Can I repair a Snow Leopard disk from a Tiger machine?

I had the hard drive go down on a MacPro with an Intel processor running OS 10.6.4. When I try to boot, it gets to the Apple screen and shuts down. Running the disk utility from the installation disk gives me the error:
Checking HFS Plus Volume
Invalid Extent Entry
Volume Check Failed
I pulled the drive and connected it with a USB adapter to a spare Mac G5 with a PowerPC processor running Tiger 10.4.11. I can read the disk on the G5 with Tiger. Disk utility on the G5 gives me the same error when trying to repair the disk.
Are there any utilities out there I can run on Tiger to repair the Snow Leopard disk? Free if possible?
Or a good OSX utility that will let me image the drive to another hard drive? This is a production machine in a printing environment and I need to get it back up and running as soon as possible.

I could not repair the disk from the command line either. It gave me the same error messages. I did not try Carbon Copy Cloner...yet. I had an extra 250GB drive which I re-installed 10.6.4.
I can bring up the old drive on the USB adapter, so I am going to try the Mac Migration Assistant. Which I've never done before. Does anyone know if it bring over all the applications during the migration? Or will I have to re-install all the applications over again?

I bought a brand new hard drive and brand new full install snow leopard discs single user to install on my empty hard drive. about a year later the hard drive crashed again, but it was still under warranty so i sent it out to get a new one. now when i try to install the same snow leopard disc, it says it can not be installed on this computer. I feel like I've been ripped off now, because i have no operating system on my computer and i already spent $129 on the snow leopard disc a year ago. Is there anything i can do to install this? I also have an iMac, I heard you can take the operating system from that or something? I just need my macbook back.

Yes. Boot from the installation disc, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, select the internal drive, and partition it with the default options. Then run the Installer.

I followed the instructions to download the DiskRecovery Assistant to install on a thumb drive only to discover that I cannot use this with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. My disk needs repairing NOW and Software Update says my OS X is up to date. I cannot get a strong recommendation to install Lion on this older MacBook Pro2.2 as Apple does not say it is appropriate for this hardware.

I agree totally.
My disk needs repairing NOW and Software Update says my OS X is up to date.
Before you do anything, do you have a copy of your personal data off the machine on a external storage drive? (not TimeMachine for now)
Do that first, then whatever happens your data is fine. Disconnect the drive.

Can I use my Snow Leopard license in a virtual machine hosted by Mountain Lion?

If I upgrade to mountain lion, can I install snow leopard from my existing upgrade CD, purchased years ago? Need to keep snow leopard around because I'm running an app which won't run in newer OSX versions.

I am going to call Apple and purchase a copy of SL Server for research purposes.
Also, there are some people who need access to Rosetta that just do not have the capability to use Terminal and I have always suggested that they look into acquiring SL Server (since both Parallels and VMWare allow for easier installation of SL Server).
So putting up the look and feel of SL Server may be worth the ease of installation.
This may cause me to restart an old project: extracting all of the additional frameworks that Server installs, so that it can be installed but look like and work like Snow Leopard client again

How can I open a Snow Leopard Stickies Database on Tiger?

I have a problem. My MBP running 10.6.x Snow Leopard is in the shop getting fixed. In the meantime I am using my backed-up files on an iBook running 10.4.11 Tiger. I desperately need some data from my Stickies on the MPB, where the Stickies Database was created in Snow Leopard. But Stickies on 10.4.11 will not open the database. Any idea how to recover that data?

I just solved my own problem:
Turns out that, when the Stickies app is closed, the StickiesDatabase file shows up in user/Library
Just copy and paste in same location on new computer, 10.6.4 or earlier.

Help wanted! Can't boot Snow Leopard, neither from HD nor disc!

Hi.
I tried to install Windows in Bootcamp on my wife's MacBook Pro 15" 2.4Ghz (with OSX SL), but something went wrong in the process and I now want to start all over by erasing the Bootcamp partition entirely.
But, as I try to start up in MacOSX it just stops at the start sound over and over again.
Can't shortcut by force starting it from MacOSX (command-X), from disc (command-C) or as a firewire disc (command-T).
I also can't eject the Snow Leopard DVD from the drive bay.
All it does is trying to boot and making the start up sound over and over and over and....
Help is VERY much appreciated, please!

