Can I reveal a photo in the Library from an Album?
If I'm looking at a photo in an Album, sometimes I want to switch back to the Library to see the photo in context with the original roll. Is there a way to highlight the photo in an Album, and then switch to Library view without having to wade through the whole Library to find the photo by date?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I've found that if you double click on the photo to enter the edit mode and then click on the library icon in the Source pane the photo of interest will then be in the top row of the library's thumbnail window.

Photosmart Essential 3.5 - Can't get all photos into the Library
I'm trying to create a CD label to print on a CD on my HP C5580 using a picture from my Library. But when I go to my Library, only pictures through 2013 are there, and not all of those are there. I've tried to add/update folders from my Pictures file on my computer but it doesn't allow me to, either because the folder is grayed out or there isn't any pictures in it. When I select the "Folder" option in the library, the recent folders show up with the number of pictures in ( ) after it, but again, I can't select the folder. I tried importing a picture from a disc and the file shows up, but with no picture. Is there a way to get those missing pictures in my library? And if not, is there any other HP software that I can create a CD label to print on a CD, on my HP C5580 printer.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Photosmart Essential 3.5 which didn't help.

View Solution.I read several other blogs and it looks like this problem has been going for several years and HP doesn't have a solution. Many on the blogs suggested trying Sure Thing Disc Labeler. So I went to their site and downloaded the 15 day free trial and it worked like a charm. I used one of their templates for designing my CD. I was able to use a current picture from my Pictures file and used it. When it came time to print, I had to select Manual to put in some of the parameters for the C5580, but it printed perfectly on the disc.
I'm planning to purchase the Sure Thing Disc Labeler 6 for $29.95, so I can fully use my HP C5580. Before you get rid of your HP C5580, try Sure Thing Disc Labeler. -

How can i attach a photo in the library to an email instead of imbedding it in the letter
I would like to take a picture from my library and send it as an attachment in a email. The only way it seems to be able to be sent is by embedding it in the letter.
Kirby has already summed it up nicely. If you really want to ensure, that the recipient will see the the image as an attachment and not as an embedded image, compress the file before you send it. Export the image version in the right size to your Desktop, then right-click (or ctrl-click) and use "fCompress ...." from the contextual menu. Drag the compressed file to the Mail icon in the Dock.
Just in case, you are sending your images to Windows users and have not come across this setting, you may want to check the Mail option in the "Edit" menu: "Always send Windows-friendly attachments". -
On Friday, October 28th I updated my iphoto 11 because I received notice from Apple that I should do so for better stability in the program. Today I opened I photo and found that although all my events show they are present and the number of photos in the library appears correct, when I click on an event to view the contents, I get a black screen. I am told there are no photos in the event. When I return to the iphoto page it again shows all my events with pictures of the photos in the event thumbnails and the number of pictures in each event. I can not actually view these photos individually. Now here's the strange part, when I select an event thumbnail and right click, I can choose to view the event as a slide show, complete with music and special effects and it will play normally. But no way can I view the event photos individually. I have one event that claims to be empty, no photos in it, yet when I click on that event all 346 pictures pop up for individual viewing, but will not play as a slide show. I am totally confused and want my iphoto put back to normal.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Sorry to hear you are having a similar problem. Last night I went to the tool bar at the top of iphoto, clicked on "File", then clicked "Browse Backups" in the drop down menu. I have an external hard drive that is set up to Time Machine. The Browse Backups opened the iphoto pages in the Time Machine. I selected a date one day ahead of the day I performed the now infamous update, and it showed my iphoto library as it had existed that day. I then clicked "Restore Library" at the bottom right corner of the Time Machine screen. Roughly 2 hours later my iphoto was back to normal. When I opened iphoto there was a message saying I need to upgrade my program to be compatible with the new version of iphoto(version 9.2.1). I clicked "Upgrade" and within seconds it had done whatever upgrading it needed to do.
The only glitch in the restoration was that it restored the library as it appeared last week, so I no longer had photos I had imported this past weekend. I simply went back to the Browse Backups in the drop down menu, when Time Machine opened I selected the page showing my pictures from this weekend and again said to Restore Library. Roughly 45 minutes later the library was restored including the most recent photos.
I am now a happy camper.

Have you had any pop up notices when you first open iphoto, that tell you you need an upgrade to be compatible with the new iphoto? If so have you clicked "upgrade"?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it doesn't your current library is damaged and needs repairing. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

It depends on the size and number of photos you are sharing around.
Nothing wrong with putting a copy of the photos on the TC if that works for you. Each person can access the photo just fine like that.
I am not saying don't.. just beware of the risks so do it prudently..
But if the library is too large, you will steal space on the TC that should be used for backups.. if all the computers in the network are backing up to it, don't use too much of the spare space.
Better to buy a firewire drive (or USB but firewire 800 are much faster) and connect it to a computer that is regularly turned on. Share that drive to the network. It will then also be backed up correctly to the TC although again be careful of the amount of files, and still keep a straight copy backup somewhere else.
I am recent convert so workflow on the Mac is not my forte.. so perhaps some of the wiser heads can also drop in and post a reply. -

My PC got a virus and I had to reinstall windows from scratch so I lost most of my music. I had a backup program that died in the middle of it so only half came back. the only place that I have all the songs is on the ipod. if I let it sinc it will loose the half that I do not have.
Any ideas on which direction I should go?If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
If at any point you get a message that your iPod is linked to another library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.

For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. Hopefully someone can help me with my question. When I try to add photos from PhotoStream into my iPhoto Library a message appears asking to view the photo in the library (as if it were already imported). When I click View it brings me to my iPhoto library but the photo(s) are not there?

How exacly are you trying to import from the Photo Stream? Dragging from the stream to the events? Ctrl-clicking or right clicking?
If "Show in Library" does not show the event, then your iPhoto Library may need repairing or rebuilding; try to run the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools, if you have not already done so. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it: Rebuild iPhoto Library Version 11:

I have two ext HDD intended to ensure I don't lose my photos( iPhoto 08). I disconnected my HDD temporarily when relocating.
I then synced my iphone and iPhoto it seems has rebuilt the library from the old copy of the library (2011. I have Time Machine but I can't restore the last 3y photos as I guess Time machine does not back up the other HDD.
Any chance of finding my treasured photos somebody?Sounds like you have another iPhoto library someplace - under no conditions would iPhoto revert a library to an older one - you just need to find and open the correct one
Depress and hold the option key, launch iPhoto and use the resulting select library to look st the libraries you have

Are you looking in the System Library folder /Library/colorSync/Profiles at the top level of your system drive?
As you probably know, your User Library is hidden since Mac OS X Lion.
You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu in the main menu bar:
Finder > Go
Then hold down to options-key ⌥, until Library appears in the drop-down menu. Select it and open the Library.
