Can i retain my app tabs & tab groups in new firefox window after i close one ??

Just upgraded to Firefox 5 and used the awesome features of app tabs and tab groups, but ah ! i closed my browser and when i opened it again, everything was lost. :(
How can i retain my app tabs and tab groups when i open a new browser window after closing the one in which these were created ?
Will be a great help if we can do it.

Thx for your answer.
But when I select the option to empty everything when I close Firefox I can chose what is deleted
- Cookies
- Download history
- Cache
etc...
There should be an option for pinned tabs. Especially because this tabs are not simple tabs but tabs you want to keep.
The only solution I have found so far is to keep emptying everything and to ask to Firefox to start a folder of bookmarks as my homepage (homepage <=> several URLs separated with | )
But it opens wide tabs and not small pinned ones :/
We should have the option !

Link in emails open a new Firefox window with my default home page. How do I get Firefox to open the linked web page, in an new tab, as it used to do??
This is for Win XP, FF 17.0.1, using Outlook as mail client.

Do you mean the results from a search via the Google search bar on the Navigation toolbar or the Firefox Google home page (www.google.com/firefox) ?
For the Google website you can set your preferences on the Google.com page via the [http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en Google Search settings] link at the top right.
Results Window: Open search results in a new browser window.
You need to allow cookies for Google (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to save that setting, otherwise you have to repeat it.
For the Google search bar on the Navigation toolbar you can set the pref browser.search.openintab to true on the about:config page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • Today my pinned apps, tab groups and history ALL disappeared, and my settings were changed to "Clear history when Firefox closes." How can this happen!?

I've had several pinned apps, tab groups etc that always reappeared when I closed and opened Firefox. I always had history stored without a problem.
Today I opened Firefox, and my pinned apps, tab groups, and history were all gone, and the option to Clear history when Firefox closed was checked. I did NOT do that. How could that happen? I definitely need to avoid this happening again!!
    Please help! Thanks!

If you didn't do that yourself and nobody else has used the computer then an extension may have made that change.
I see in your list that you have some Norton extensions (toolbars) installed that could cause it, but others may do this as well.

Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

    See also:
App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

You can bookmark all those tabs and place them in a folder.
    * "Bookmark This Page" and "Bookmark All Tabs" no longer show in the Bookmarks menu unless you open the Bookmarks menu via the keyboard (Alt + B).
    * "Bookmark All Tabs" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.

  • How can you have the app tabs positioned to the right of the FireFox button when maximized?

App tabs are '''normally''' positioned to the right of the FireFox button. However, when you shrink the window and then maximize again the app tabs appear below the FireFox button.
Anytime an app tab is open and you maximize, adjust window, maximize, the entire tab bar is bumped down under the FireFox button. Having just regular tabs open does not have this problem as they correctly position themselves to the right of the FireFox button when maximized.

Zero is in the middle where it says "none".

  • I copied this from your 5.0 download information: "All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again." When I opened my computer today all my apptabs from yesterday had disappeared. Why?

Your download page for 5.0 stated: All of the App Tabs you have set when you close Firefox will open as App Tabs when you start Firefox again.
I liked the convenience of using App Tabs and was disappointed to find that the ones I had set up yesterday were gone today. Am I doing something wrong?

Works fine for me, I can simulate your problem by improperly closing Firefox.
The correct way would be to close the windows you don't want and then to exit Firefox through the File ("'''Alt+F'''") menu then use '''Exit''' or '''Qui'''t depending on your system.
But '''I can simulate your problem''' by closing the good window with "X" in the upper right-corner first (the one with the app-tabs) and then close the other window by any means.
You restart Firefox and open a window, since you closed without app-tabs there are none so you just see a window with your home page.
Firefox has some things added to Firefox 4 and therefore in Firefox 5.
    # "'''Alt+S'''" (Hi'''s'''tory menu)
    # "'''Restore Previous Session'''" (that's the window without the app-tabs, but you have to this first)
    # "'''Restore Recently Closed Windows'''" -- can choose which window to reopen based on name and the mouse-over tells how many tabs. or you just use "'''Restore All Windows'''" without the guessing.
''I know you are on a Mac, and this affects Windows user more than anybody else, but it does affect other systems besides Windows, occasionally, perhaps more often now with the plugins container.''
The following may not completely eliminate having to terminate Firefox through the Windows Control Panel but it will come very close.
'''Plug-in and tasks started by Firefox may continue after attempting
to close Firefox''' The "X" in the upper right-hand corner closes the
Window (same as Ctrl+Shift+W) but even if it is the last Firefox window,
it does not necessarily close Firefox .
The only '''proper way to exit Firefox''' is to use '''Exit''' through the
File menu, not the "X" in the upper right corner of last Firefox window.
In the Firefox 4 and 5 that would be Alt+F then X

Use the '''Windows Task Manger''' to remove all running firefox.exe in the "'''Processes'''" tab of the Windows Task Manager, then restart Firefox.
If Firefox will still not start, remove the parent.lock file from the profile which is created each time Firefox is started to prevent other Firefox tasks from running, see<br>

:Use to close and restart Firefox after enabling or disabling an extension, switching to a new theme, or modifying configuration files, then you don't have to worry about delay or have to look in the Task Manager to see if Firefox is closed yet.

  • When I open a new firefox window, and click the + to open a new tab, my first page disappears - I can only seem to return to it by closing all the other tabs.

