Can I replace the motherboard in a late 2011 with a newer one

I've been cursed with the dreaded 2011 video card nonsense. I need a solution and it has to be out of pocket, I don't have Applecare. But I don't want to do it more than once. So if I could use a newer motherboard, it might save me some money in the long run.

You can certainly get a replacement board from Apple, but too many people have been stung that way, going through logic board after logic board.
The only real 'fix' for the problem seems to be a BGA reballing. Some have had failure even after a reball so make certain that you select a shop that offers at least one year's warranty.
Good luck,
Clinton

  • Error in replacing the default repository of BI server with a new one

    Hi everyone,
This is my first post to this form, i have just started exploring oracle BI Enterprise edition.
I am naive to Oracle BI, sorry i do'nt know much about the installion and configuration things, i installed Oracle BI to explore the Development things.
I am currently creating a repository by using bi administrator tool. I am following the following tutorial
    http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/fmw/bi/bi1113/biadmin11g_01/biadmin11g.htm
As I was doing the necessary prerequisite setups for the deployment of SAMPLEAPP core application.
I have done the following steps
    1. Copying Files into Appropriate Locations
    2. Creating Main SampleApp Oracle Data source
    3. Deploying Weblogic Server Users and Custom Apps (Please note that i can'nt find BI_Server1 so i have done this step on Admin Server)
    4. Deploy Custom content folder location in WLS (Again the Admin Server was selected by default as there was'nt BI_SERVER1)
    5. OBIEE Configuration Edits and Starting (Please note that i have done the setting for PHYSICAL_TABLE_NAME as
PHYSICAL_TABLE_NAME = "XX - System DB (ORCL)"."Catalog"."dbo"."S_NQ_ACCT"; (I do'nt know with which value to replace XX, so i putted 09 as it was in the tutorial.
I am getting error in the following step
    6. Setting the default rpd and webcat paths through EM
I have selected SampleApp.rpd for repository file option and given path for webcat selection after pressing APPLY button i get the error when i click on ACTIVATE CHANGES.
    The error is as following
Supplementry information regarding operation:JEE_SERVER:ETS-HO-SDGN37:Adminserver;Unexpected error; error acquired during setting configuration values.
After getting this error i am not able to login to the Oracle business intellegence page as well while the Administration and EM are able to login normally.

    iphonefan1,
To transfer your information from your old iPhone to your new iPhone, you are going to want to do a few things:
    1) Backup any information on the old iPhone to your computer. You can use Windows Address book or Outlook (2003 or 2007) to backup contacts and Internet Explorer to backup your bookmarks. You will need to import any pictures you have taken on the iPhone to your computer (they do not sync) or email them if you would like them saved. Sync your old iPhone with iTunes so that it will make a backup of your text messages and other preference information.
This article describes what information can be directly synced from your iPhone to the computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306071
    2) Take your SIM card out of your old iPhone and put it into the new iPhone. This takes all of your ATT account information to the new iPhone so that you will not have to run through a full activation again. You will have to run through a mini-activation, but all of your information will already be set up.
    3) Connect the new iPhone into your computer. As part of the mini-activation process, iTunes will ask you if you want to restore your iPhone from the backup. If you say yes, then it will use the preferences from your old iPhone and put them on the new iPhone. You can then sync any information (contacts, bookmarks, photos, etc.) that you backed up on the computer from the old iPhone to the new iPhone.
This article will help you import the data on your computer to the iPhone:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305741
    4) Once you are confident that all of your information has been transferred from the old iPhone to the new one, you can restore the old iPhone and that will put the software back to factory settings. That will also erase all of your old data. (This process cannot be undone, so please make sure you do not need any information off the old iPhone before you restore.)
    Hope this helps!

AAll of your iTunes purchases can be re-downloaded again. Log into iTunes Store, select the Purchases tab for Apps, Music, etc.
if you've been syncing your old iPod with iTunes, you can restore everything to your new iPod from the old backup.

It would help to knowwhich one of the 21 different models of MacBook you have. Some can use a 12.5mm high drive others are limited to no more than 9.5mm high. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.

  • Can I replace the keys on a MB air with keys of a different style?

So I'm in the market for a MBA, but I'm not the hugest fan of the keyboard. What I am a huge fan of is this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB110LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA1Mg . I type on this keyboard every day, and it has quite literally become the highlight of my day. Something about it is just so... intuitive. For those who haven't used it, it uses the same key style as the white MacBooks of old, but with a metal background.
My question is this: can I replace the stock keycaps on the MBA with the ones from the other Apple Keyboard?
Will this require an extensive amount of service from Apple, or can I do it myself?
Any and all help is appreciated- thanks for reading.

I wouldnt suggest doing that type of modification.  Apple will not do that for you.  If you are intent on that keyboard and your MB Air has bluetooth spend the extra $20 and get the wireless one.

  • Can I replace the FiOS D-Link Wireless Router with an AEBS?

