Can I restore an iTunes playlist?

I inadvertently deleted my iTunes "Purchased" playlist. I would simply create a smart list based on dates but I have several years worth of purchases in the "Purchased" playlist that I have tweaked over the years.
Is there a way to restore iTunes playlists without restoring the whole iTunes database?

I figured it out. I created a smart list with "Purchased" equals "true". Then I purchased something on iTunes which gave me a new green Purchased folder. I selected everything in the smart list and moved them to the green purchased folder.

I don't know what's up with the translation window thing appearing.  Anyway...
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

how can i restore my itunes library so i can get back playlists i accidently deleted

    Hey Russfromchicago,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to move content from your iOS device to the computer. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
If you purchased items from the iTunes Store and you've stored them on only your iOS device or iPod, you can transfer them to any computer that is authorized with your Apple ID.

  • How can I restore my itunes on a new computer from an external hard drive without a back up?

How can I restore my itunes on a new computer?
I use an external hard drive to store all my information i.e. music / apps / movies but my current laptop has just blown up so now using a temp laptop.
I am looking to try & restore my itunes & all of its information like my playlists / apps & everything else from the hard drive but it does not have a back up in the programmes to restore from that.
    Currently running Windows 7.
All I want to do is have my itunes back without the pain of looking & reloading all my info which will take me an age.
Any hints tips or advice that has worked for you would be greatly appreciated.

Did you store the media library files on the external drive as well?
If so press and hold down shift as you start iTunes, use the choose option, and connect to the iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive.
If not you will need to start a new library and import the content into it. Do you have any devices that might hold ratings and playlists that could be recovered? If so see the second and third entries from the bottom of the table of recovery tools in Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device, and read the rest of it if you have any iOS devices.

  • Can I restore my iTunes library file (iTunes Library.itl) from my iOS device?

After upgrading iTunes to 12.1.1.4 (around 2/25/2015), my library has reverted to a version from 12/28/2013.
None of the "Previous iTunes Libraries" or .tmp files are newer than the 12/28/2013 version.
All of the media files are perfectly fine and in their normal location.
Can I restore my "iTunes Library.itl" file from my iOS device?

I suspect you have been attempting to access the previous libraries in a way which always shows you the same content. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for advice.
Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You can import any missing media from the media folder into the library. There are some scripts mentioned towards the end of the recovery tools section that can rebuild ratings, play counts and playlists.

  • I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get new computer.  My library is still there and the playlists show and I can even add to my playlists. But as soon as it goes to sync it says it can't find all the songs that used to be there.

I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get a new computer.  They all appear in my library and show in my playlists.  I can even download new songs from the itunes store to those playlists but when it syncs only the new songs go on the ipod.  It says it can't find any of my "old" songs and puts an exclamation mark beside them.  I am clueless when it comes to these things.  Advice please!  We have three ipods on this account trying to figure it out.

You can only sync to one computer.
You would have to transfer purchases, but the apple ID would need to be the same.
Or find a 3rd party app to transfer content.

  • HOW CAN I RESTORE MY ITUNES BACKUP FROM MY MAC BOOK TO MY DESKTOP MAC?

HOW CAN I RESTORE MY ITUNES IPHONE BACKUP FROM MY MAC BOOK TO MY DESKTOP MAC? THE REASON IS BECAUSE I HAVE TEXTFREE TEXT MESSAGES THAT I NEED FOR MY ATTORNEY AND WHEN I RESTORE IT FROM MY MACBOOK IT DOESNT INSTALL THE TEXTFREE BECAUSE I HAD DELETED ALL MY APPS IN ITUNES FROM IT. I HAVE ALL THE APPS ON MY DESKTOP MAC BUT I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO EXTRACT ONLY THE BACKUPS FROM THE MACBOOK AND IMPORT TO MY MAC DESKTOP. THE DESKTOP MAC IS THE ONE THAT HAS ALL OF MY LATEST BACKUPS. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWER. THANKYOU

Easy. Copy it from the old Mac to the new one.
There are a variety of techniques including Setup Assistant (as soon as you get your new MacBook Air, it will ask you if you want to transfer information from another computer), Migration Assistant (if you elect to transfer information later), enabling file sharing between the two computers, or copying your music to a flash drive or other storage device followed by importing it to iTunes.
iTunes: How to move your music from one computer to another
Once your music library and everything else you want to transfer from the MacBook Pro resides on the new MBA, sync your iPod to the MBA. Sync the iPhone too when you get it, and they will both have identical iTunes music libraries.

  • My phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

I attempted to update to iOS 8 and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

    Hi, kformagg
I would say yes. I once had the same problem (iPhone 5, IOS 7) and first restored to factory settings and after that from iCloud backup.
    It worked very well.

  • My mac hard drive crashed. Can I restore my iTunes library from my iPod to my new hard drive?

My mac hard drive crashed, and had to be replaced. Can I restore my iTunes library from my iPod to my new hard drive? About 2500 songs, some from iTunes store, most from other online sources or my own CDs.

To restore non-purchased music on the iTunes Store to iTunes from the iPod, you need a third-party application as Senuti > http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ You can use others, but this has worked perfectly for me

  • I put parent control on my sons apps so he cant download 17  apps, but I just found out if he restores his phone in itunes he can download an app then go back and back it up. Is there a way I can black restore on Itunes?

I put Parents Control on my sons apps so he cant download 17+ apps, but I just found out if he goes on itunes he can restore his phone to orginal settings which wont have parent control on it. Then when ever he wants he cant backup his phone so it looks like nothing ever happened. Is there a way I can bloack restore on itunes?

You can't block restoring in iTunes, but any restrictions you put on the phone are included in the iPhone backup, thus if your son restores from backup, he will restore any restrictions you put on the phone. His only choice, to completely remove restrictions, is to restore as a new device. You can also set parental controls in iTunes: iTunes>Preferences>Parental.

i have a classic that seems to be stuck in restore mode, the screen says "do not disconnect'' and i can't restore using itunes. i have tried resetting it and still no good, what can i do to fix this problem ?

Be good to know what the diagnostic results are.
I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...
