Only a full restore is possible.
However, there are some computer applications which can extract information from a backup file.

Hi Guys,
had a look through the older threads but unable to find the right answer which applies in my case.
1) Over 2 months ago I have performed a full backup of my iphone 4s using iTunes 10 (photos included)
2) My phone now has 2000 photos on it, but I want the other 1000 or so photos from the old backup.
3) I don't want to restore my phone to be what it was 2 months ago. I'd like only the 1000 photos to come accross to my phone, so in total i have all 3000 photos on the phone.
Can it be done by a novice? Any step by step instructions which someone can provide to me?

I have been experiencing problems with My Photo Stream as well. What I ultimately did was create a NEW photo stream by doing the following:
1. Select a picture from iPad/iPhone and click the "Share" button.
2. Select Photo Stream.
3. Select New Photo Stream.
4. Give your New Photo Stream a name (I called mine "Missing Photos").
5. Tap "Next".
6. Add any comments (optional) and then tap "Post".
After Step 6... PRESTO! I could see this new stream on both my iPhone 5 and iPad. Only problem is now I have the luxury to skim through my photos and see which photos are on iPad but not iPhone and vice versa.
However, days later, I happened to know a software named iPhone Data Recovery, which is enable to recover deleted photos from iPhone for us. It really works. If you find the above steps a little confused, you can have a try of it.

I need to restore an iTunes backup to recover accidentally deleted Notes on my iPhone 4S. My last backup was nearly a year ago so I don't want to restore the entire backup (contacts, settings, etc.). Is there a way to restore the Notes portion only? Alternatively, is it possible to backup my iPhone now and save it as a separate backup file so that I can restore the older backup, email the Notes to myself, then restore to the new backup?

You can't restore just notes, but you could back your phone up to iCloud, then restore the iTunes backup and email the notes to yourself. Then restore your phone to your iCloud backup to return it to its present state. Then you can create new notes by copying and pasting the text from the emails you sent earlier.
Don't back up to iTunes or you will overwrite the backup you are trying to restore your notes from.

Help! Can I restore pictures ONLY from an iCloud backup?

I had to do total reset / restore on my daughters iphone 4 due to something bogging it down. I backed up to iTunes and to iCloud. The phone works great, like brand new now that it's without all the apps and other garbage she had on there. I would like to only restore her pictures (I've already restored the contacts somehow) I do not want to restore all the previous settings and taking the chance of bogging the phone down again. No, when you restore from a back up it will bring the information in that back up onto your device. There is no picking and choosing unless you manually move information onto your device.
Is what I would recommend doing is to restore from the back up, import the pictures/videos onto a computer, then restore the device and set up as new then move the pics back onto the phone.
The reason the contacts are back is because Contacts, calendars, bookmarks, notess and some other stuff are not stored within the back up. For instance, I could hand you a brand new phone with nothing on it and you could sign into Settings > iCloud on your device and it would automatically bring that information onto your device.

Why can't I stream videos from my iTunes to my appletv/ipad anymore?

I have updated all the software to the latest versions on all the devices, but recently I am unable to stream any of my videos from my iTunes library under the "computers" app. I have a MacBook Pro, appletv hd, and ipad 3, and I could only play videos on iTunes on my MacBook. Songs are also unable to play, it will play a snippet, stop then play another tiny bit, sort of like its streaming extremely slow. It won't stream hd or sd videos. I've tried resetting the modem/router, restoring the appletv, and nothing seems to work. Also, the weird thing is that i am able to stream to my xbox videos and music without any trouble, i only get the problem trying to stream to other apple products. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Dont know if i made it clear in the previous post, but it used to work with no problem, it's just recently that this has begun to be a problem. could it be the latest updates that are causing the problem? the only thing ive been doing differently is i've begun transfering my dvd collection to digital copies to stream through itunes. the digital files are ones that itunes recognizes and worked before. is it possible to have a library that is too large and slows down the streaming? i tried using airplay last night, with the same results, the loading wheel just spins forever. the AppleTV can find the itunes library, and all the files on it, but they just dont play.

My son deleted a picture of himself (he's 11) from my iPhone that he didn't want me to have. I wanted to restore it from a backup of the phone that I made last week. How do I do that?

Thanks. I'm restoring it now. All of the conditions that you mentioned were true. There were two pics that I took at the Penguins' playoff game last week that wouldn't have been on the backup. I didn't know if those would be wiped out or not so I copied them to my PC first before I started the restore. Other than that (and a ringtone but I can recreate that), everything that you mentioned was true. It's kind of a joke between my son and me -- it's just a stupid pic of him sleeping on the couch (though he claims he wasn't sleeping). He thinks it's over now that he deleted it from the phone. Joke's oh him...

Which icon on the ipad should i click on to see the app contents from my Itunes library? When I click on the music and video icons on the ipad, i can see shared items from my itunes. is there an icon i can click on in the ipad to find apps from my itunes library from my pc?

Not sure if there is a way to "un-sync" per-say... But you can factory reset your device, and then set it up with your new MB Air.
DOING A FACTORY RESET WILL WIPE ALL DATA ON YOUR PHONE!!! So make sure you have it backed up to your old computer first!
But before you do this, when you plug your Phone into your computer, I think iTunes should give you a choice to sync with your new computer. If this "dialog box" or "choice" doesn't pop up when you plug your Phone in, THEN do the factory reset.

You can just tap and hold any icon to put into Edit mode. There you can delete.
Or you can just tell iTunes not to sync it.
To remove from iTunes just click on it in list and press delete.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

OSX treats the reformatted drive as a different one; it's the same as replacing it, and the old one is no longer connected.