I have FiOS and the Verizon supplied D-Link Wireless a/g router that came with the service. I've been happy as a clam with the service but I just bought my first Mac (a 15" MBP) and an AEBS. Ideally it would be nice to replace the D-Link with the AEBS. I tried to do this and everything worked except for FiOS Video On Demand (VOD). It complained about some router issue. So my current setup includes using both the D-Link and the AEBS whereby I have wireless turned off on the D-Link and my AEBS bridged to the D-Link. This seems to be working fine in that wirless to the AEBS is working and my FiOS TV functions are working as expected.
Again, ideally, I'd like to just have AEBS in the mix and take out the D-Link router. Can this be done? It seems the Verizon supplied NIM box likes to only be plugged into the D-Link and not the AEBS.
BTW, I haven't found any definitive posts about how to do this. I've seen posts on the bridging aspect and when an ActionTec router is in the mix but not a D-Link.
    Thanks in advance.

Having similar problem - not clear from your post...did you put the Actiontec in bridge mode and the AEBS Connection Sharing to distribute IP addresses? Or is the AEBS in bridge mode? I thought the Actiontec had to handle NAT, DHCP, etc. and the AEBS had to be in bridge mode. If you have the Actiontec in bridge mode and the AEBS doing the DHCP, NAT, etc., can you describe how you have it wired and the settings in more detail? I am trying to extend my network with an Airport Express using my AEBS as the base station, but can't seem to establish the WDS with the AEBS in bridge mode...am stuck right now with the AEBS in bridge mode and dead spots in the farther reaches of my house. Any ideas or help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Can you replace the HD in a macbook pro with a SSD?

I recently got a new macbook pro 17" 2.2ghz i7 with 720gb SATA HD and was wondering if it would be easy enough (considering it is only a SATA) to replace the current SATA with like a 256GB solid-state drive (SSD), or if its only designed to work with a SATA HD and i'm s.o.l.??

Yes it works great doesn't it.  I replaced mine the day I got it.  I purchased the parts first and then bought the mac.  I got 2 intel 320's 600gb hard drives.  I purchased an optibay and then put both of the hard drives in the macbook pro and then did a raid 0, so now I have 1.2tb of space.  I also purchased 16gb of memory for it, so that couple with the quad-core i7 2.3Ghz processor it's blazing fast, it starts up in 7 seconds.  I love it.

  • Can i replace the optical drive in my G5 with a HDD

I have a G4 and I was thinking of using the HDD from it to try to repair my G5, but it is IDE, and the only place it would go in a G5 is the superdrive slot. I know I could use target disk mode, but I seeem to have misplaced my FireWire cable.
    Cheers.

What OS is on the G5? You can't do a Disk Utility repair on the hard drive you are booted on. Besides it's unlikely the G5 will boot using the OS installed on the G4 HD. Get another Firewire cable.
Do you have the G5 Install/Restore DVD? If so, boot using it & use Disk Utility on it to do the repairs

  • Can I replace the HDD in my early 2011 MB-Pro with SSD?

Hoping to improve performance speed by moving to SSD. Can I do this, and how do I do it. Will time Machine restore to a newly installed SSD?

    So like leroydouglas references.
Makes a world of difference. I've done it to 5 machines so far. Earliest so far 2009 MacBook Unibody.
Started w/ this early 2011 MBP 13" 120 GB SSD and bumped the RAM to 8 GB.
Last week I was working on a client's computer and saw the spinning beach ball. I realized I hadn't seen it in the 6 months since I put in the SSD:
I only use parts from OWC:

    Yes, no problem.

  • Can I replace the optical drive in my iMac with a 2.5" HDD?

    mid-2007 Intel-based iMac
    optical drive is shot
cant install winxp on bootcamp without it
thought it'd be easier to have a separate (already windows-formatted) drive (pulled from my laptop) and choose to boot to either at startup.

possibly, but you need an adapter like this for example: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/ADPTADRV/
Message was edited by: shldr2thewheel---not sure about how this would work with putting it in the optical drive slot.  It should work if put in the spot reserved for the HDD.

  • Can I get the stuff from an old iPhone in my new one via iCloud?

My iPhone started doing something very strange yesterday, so I'm going back to the store today, and I backed up via iCloud, but is it possible to put everything on the new iPhone I will probably get?

How content is restored to a new device
When you go through Setup Assistant on a new iOS 5 device, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.
After your device restarts, your settings and accounts are restored and Backup starts downloading your purchased music, TV shows, apps, books, Camera Roll, and other content.* You may be prompted to enter the passwords for all accounts enabled on your device.
A progress bar will appear underneath the apps that are being downloaded. To prioritize the restore of a specific app, tap its icon. Restore will attempt to download the same version of the app that you had installed previously. If that version is no longer available, the latest version of the app will be restored.
If you are using iTunes Match (U.S. only), you can download any of your songs, albums, or playlist from iCloud after the restore is complete.
To check if the restore is complete, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
