Use iCloud to backup the iPad. Many users don't use their iPads with iTunes at all anymore. Personally, I would never rely only on iCloud, but I would guess that millions of iOS users are now using only iCloud and not backing up with iTunes at all.

Apparently those apps and their data were not in the backup file that you used to setup your new iPad.
If you still have the old iPad you could take a new backup and restore your new iPad from this new backup.
If this is not possible you can still download the apps from the App Store at no charge but you will have to start over on these games.

I just bought a new iPad Air and discovered that I can't sync to my iMac (Leopard).
I was going to upgrade to Snow Leopard but could not as I don't have enough space (2 GB).

Hi! I really need some help. I got my new Ipad air today and was so excited..but it will not activate. I can't redial the password to my wifi, and I can't go back to activate with itunes.. What to do? any ideas?

Try a reset first: Press and hold both Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.

Yes - it is not a problem. Tell your friend to back up the old iPad and sync with iTunes one last time before restoring the new iPad from the backup.
When he connects the new iPad to iTunes - he should be given the opportunity by iTunes to restore from that backup. Say yes to that and then sync with iTunes as well.
You don't need to use iCloud. I didn't when I set my new iPad up.

Tom, thanks for your quick reply. I'm a commerical photographer using Canon 5D mk2's mostly and have in the past just downloaded images to a mac book for backup. I really liked the compact size of the Ipad and just got the retina model with the camera connection kit and seem to be hearing that CF readers can't be used with it b/c they draw too much power. Seems like I remember reading I could use a cord that might have come with my cameras to download directly to the Ipad. I haven't tried it yet as I can't find the connection but then you just said it can't be done?
   I'm COMPLETLY lost as to your "first pluging in a flash drive to my computer, advice. Do you mean Ipad when you say computer? "then put your movie/photo files into the folder." HOW????????
     Then plug it into the Ipad??????     TOTALLY lost.
Also your saying just "do a google search for a reader doesn't work b/c NONE are able to work with the newer Ipads b/c they use TOO much power or so everyone says everyone that have tried.

I Want to transfer items, including * especially* an in-progress game to a new iPAd air from an existing ipad2 without losing progress. I have updated to the cloud. Do I have to restore the old ipad2 first, before I begin with the "hello" screen on the new iPad Air? There is no way that I know of to speed up the download. Restoring from an iCloud backup will take as long as it takes in order to download all of your iPads contents. You commited to iCloud and now you have to wait until everything finishes downloading.
This relies on your WiFi connection speed, so unless you can speed that up, you just have to wait.

Can I restore a new hard drive from a previous time machine back-up?

My MacBook Pro 13 inch is 4 years old.
The computer began to freeze/stop working, so I took it to an Apple care centre and they informed that my hard drive has crashed and has to be replaced.
Luckily, I backed up my old hard drive a few days before with an external hard drive using Time Machine. My question is: can I restore this new hard drive with my old time machine backup that is on my external hard drive? If so, how do I do this?

After a little more searching across various online resources I was able to cure it by holding down the home button and the on/off button for 10 seconds to restart it and it all came back with a clear screen.
