Can I restore another database's datafile to this database?

I have 2 database(both of them are same version Oracle10g 10.2.0.1) db10g and sdb10g. Now I lose the read-only datafile '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/db10g/example01.dbf' on the database db10g and no any backup of this file. I want to copy the datafile '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/sdb10g/example01.dbf' (another database sdb10g's datafile) to the corresponding place of database db10g and perform a recovery. Is it possible?

Can I restore a database from a backup that is of older version of SAP B1?

Hi folks,
I had this backup done about two years ago as a template for any new database that I wanted to create. Recently, my SAP B1 had been upgraded to a newer version. As a result, when I was trying to restore from the backup file that was created two years ago, it does not allow me to do so. Any idea how to work around this or is there any alternative I can have? Please help.

SQL never block you ,you can restore backup with proper user authorization(You can not restore SQL 2008 backup in SQL 2005 ).
and whenever you want to login in SAP then first you upgrade the database then you will login.
in which version you want work in SAP ?

The files were all stored locally on the Web/App server, so the SAP note doesn't really help much.
Anyway, I ended up taking the long way round:
Manually restored the AppSet, AppSetExtra and OLAP databases
Re-pointed the OLAP data source to the new server name
Manually added the AppSet details to the AppServer database and added the Admin account to the AppSetAccess table
Logged in to BPC Admin and processed security, followed by a full process of all Dims/Apps.
That seems to have sorted it out.
Dont' know why, but I've never had any luck in using the built-in backup/restore for BPC appsets.

Can I restore a database on a development server but leave the existing security in place?

So I want to periodically refresh a development server with the backups from a production server for multiple databases. I can grab the backup file(s) from disk, copy them down and perform the restore through T-SQL. No problem...except the
logins use different passwords between the two servers. What is a good way to handle this?

Can I restore the database (clone) to different Host/User account?

Hi,
We use RMAN catalog that backup our production database using "oracle" user (OS user is "oracle") account. We wanted to clone this database to different host and to different OS user (for example is "oradev") account. Both user has same group (oradba). Can I able to restore the control fies/data files to different user account (the account that wasn't backed up).
Please update if you know of any documents/pdfs/links that explains this detail.

Yes, the user account should be transparent assuming the backuppieces have the appropriate user/group permissions.

Can not restore user database

ASE 12.5 on CentOS:
there is a master, mydb,
1. Restore mydb and everything is fine. but check system data is very slow. mydb is fine.
2. then shutdown and start in single user mode
3. then restore master
4. shutdown and restart ASE in normal
5. then mydb is in suspended.
6. try to reload mydb, it is not allow me to do it.
the message is:
Database 'mydb' cannot be opened. An earlier attempt at recovery marked it
'suspect'. Check the SQL Server errorlog for information as to the cause.
go the errorlog, actually there is no information for it
7. then try dbcc dbrepair:
1> dbcc dbrepair(mydb, ltmignore)

Why did you restore the master database? [This is not a normal step to take in recovering a user database.]
I've got no idea what you mean by 'system data is very slow' ... ???
The mydb database was probably marked suspect as a result of your restoration of the master database (eg, you used a wrong, or old/out-of-date, master db dump file), but to know for sure would require going back through the dataserver errorlog to look for details at the point where the mydb database was marked as suspect.
As for what to do to recover your mydb database ... it's probably easiest to just follow the same instructions provided in one of your earlier threads where this same topic was discussed/resolved.

I can't restore my iPod: Haven't seen this on any of the forums!!

I will try to make this brief to save time.
I connected my 4G iPod Photo.
iTunes started up.
Got the "corrupt iPod" message.
Clicked "Restore".
Connected to charger to complete the restore.
Restore completed fine.
Connected the iPod again.
iTunes started up.
Got the "corrupt iPod" message again.
I have done every possible troubleshooting step, both here on the Apple site and on the wonderful WWW.
NOW, here is the issue I have, that I haven't seen anywhere else...please read and understand this part!
- When I plug the iPod into the computer, I hear the USB connection sound.
- I check My Computer and there it is; Drive E: IPOD
- I go to iTunes Help > Diagnostics > iPod, and the green dot is there.
- I check the Diagnostics report, it shows my iPod is "truly mounted", has the correct serial number, correct iPod software version etc etc
- Here's the kicker: After all this, the iPod does NOT show up in the pane on the left side of iTunes!! I have uninstalled then reinstalled iTunes, I have version 7.1
- I cannot restore it again, because it doesn't show up for me to restore! But the Diagnostics in iTunes say it is there and mounted. I also cannot format it in My Computer...I click 'Format' and nothing happens. So I am stuck in a loop.

