Can I rename my iPod?

I have an iPod nano and an iPod touch that are both called "Ernie's iPod" in iTunes.  Since the iPod touch is wireless, it's usually in the Devices list, and when I plug in the iPos nano to sync it, both appear -- and at can be confusing.  Can I rename either or both of them?

Yes.  When connected to the computer/iTunes, just click on the name under Devices and change the name like yu change a file name.  If you have iOS 5, Yu can also go to Settings>General>About>Name and change the name.

I am using a Mac and an iPod Nano (the old longer one)

Double-click the name in the device summary screen to get a cursor, and edit the name. In previous versions of iTunes, you could change the name by clicking it once.

You just want to rename your device?  If so, simply double click its current name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and type in a new one.

  • How can I rename my Ipod

I recently purchased the Ipod and my friend did the same but the Name of the Ipod is just that "IPOD" and i would prefer to change it does anyone know how i can fix this?

Whoa! Quite a hard time you went through.
Yet the sollution is simple: Mark the iPod icon in the source list, pause for a second (or two ,
click on the name ("iPod" in your case, I guess)
then iTunes should allow you to type a new name. Voilà.
    Hope that helps

  • Can I rename an iPod?

Ok, so when the iPod pops up on the left side of my screen on iTunes, is it possible to change the name? Because this is a used iPod so I was hoping I could erase the old user's name

Yep. Change it just like you would change the name of a file. Click on it to highlight the name and then type in the new name. Done!

  • HT1789 how to rename my ipod in the latest version of iTunes as this support answer is about an old version of iTunes!?

How can I rename my iPod in the most recent versionof iTunes 11.0.2??  This support answer is with regard to an old version of iTunes.  I'd really like to rename it.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thank you.  I don't understand why Apple insists on leaving the old support info up there and every query seems to point to it.  Yours was the only useful answer I've found.

  • HT3965 Rename an ipod

With the new itunes format I can not figure out how to rename my ipod. Please help.

If you'd like to return to the old iTunes format, you can follow these steps:
    1. Look for the Menu Bar (File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, Help)
    2. If you see it, great! Head to step 4.
    3. Press Ctrl + B on the keyboard
    4. Go to View > Show Sidebar
And voila! You should now be seeing a familiar interface.
You can also rename the iPod without a computer.
Navigate to Settings > General > About > Name and proceed to change the name directly from the iPod itself.

  • Can't rename files on ipod

I am sorry if this is a repeat question. I have searched for 1.5 hours here and have not found what I was looking for.
I copied episodes of TNG onto my (PC)laptop. I dragged them into my iTunes. They play great. I just can't rename them on the ipod. When they are copied (manually) onto the ipod, they lose their names and show up as Title01_01 rather than "Yesterday's enterprise" or whatever...
They DO play on the iPod -- I just want to know WHICH ONE I am playing! Thanks.

    OK-- Here's what I did.
I changed everything to manual transfer. I deleted my videos and reconverted them again. I dragged them AGAIN into itunes. I had to change the names by hand in iTunes-- and then, if I click on them with the new name, it goes back to the title0101 etc. So, I have not tried putting anything onto my iPod again -- (I am in the middle of an audiobook and don't want to lose the place!) If anyone's interested in how this comes out, I'll be glad to post back when I do add this to the iPod.
    peace out.

  • How many times can you reset an ipod

I have a 4G iPod purchased 6/05. My computer is 14in iBook with Mac OS X 10.4.3. I mainly use the firewire dock connector my iBook to update music/podcasts. I use the iPod on my way to work with a Griffin iTrip and at work by hooking up to Kensington dock.
I've been having intermittent problems with the iPod freezing on me. It has happened a few times when I hit "play" on a song when it wasn't hooked up to an output source (no headphones or dock connection). But in general, I can't determine any specific inciting event to explain why the iPod freezes or why I need to reset.
The iPod responds well to a simple reset, which has been going on weekly. On one occasion, I had to completely restore it--including renaming the iPod and resyncing everything.
So, is this a normal occurence? Is a reset every week or two out of the ordinary? Is there something wrong with my iPod?
    Thanks,
    Meetul

i think having to reset your ipod really at all is out of the ordinary. bring it to an apple store, call support, or look around the forums for topics pertaining to this.

  • Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.
    Good Luck!

  • I can not update my Ipod Error 3194

I can not update my Ipod Error 3194

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