Try starting in Safeboot and see if you get any further. To eject the DVD hold the left mouse button of a wired mouse on startup.

It appears my systems is to old to update online. So where can I buy a Snow Leopard disk/s. My local Best Buy does not carry the disk update anymore. Where can I get the disk?
Not to happy with my MAC right now ............. It seems to be poorly supported by APPLE. Am I missing something ?

She can't with your disk as it's specific to your Mac. She would need a retail copy (Black with X on it) to install SL.

You can upgrade direct from 10.6.8 to 10.8 Mountain Lion without going through 10.7 Lion with the Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody. The Model 5,1 will probably run 10.9 Mavricks when it comes out.
10.8 Mountain Lion is a download from the App Store, the price is $19.99.
Mountain Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.

Also Mountain Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Mountain Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

Reinstalling lion from app store, can I still have Snow Leopard on a partition?

I rushed out too early to install Lion via Apple Apps store. Now, I realize that Rosetta is gone and so are my options to use older apps.
I have never partition my hard drive, but using disk utility I created a partition called "Snow Leopard." It divided my HD in half which is okay. I closed the disk utility window, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and saw the OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD v10.6.2. When I select it, a window pops up saying, "You can't use this version of the appl inst Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X. You have installed Mac OS X 23.1.1."
Before downloading lion, I made a backup of my existing Snow Leopard HD using Time Machine to an external HD. When I open up a saved version dated a month ago, I see that the applications that were working in Snow Leopard now have the icon circle saying that it is not supported by Lion. This is strange since I used Time Machine to back up my HD, then turned off the app before downloading Lion. Even older versions saved on the external HD show the circle.
I read about lion and the "Recovery HD," but when I hold down the Command-R key nothing happens when I restart my computer. It also talks about using the option key but that does not work. It talks about reinstalling lion using this system, but I don't see it working.
I have now decided to download Iion again from the Apps Store, got the option key to work and as of now it is slowly downloading. I plan to make a bootable DVD of Lion before installing it again. I also can create a partition called "Lion," since I deleted my partition called "Snow Leopard," or first created a partition called "Snow Leopard" since I deleted it again from the HD. Since I still have the original Lion install on my iMac, if I create a new partition can I then get the "Snow Leopard," disk to install on that partition? I tried Carbon Copy, and it loaded in from my external HD to a previous partition but when I opened it up many documents had a "RED X," saying something about permissions. So that is when I deleted the first partition.
Now, I want to start over, and have two bootable versions, Lion and Snow Leopard. Can someone tell me the right way to do this?

I read #14 and your helpful hints. I am afraid to erase and reformat the drive because I am not as knowledgeable as others maybe. I have a website, and I don't want too loose all of my work and photos if I make a mistake.
I installed the Snow Leopard disk that came with my iMac i5 (2010), I first created a partition labeled "Snow Leopard." Started up the computer and saw the install icon. I selected the partition and followed the instructions, when that was done, I selected in Utilities, to back up from time machine on my external Seagate HD. When it was done, I noticed on the desk top two Macintosh HD, but changed back the name of my Snow Leopard 10.6.8. When I start up from the Snow Leopard HD, I see in the dock my older apps with the icon circle showing that I can't use them, like when I start up from Lion.
On the backup version on my external HD, I selected a date in March for the time machine backup. When I open up my external drive and select the apps it says, "Can't open up apps because it is in a time machine backup. Before installing Lion last week I backed up Snow Leopard in time machine and turn it off before installing Lion.
How can I get my old apps to work, it seems that time machine won't allow me to open up my older apps. The only reason that I am going to all of this trouble is that some older apps like File Maker Pro, Nvu, Motion Pictures HD, Switch, and a few others have some data that I want to see before I decided to trash the folders and just use Lion.
Any suggestions?

You can install directly, assuming the disk is newer than your computer and not designed for a different Mac, but doing so won't install iLife.

turn the mac all the way off. turn the mac on by pressing the power button. as soon as the apple logo appears, pres and hold your mouse button(trackpad mouse clicker etc...) until the CD comes out.

Restart with the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD in the drive or with the Lion USB drive connected, hold down the Option key just after the restart, tab to the installation disk, and press Enter. If the computer has a firmware password set, it needs to be provided for this to work.