The new one has to be same or newer model than the old iPod
First just set the iPod up as new.
Then update the iPod by going to Settings>General>Software Update
After upodated go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting. \When done setup by restoring from iCloud backup

Setup a typical HP AirPrint Printer
1. Insert the CD into the CD drive of the computer, and then wait a few seconds for the software installer to start.
2. Accept the installation agreements, and then click Next . It might take several minutes for your computer to install the printer software.
3. You will be asked to connect printer to computer with USB cable
4. You will be ask how you want to connect to printer, select Network (Ethernet/Wireless) and then click Next.
5. Setup will access computer and router for wireless settings.
6. Setup will ask if you want to use wireless settings (SSID and Password) to setup printer. Select Yes and press Next.
7. Setup will then send wireless settings to printer.
8. Once printer is setup, you will be ask to remove USB cable.
9. The printer is now ready for AirPrint.

}Basically, is is supposed to be a side bar where when you mouse over the buttons, the div'sbackground image changes.
In Mozilla this works fine. In IE, exactly as written, only the first and the last images will have the change in image.
1) Only the <div class="areasidebaritem"> does not work, the other two do.
2) If I move the style for .areasidebaritem#moused to an external CSS, then it works. I cut and paste it from the external css into my JSP and it no longer does.
3) The javascript involved is fine: alerts placed around show correct ids before and after the event is fired.
4) No style inside the areasidebaritem#moused definition will be changed (as long as the style sheet is included in the .jsp file, if it is inside an external .css everything works). The .areastylesheet styles (class without the id) work correctly.
5) If I change the <div>'s class to defaultsidebaritem it works fine.
6) If I change the <div>'s class to anything else (like asidebaritem) and update the css involved to include those classes, it still won't work
It can't be a missing image problem, because as I have it now, defaultsidebaritem and areasidebaritem use the same images.
Any clue as to why IE might be screwing around here? I am just about ready to include a caption saying "IE users will be missing some functionality" or some such... because I honestly do not see why the middle button won't work :-(

Observations after some fiddling with it:
- only the first #moused declaration in the style block seems to work
- If you swap the order of the declarations, the other one works.
- If you declare a new style block, and put the second rule in there, it works
- If you use a different id eg #moused2 it also works.
I would probably put it in the category of browser bug.

Restore a database in a new instance with different name

Hello, I need restore a database in a different server. I have a backup of 01-Jan-2008 on tape on DataProtector and I need to restore in another server in order to extract some information for a datawarehouse, I need restore with a name different because on that server we have a standby database. The both servers are HP ia64 and have Unix. I have installed Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 EE. I read the Oracle RMAN Advanced but the process is for duplicate the database, I need restore a backup from 01-Jan-2008. Can you help me please. What steps should I run. Thanks for your answer.

Can you check on the target if the backup pieces are still registered in the controlfile?

If no information is available:
1) "I can't use the same name for the database." -> excludes a restore/recover on the standby server.
2) "how can I restore the database whitout catalog in other server" -> excludes a duplication to new name.
If you want to keep it simple find a third HP ia64 machine where you can mirror your production environment and restore the complete backup set and recover the database keeping the name of the target.

Satellite L300D-13S - How can i restore with corrupt disk 2

The laptop is a Satellite L300D-13s.
I tried to restore the laptop using the restore disks, the first disk worked fine but it did not recognize the second disk. No matter what I did I could not get it to read this disk.
I then tried to us the F8 option to restore the drive but I got the message Bootmgr missing. I have tried F8 using the DVD but this does not have a restore option.
Using the boot option with logging I did manage to access the E drive and view the HDDRecovery directory but could not find anything that would allow me to run a restore.
Is there an option to do a restore this way, or can I restore another way?
Your help would be gratefully appreciated.

Recovering procedure can be done on two ways:
-Using recovery CD/DVDs or
-Starting recovery procedure from HDD
If there is problem with created discs then you must try to use option two. It works as follow:
-Start your notebook and press F8 to enter Advanced Boot Options
-There you will see option Repair my computer
-Choose this option and follow menu on the screen.
-Then you will come across System Recovery options
-The last option is Toshiba recovery procedure. Choose it and follow menu on the screen.
Please note: this will work if you didnt change partition structure, installed own OS or removed HDDRecovery folder.
At the end I must say, if nothing helps and if you are not able to install OS using any of these methods I see one solution only: you must order new recovery DVD.

Dear Raghu,
1st Step : Copy the mdf file and logfile ie., _log.ldf of the source db
2nd step : Create a new db in sql by new name eg. abc
3rd Step : Right click that new db named abc and choose task and bring offline
4th step : rename the backup of the source file as abc.mdf and log file as abc_log.ldf
5th step : Copy this 2 files in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data
6th step : bring the db to online
7th step now you can open SAP there you can the new company created as abc
