before I can remove Windows? That's not what the manual says. I seem to be stuck with a Bootcamp partition with Windows XP Pro on it forever. Can't fix it, can't remove it. In Disk Utility the Verify and Repair buttons are greyed out entirely. (All that's wrong with Windows is an invalid boot.ini file, which cannot be repair as drive letters in Windows were somehow switched all around. Recovery Console can't even find--using Scan command--my Windows installation. There's no fixing this problem.)
Is the only solution to begin from scratch, including removing Mac OS (Snow Leopard in my case) and start all over? Seems pretty radical just to remove a Windows install. Or should I just trying erasing the Bootcamp partition and hoping then that I can reformat it HFS?
One thing I've learned is, never use Bootcamp becauase Windows (any Windows will fail at some point, as all Windows installation invariably do) and then one is really stuck with--in my case--200 GB of wasted disk space.

If you can not remove the partition the normal way (Boot Camp) then you will have to remove it some other way, you may or may not be able to resize the OSX partition in order to reclaim the missing space. My method takes care of both issues, Good luck.

  • How can I remove a Question Mark icon from Dock?

Long story short, I installed GeekTool from the AppStore.
The first thing I noticed was it put a unremovable icon on my dock.
So, I found and deleted the app (in Finder), and then I ended up with a Question Mark Icon on my Dock:
If I try and Drag/Drop it off my Dock, it floats back  If I control click/right click on it, I get an 'Options' menu, with nothing under it.
After searching and searching and searching the Support Communities I found and tried the following: removed the com.apple.dockfixup.plist file, and did the 'killall Dock' command in terminal, both failed..
To make matters worse... I said to myself, perhaps if I reinstalled it again, and tried from scratch, I could find some 'uninstaller' either in the app, or in the AppStore.  I found out the hard way, the AppStore does not have an Uninstaller.  Now I have TWO icons I can not remove:
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
    Jay

Have you checked your Accounts login items for geektool?  If so remove it.
Did you check your Activity Monitor to see if geektool.app is running (maybe two since you said you reinsalled two).  If so kill it (or them).
Log out and log back in.  Then see if you can drag the icons out of the dock.
Update: Actually if you do find them in your login items then you don't have to kill them, just log out and back in and try clearing the dock.
You also want to delete the preference pane in your ~/Library/PreferencePanes.

    Hi,
Moving file from Ready directory to Archive directory is MDM internal process and I strongly feel it is not possible to control the naming convention of File to be placed in Archive directory.
But you can explain what problem you developer is facing while moving file from Archive directory to some other directory..then we can think about solution to acheive this. Also on which operating system you MDM server is installed.
