Can i replace a graphics card on a compaq 6910p

I bought a used Compaq 6910p formy daughter that uses the Vista OS. We have digitally installed the Sims 3 game, but can't seem torun it. Every time we start to run the gameit givesus the following error message:
Unable to Start game.
Device0 cannot run this title.
No supported video graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware.
I believe my notebook has a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, so was wondering if I can update that driver so the Sims 3 game can be played on this notebook? I have reserched numerous websites with no luck finding a solution. Can anyone recommend a plan of attack on what I should do?

That's quite an old notebook and I believe there is nothing that can be done to improve it's performance to play the Simpson's game.
The other problem that you may face is that you're running Vista on a machine that was meant for Windows 2000 and it simply can't handle that OS and there may not be a compatible driver for it.
You can try this though, go to Intel and run the driver finder and see if it can find a newer driver that may help.

This assumes you're running an Intel video card. I could not find you specs, so the other card you may have is
ATI.

ATI also has an application to automatically find the correct driver. It's at the top of the list in "Green"

Basically you can, with a cost and I believe this cost may be more expensive than buying a new computer because you have to take into account:
New card price, and WHERE you can buy it because laptop cards are not the same as desktop cards. You can't buy from any normal shop,
Need new system board (may be),
Need new cooling system because generally speaking more powerfull card pumps out more heat (you want more powerfull card don't you?).
May need new PSU because your current PSU may not suitbale to the card. (I ordered a machine with Nvidia card and I needed to order a 90W charger at the same time, not the normal 65W charger. They simply rejected my order).
Labor cost.
Many, many packets of Asprin.

Can I replace the graphics card on Tecra M2?

I have a Tecra M2 and the screen shows verticle lines across the entire screen. These lines also show up when plugged up to a regular screen.
I checked the device manager and it says the nvidia card "cannot start." Troubleshoot had me uninstall and reinstall, no luck.
Next option is to unplug and then plug back in, but is this possible? If it is separate I'd rather just replace the card. Thanks for any help.

According to your error description it sounds really like a GPU (graphic processing unit) malfunction.
Unfortunately, this is a serious fault and without a hardware replacement you will be not able to solve this problem :(
This is a worth case because you cannot replace only the graphic card. You have to replace the whole motherboard because the GPU is soldered on the board and cannot be removed easily.
There is nothing to do buddy.

Hi:
The only way to upgrade the video adapter in a notebook is to completely replace the motherboard with one for your model that may have better graphics.
Normally such a project will set you back more than you paid for the notebook as the motherboard alone (assuming there is an available one with better graphics) will cost several hundred dollars just for the part.
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook. Supported processors can be found in chapter 1, on page 1.
It used to be that quad core processors required a different motherboard than the dual core processors but I don't see different motherboards listed for quad or dual core processors, only the type of graphics (chapter 3).
So, I cannot tell you if an i7 quad core will work in your notebook or not.

Upgrading graphics chips on laptops is very difficult and mostly impossible because the chips are soldered to the motherboard. You can upgrade the graphics chip by replacing the motherboard with a compatible one which has a more powerful graphics chip. In your case it is a mobo with an Nvidia GF GT650M with 2GB of DDR5 RAM. However, the motherboard costs approx $600. The part number you need is: 682040-001.

There are many MANY threads on this, the answer is that it's not worth your time since you have to have a replacement card that the HP system BIOS already likes,, and this is not the same as replacing anything in a desktop, this is the equivalent of replacing the graphics in a laptop.
Since the graphics cards are not considered a user upgradable component there are no lists of "approved cards" nor guides to doing it, the closest you could do is the service or recycling disassembly sheets.

HP actually loaned me a very similar laptop last year...an Envy 17-j029nr that had the 750M graphics and while the video was way above average, it was not a true gaming laptop. HP is not going to accept it back in trade after you have used it but it can be sold still for a decent sum and you can use the proceeds to buy a gaiming laptop. You might consider the HP Omen. It has nVidia 860 graphics with up to 4 gigs of DDR5 I believe for maybe $2200 all in. Right now I have the lower model Omen on loan from HP but mine is the version with the DDR3 video memory. It is much stronger than the 750M video in my old loaner. Oh, and there is no way to upgrade what you have. The 750M was the best video offered in that model line. You can only replace the same graphic modal if its soldered to the mainboard because it wont be compatible with mainboard.

I have installed on my laptop a brand new Vista from the original DVD that Im using it on my desktop, but the problem is that vista can not detect my graphic card hd2600.
So Im stuck...... I tried to install the ati driver from the Toshiba update site but I get a error because ccc can not detect a graphic card ?????/

The whole issue is really mysterious. In my opinion there are two options;
Either your have used and tried to install a wrong graphic driver or there is something wrong with your GPU chip.
Are you 100% that you tired an right graphic driver from the Toshiba European driver page?
If yes, then I recommend contacting the ASP in your country because this could be really an hardware issue.

What is it you are trying to do? They do make usb 2.0 to HDMI adapters which will give you an additional monitor through an HDMI port but the performance is only good enough for web surfing and spreadsheets and such. Ah, so It's unlikely that Java3D will include anything for reading this data then? I was really aiming at measuring the GPU usage under this API which although i have limited knowledge using, I do at least have some knowledge - I wouldn't have a clue how to access any other API's!

While anything is theoretically possible, you would need to find another GPU that is compatible with your specific model iMac, and you would need to modify OS X to use a driver appropriate for whatever you propose to install. Future OS X updates would break it in short order. Not only that, you'd void whatever warranty that remains. It's not worth it.
