Can I repartition my MB 10.5.8 to dualboot Snow Leopard on the same int.HD?

I want to repartition my MacBook HD currently running Leopard and install Snow Leopard in a dual boot system. Is Snow Leopard compatible with my early '08 MB? Are there any steps I need to perform or pay particular attention to? My original Leopard install is corrupted and needs to be reinstalled from scratch. Not sure if I can even create the current firmware install discs I would like to have. I have an extra 100 Gb of space for a Snow Leopard install. Also interested if Mac OSx Server is a possibillity to install. I have the Intel chip. Very intersted in your input. Thanks in advance.

15 is probably enough.  And if you kept your home dir in a separate volume then you could use your same home dir on both leopard and snow leopard.  This is one of the reasons I recommend keeping the home dir on a separate volume.  Very convenient for switching OS's or needing to use a (backup) copy of the current OS.

Alternatively, partition your internal HD and dual-boot it. Do note that you have to reboot to switch back and forth. You can't do it by logging out and back in.

  • Can i have both leopard and snow leopard on the same partition?

I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5. I want to install 10.6 and keep 10.5 on the same drive. The drive has only one partition. What problems might I encounter.

Yes you can, you could put the two in separate partitions to be safe.
Unless,  as Michael noted, you use VM software to run a different OS on the same  partition, impossible is the word you're looking for. Not safe.
He asked if you can or not. not safety advice. It's a simple yes or no. and yes you can. For all I am concerned, the man is an evil genius building an IT bomb before his final day after an untimely layoff. It's a yes or no question man. Did not ask your opinion on the highly unlikely event that he is able to go through the initial system checks and failsafes, and installation, and then the cosmic chance of success.  If you notice, the only thing I stressed was to get your backups. After that, go nuts.  It's how you learn.
Trigger a dependency issue that the OS tries to correct and it snowballs into a mess.
Is that supposed to mean something? Anything?
Are you by chance one of the apple-sticker-prius jockeys who deliberately close the door on me in the far left lane because you feel that every situation has a moral right and a wrong, and you're left to opine?  Except what's happening is I'm on my Yamaha and a you're technically attempting murder? I"m used to this guy.
ALright say your mac OS =64 bit, but the hardware inside is 64 and 32. Off the top of my head- the Intel GMA chipsets are still running 32 bit drivers regardless of OS. Install 64bit on that machine and I think you're going to have issues with faulty driver dependencies where GMA spots a newer driver on the old 32bit partition vs. install disc. Youcan't fix this. By the time you start seeing errors, the OS has already tried fixing the dependencies by following down the 32 bit trail and dumping its own core. Try it if you don't believe me.
you want to fill the disk with zeros.
kadaggett (or anyone for that matter), do not follow this advice. It won't make a spit of difference how fast your  Mac will operate. The only purposes for a zero erase is to either try to  map out bad blocks that have developed (in which case, you should  replace the drive), or you're making it much more difficult for anyone  to recover deleted data.
Right off the bat I think you should stay away from SSDs or perhaps run them in IDE mode to be safe. Or you'd bereplacing them every other day.  WHat I"ll be doing is allocating 10% to cache, playing with the trim, keeping it <50% full, and using 60GB cache to run my OS. You do what you like.  Send me your old HDD's though. Ever try formatting an SSD? And then it actually boots as if you hadn't formatted? Hey you thinkinn maybe sentient Macs experience phantom limb syndrome?
I find and fix bad blocks and realize 90% of them weren't bad. I don't know maybe the ghosts are back. But maybe it was static shock that temporarily crippled a few blocks. Can't know until touch it with a 0. And there is nothing wrong with 0s.  This is not 1987 and you are not going to hurt your What?  Don't order people to follow this or that advice - are you like the hall monitor around here?  WHy do you tell people what follow? Why do you assume they are here to follow? Do you feel like you just led people to the right path? You feelin good? Because I think we both look like ********.

  • Can i transfer everything from one ipad to another so both have exactly the same things

Can i transfer everything from one ipad to another so both have exactly the same things?

Yes. Copy your apps and other iTunes purchases/downloads to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases if you have iTunes 11 on your computer), then backup up the first iPad and restore that backup onto the second iPad.
    Backups and restores : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
Things that aren't included in a backup include the contents of the Music and Videos apps (but they should be on your computer's iTunes) and photos that were synced from a computer. Also you will need to enter your passwords (email, wifi, website) on the second iPad - they won't be restored onto a different device, only back onto the device that the backup came from.

  • How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer?

How many times can you clean install leopard on the same computer? Will the leopard dvd run out of installations and not let you install anymore?

    Hi colman Prez;
Now that the funny comments have been made, I have a serious question and that why are you worry about reinstalling Leopard with an Erase & Install which is what I take that you mean when you say clean install. In actually fact there is no such thing in OS X as a clean install.
I am curious because in all the years I have used OS X, I have yet to do an Erase & Install yet.
I know with Windows that they suggest reformatting and reinstalling at the drop of a hat but that isn't true with OS X.

