Can I restore a previous system? Need 10.4 back running

Please help me in my conundrum.
I have been running 10.4 on my iMac and someone (accidentally) installed 10.2 on it (explanation below). Is there any way I can bring 10.4 back since my Mac Repair Shop had installed it for me. My Mac is old and it may be one of those that needs an internal DVD which I don't have. I have an external DVD connected with firewire but when I put the Tiger disc in it will show, but after restart it won't restart (eternal startup wheel), much less start the install process.
Will I have to go back to my repair guy to reinstall 10.4 for me, or what can I do?
If you want to read on: I was poised to change my startup disk with the 10.2 disk so I could repair my hard drive. Someone else made a few wrong clicks in my absence, wanting to help.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Had to get away from it for a little while...very frustrated!
Not it's not a black OS. It has 3Y073212008 on the upper left over the UPC, then on the right 10433-01, lower left 2Z607-3120-A. The disk itself says Mac OS version 10.5.2, AHT version 3A140, Disc version 1.1, 2Z691-6208-A. It was part of a hardware bundle
Sadly, it does not say 10.4 anymore. 10.2 has taken over, by the time I was told what was going on, the second install disk was already running. Nevertheless, the build # is 6C115. Additionally, this is all I can get for the hardware info:
Machine Speed: 700 MHz
Bus Speed: 100 MHz
Number of Processors: 1
L2 Cache Size: 256K
Machine Model: iMac (version = 33.11)
Boot ROM info: 4.1.9f1
(told you, it's an oldie)
Interestingly enough, it does not recognize anything in the firewire port, but it shows me "PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-117D 1.07] Mass Storage Device" on my USB Hub. Hmmm, why would the external DVD be connected both ways? And I checked the wires, it really is connected both ways. Wouldn't it be great if there is just something screwed up in the connection of the ext. DVD to the iMac? I know that if I could just update to 10.5 I'd be in the clear. What do you think?
May not get to see your answer until tomorrow morning. A thousand thanks for taking up this messy fluke with me.

  • Is iTunes 11.1.5 compatible with Mac OSX 10.6.8? If not how can I restore the previous iTunes version?

Problem: Recently when I open iTunes it doesn't work; the little pinwheel just keeps spinning.
I have tried leaving it on, as suggested by another user, for over 12 hours. I didn't work.
I think the new iTunes version, 11.1.5, is not compatible with the operating system; Mac OSX 10.6.8. If this is so, how can I restore the previous iTunes version?

You need to be updated to iTunes 11.2.2.
You might want to consider running the combo updater over your install to refresh your files.
    Combo updater: Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update v.1.1 - 1.09 GB
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
After running the combo updater, select Software Updater and update iTunes.
If iTunes fails to open after updating, hold down the Option key when launching iTunes. It will ask you to locate your iTunes Library.
Note: I've seen users with their iTunes Library on an external drive spin like this when the drive was failed to be seen in Disk Utility. Run Repair Drive on the external drive to fix this issue.

How can I restore a previous backup in iCloud storage for my iPad?

Restoring an iCloud backup requires you to first erase your iPad.  If you have any newer data that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the iPad and when given the option, choose Restore from iPad backup.

  • Restoring a previous system

I recently had to restore 10.4, quittting halfway through, then re-doing it again. The result being it hasn't restored my previous system. There Is a folder with all my apps, etc. in Macintosh HD. How do I go about re-instating my old profile?

By going through the items in the previous system folder & removing all the items that you need or want.
Use Software Update to update your system. When you are satisfied that your computer is working correctly, delete the previous system folder & empty the trash.

  • How can i restore a Previous session if someone has just opened the Firefox browser and closed it bfore I got on the same computer?

I had 2 lots of windows with multiple tabs thatI wanted to re-open the next timethe computer was on, but someone else was on the computer and opened firefox and now i can't restore my previous session of tabs in the 2 windows.

hello, can you go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information'', click on ''profile folder/show folder'' and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there create a backup of all files starting with '''sessionstore'''. then inspect them and see if their modified date would match the session you're trying to restore, in which case you might paste the content of the file into a site like https://firefox-session-restore.herokuapp.com/
otherwise i fear you'll have to reconstruct those sites through your history ...

No. I tried it on my Time Machine (I had just made one change today, so I knew I would not be left in the lurch if I failed) and when I clicked on restore I got this message:
It seems you have several options.  I chose 'Keep Both'.  I suggest that you proceed with your search.

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • I can't restore a previous session (it instead recovers the session before) of my Tabs and my home page keeps being reset to firefox

    Hi,
Over the last few days (since i updated to the newest version of firefox) i've been having problems. I usually keep open quite a few tabs that are invaluable to me that I need, they contain vital information i've been needing for research and I can't afford to keep losing them!. I'm used to exiting firefox when i turn off my computer and them saving for my next session when I open firefox back up. For some reason now, if i turn off my computer, when i turn on again and go into firefox to restore my previous session. it will restore the session prior to my previous session but not my previous session.
My default setting was to resume the Firefox session from where it was when I last exited Firefox that I set. The settings are all the same as they was before I updated firefox and I had this problem, so it is set to remember my history. I'm really not that tech savvy so i really don't know if it was teh update that caused it but it seems around the same time. Also, every single time. it sets my home page to firefox (it is usually google)) it will only remain google if i change it back and remain for the day until i restart my computer.
I'd be most grateful to any hint that might solve this problem. Thank you for your attention. I really appreciate the input! thanks everyone in advance!
    Details:
I have windows 7 64 bit home premium
    Latest version of firefox

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • How can I restore my previous iTunes library?

I placed the iTunes library file in an external hard drive and had the folders containing the usic in different locations (pc hard drive and two external HD). But then some months ago the compueter from which I were running iTunes crash down ans subsequently I had to replace its hard disc though I managed to keep all the folders wwith my music. Now my question is: how can I do to restore my previous library? Since I have a really big amont of albums, I had them distributed in different devices (5 iPods + 1 iPhone) so I think it is nit possible to get the whole library back form one single of the devices. Thank you for your help.

Pedro, I haven’t had a need to do this myself, but here is a link that describes different methods to consolidate multiple itunes libraries: http://ipod.about.com/od/restoreandreformatipod/tp/Consolidate-Itunes-Library-Fr om-Many-Pcs-To-One.htm
Also, here is something on recreating a itunes library from the xml file. http://fixmyapple.com/troubleshooting-guides/how-to-re-create-your-itunes-librar y/. You should have the xml if you backed up the itunes folder before the crash.

There is this offer of a trial version FC Pro X with 30 day runtime:
    http://www.apple.com/final-cut-pro/trial/
Too bad you didn't have a complete backup that could run the previous OS X
and then you could resume using an earlier Final Cut Pro (10) or (7) since a
clone would have been a means toward that position.
    http://www.apple.com/support/finalcutpro/
    http://www.apple.com/support/pro-apps/
This appears to be another good reason to check out all the reasons why one
would want or need to upgrade a working OS X version, since these kinds of
events are known to happen as a direct result.
Sorry to not have an answer to this, other than try & use the Trial version...
Or see if someone at Apple sales/support can field your issue w/ an answer.
    Good luck & happy computing!
