Can I restart my computer in the middle of queued render?
This might be a silly question, but I can't seem to find an answer either way. I have four after effects comps queued up in my render queue, it's currently processing the first one. If it hit "pause" and close out of after affects and/or restart my laptop, will I have to restart the render from the beginning?
Main reason I'm asking: I'm in the middle of a project and IT might have to do something to my computer, and install something (possibly including a reboot), and I'm not sure when, just "whenever they have a moment."
So not my normal workflow, but I'm curious if anyone else has run into this and knows the answer?

If you render an image sequence, it's not a big deal: stop the render, save the project and pick up where you left off.
If you render a move, you'd have to re-render the entire movie that's currently rendering.
Anything else, e.g. Save Frame As or export audio, take such a short time that you can tell the IT person to hold onto his/her shirt for a couple of seconds.

Is your account on your computer an administrator account? Are you able to install other programs without limitation? If not, you might not have administrative privileges, which will make it hard to install things. You can download things, that doesn't require admin privileges, but altering the computer's operation by changing programs requires such privileges. If you do have admin privileges, I don't know what could be causing your problem.

jrod53, that is strange. Displays will always appear under the Hardware tier of the System Preferences. I've never seen it disappear, so I'm a little surprised. Do you have two monitors attached to your computer? It may be the Mac thinks there's two displays and it is send the window for iMovie out to secondary display which you don't have access to. Also is there one side of your display where the mouse will disappear off the edge of the screen, go into a black hole?

I have the same problem with my 2008 MacBook. Repair disk from disk utility says it was successful but the installer thinks it's groundhog day after a reboot. I also tried fsck -fy after booting in to a command mode and it came back clean but again the installer gives the same error message. It seems like a bit is stuck somewhere indicating my HD is bad when it isn't.
I had the latest version of Mountain Lion and have applied every upgrade up to then without issue.
Anyone find a solution yet without having to erase the entire disk and staring over?

All the music should be on the computer so you can just sync the music back to the iPod after you restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod. Regarding app data, just export (email/file sharing etc) as much as possible so you can import it back.

Are you saying that every time that you restart your computer - even if the iPd is not connected to it - apps are erased from the iPad?
iCloud should have nothing to do with this situation. If anything, it would keep the apps on the iPad if the apps are checked to sync in iTunes - but that's not the exactly way that iCloud works anyway.
If you sync over WiFi ...... and if the iPad is plugged into the wall socket and charging, iTunes is running on your computer and the computer is awake - if the apps are checked in iTunes to sync, they should remain on the iPad - not be erased. -
About 2/3 of the time I leave Firefox, it is evidently retained in memory so I can't restart it without using the task manager. I don't use Norton or Skype programs. How do I keep this from happening?

When you say they are displaying in your iTunes library, are you talking about the Audiobooks section of your iTunes library and not the audiobooks section indented under the iPod in the left pane of iTunes under Devices?
Is the iPod Shuffle configured to sync audiobooks or do you manually manage the iPod's contents?