    The issue occurs like this:
    1. Open a new window
    2. Enter a URL and go to a page (any page).
    3. Click the + and open a new tab.
    4. The first tab is no longer visible in the tabs bar.
    5. I keep opening lots of other tabs and the first tab stays invisible (all the others stay visible / accessible).
    6. The only way I've found to return to the first tab is to close all my other tabs.
This doesn't always happen (i.e. I can have two firefox windows open and only one of them does it!)
I'm not sure if it's a feature or something? But it's very annoying!
    Any ideas welcomed.
    Thanks

Hi - yes I can! I hadn't noticed that little arrow before, thanks.
However I would really like to stop it hiding the first tab all the time.... Even when I navigate to the first tab using that "list all tabs" arrow, it still remains 'hidden' (i.e. I can't see a tab up the top, even when that tab is active. And when I navigate away from it to another tab, it is invisible again).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • How i can have all my opened tab when upgrade my firefox?

now i'm still using very old Firefox 3.6.12, and i want to upgrede it. I always using "save and quit" to my all opened tab when quit and not using bookmarks. total about 300+ tab opened.
i already try upgrade once and all my tab is lost. and because of that i do system restore and reintall with old one again.
how i can have all my opened tab when upgrade my firefox?
    sorry my english is mess....

I do not think anything much has changed with the Firefox system restore files and how they are handled so it may be possible to keep these and use them after an upgrade in a new version of Firefox.
It is '''very important that you backup the Firefox profile''' see
*[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
If you do that you will be able to use the open tabs again. <br />(May need to reinstall Firefox 3.6 again possibly as an additional browser) <br />
    You must
    * Put that profiles somewhere safe. NOT in the Firefox profile or program path. Your Window's Desktop is ok as a safe place.
*When needed. Only work with copies of those files. Keep the original files and folders safe.
Upgrade to the latest Firefox. Because you are going up so far from 3.6 to 27 do this by installing the new Firefox 27. Do not try using each upgrade step from 3.6 to 27.
    Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <br />These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up. <br />(That is why I asked that the profile was backed up FIRST)
You may be surprised and find Firefox still has the old tabs once it is reinstalled.
Post back with how you get on. We should be able to get access to the old tabs again.
In future I suggest you do not try to rely on keeping 300 tabs open all the time without bookmarking them. You will at some stage probably lose some or all of these tabs, or their related states and history.
    Please in future
    * Backup your profile on a regular basis.
**Once a week means you may only lose one week's open tabs.
    *Bookmark important open tabs.
    ** Bookmarks keep well.
** Open tabs do not keep well & may be lost.
    * If possible reduce the number of open tabs you use.

  • Firefox does not open a new tab when you click the plus sign button which is actually a shortcut for opening a new tab. You have to open a new firefox window in order to get a new tab. Please help. Thanks.

I didn't have this problem before with Firefox. My kids must have pressed something or clicked on something that's the open new tab button does not function anymore. No matter how you click it, it doesn't open a new tab. Even if you click on file, then go to new tab, it still doesn't open a new tab. You have to open a new firefox window in order to do multiple browsing.
Hope you can help resolve this problem.
    Sincerely,
    Ems Guillarte

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened. Checking your list of add-ons, the MyPlayCity toolbar is a version of the Ask toolbar.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • Since upgrading (FF29.0-Windows 8.0), only the active tab on any given Firefox window has the website name;other tabs have no name, only site logo. How do I fix?

I recently upgraded to Firefox 29.0 (running Windows 8.0). Since upgrading, only the active tab on any given Firefox window has the site name. All other inactive tabs generally have a site logo on the left side of the tab, but none of the other tabs have the website name. If I push Alt + Tab to cycle through the windows, the website name will then show up on each tab, but once I select a window to work in the website names disappear from the tabs again, except for the active tab. Is this a feature of the upgrade? Is there a setting to have the site names appear? I would really like to have the ability to see what site is on each tab without selecting.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Can't create app tab groups in FF5 groups window dosen't appear

when I click the tab groups arrow on the upper right of the page the group window opens but all the tiny icons are in a vertical line on the right side of the window and when I try to drag one in to the center either the cursor turns into a move window and moves the whole window or when I click on the icon it takes me to that page. I have read ALL the instructions AND watched the video and what happens in that video DOES NOT happen on my screen. I can't find any helpful info

Solution clear all tabs. Then right click on individual bookmarks or bookmark folders and select open in new tab or open. They will all appear at top of screen. Then click on arrow as before and choose tab groups . They are all in one box you then move them out of box and put like with like. I have created 3 groups.
You can create as many as you like .
When you wish to open that group click on the arrow and then choose tab groups,at that point all of your groups appear choose the one you require click on that group .
Only the sights in that group appear on the tab bar. I trust this is helpful it worked for me.

  • Can I use an app tab for groups of related sites?

    * I use several weather sites to compare or get different weather details.
    * I use various mapping programs for travel or traffic.
    * And travel sites (kayak, priceline, etc.)
I would like to have an app tab for each of these different catagories. Is that possible?

BusyMac's help page on the subject says
'You can create a single app-specific password and use it for multiple apps, such as BusyCal and BusyContacts.'
This isn't quite what you asked but I would take it as implying that you can reuse the password for other Macs. If you can't you will soon find out. You will need to write down the password and enter it each time.