Sorry, but that is correct. You need Snow Leopard to sync your phone and the latest version of iTunes and you old G5 cannot run that.

How can my wife and I be friends in game center if we use the same Itunes account?

You can set up multiple accounts in Game Centre, sign out and create new account. You just need a different email address from any existing Apple ID's and a new password. You can still use the old account for purchases.

  • Can I run Tiger and Leopard on the same computer

    Hi folks.
I've been meaning to install Leopard for ages but have never got round to it (I bought the retail box when it first came out). I have upgraded my RAM to 2GB and my hard drive to 320GB with no problems.
My upgraded hard drive has been partitioned into 2 equal parts of 160GB. These appear on desktop as Mackintosh HD1 and HD2. HD1 is the disk with all my files, music, OS etc and HD2 is empty
I have 2 bootable clones of my present system - one is on a 160GB external and the other is the original 80GB HD that I replaced.
My question is this - can I install Leopard on to my 160GB external HD, then clone it on to the empty HD2. If I do this would I be able to run both Tiger and Leopard on the same Macbook?
Is there any problems with this plan? Would I be able to transfer between the 2 OS and how do I install Leopard on the external drive. Is it just a case of inserting the Leopard DVD and choose the external drive as the target?
    As usual thanks in advance

    # Original Tiger in the internal HD, New Leopard in the external HD.
    # New Leopard in the internal, Legacy cloned Tiger in the external.
    # Split internal, one partition with Tiger, another with Leopard.
Leopard is backwardly compatible with older Macs, just make sure yours fulfills the minimum system requirements, both use the same filesystem format, so each can see the other. You can't run both at the same time, unless you purchase the server version of Leopard and run it virtualized. 99.9% of Firewire external HD's are bootable, some USB's are bootable but have to test first. You can choose which system to boot from by pressing the Option key at boot time, before the chime. Just make sure the external HDD is plugged in and turned on if that's where you want to boot from.
When I migrated my PBG4 from Panther to Tiger, got an external FW HDD, cloned Panther onto it, upgraded using Archive and Install, cleaned up, customized and tested it. When I was satisfied all was ok, cloned the original Panther onto another partition of the external HDD, wiped and tested for failure the internal HDD, then cloned the known good and tested Tiger into it. Only thing that died along the way was my old and ancient Photoshop v2.x, that refused to run on Tiger.

Yes, that's exactly what I'd suggest for the vast majority of users.

    Hello royalaqua,
I do think you should ask yourself if upgrading to Lion is the right course to take.
Snow Leopard is an excellent OS and Lion has literally been frozen out after barely a year.   Remember too that some of your apps may not work with Lion (those that have Rosetta, for example) so that could mean more new purchases.   Plus you may need to uprate your RAM too.

  • After the newest update, i can no longer type in traditional chinese ( pin yin), does anyone else have the same problem?

after the newest update ( iso 7) , i can no longer type in traditional chinese ( pin yin), does anyone else have the same problem?

I downloaded and tried EasyFind. It works but it took 30+ seconds to complete finding 3 files that are on One of my Five 25+ Gb partitions of my 130 Gb Seagate Cuda(Really 160 Gb, but my Sawtooth will only recognize 130) I figured that if I ever got a better box, I could reformat it to see the whole 160 Gb. So, as far as I can see, Spotlight's indexing scheme which finds the files instantly is probably preferable. Spot light allows you to rename your files from within it's app window. I've always thought that was pretty powerful. Could my doing so be causing me any issues? As i said it is the inability to Type in the Finder that seemed to be caused from changing file Extentions that were mis-written. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to my renaming files in the Spotlight app? I've done both on occasion.
As for these .DS_Store files. Apparently you can NOT stop them from being written to any folder that you touch/open/view during a days session. But, as a function of the OS, are the essential to have in their respective folders Forever? I've looked at the .DS_Store terminator app briefly and assume that getting rid of these files won't hurt the regular operation of my OS. They will just be re-written if I ever have to go back to any particular folder again. But, apparently, some have said that if the plan on burning a CD or DVD of their data, they delete the .DS_Store files first and then do the burn.
I'm thinking from your having suggested this tremination app that you suspect that my having all of these ,DS_Store files could be a situation where any of them could have become corrupted and terminating them regularly should be part of my regular maintenance.
Does that sound like I'm understanding what I can do?
    TIA

  • Can I pair and use more than one set of bluetooth speakers at the same time on my ipod touch 4.0

can I pair and use more than one set of bluetooth speakers at the same time on my ipod touch 4.0 or Iphone 4s or Ipad 2?

You can only connect to one device at a time using Bluetooth, See article below for more information.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1664
While your iOS device can maintain multiple pairing records, it can only connect to one headset or hands-free device at a time. This prevents your iOS device from sending your data to the wrong Bluetooth accessory.

I´m using snow leopard the last version. What can i do to solve this problem and and continue using my itunes normally?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.
