Can I revert back to lion after mountain lion download

can I revert back to lion after mountain lion download

You actually can.  If you call in to apple and ask for lion, they will email you an app store code that can be redeemed.

  • How can I return back to OSx after installing Lion?

I'm disappointed. After installing Lion, everything is slower. The best thing I had last year was my new MacBook Pro, because everything was fast.. (sleep, opening programs, multitasking...etc) Now, everything takes forever. How can I return back to OSx?

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.

  • Can iDvd be removed and reloaded after Mountain Lion loaded ?

Can I remove iDvd from Lion operating system and then reintroduce it after Mountain Lion has been installed?

If you are upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion, nothing should happen to your iDVD installation (or any other apps you have); but, to be sure, either use the retail  install DVD method Colin mentioned (whatever version of iLife you have - iDVD is included in all of them) or have a bootable clone or Time machine backup before you upgrade (it's good practice to have one anyway).

  • Downloading Lion after Mountain Lion release.

After Mountain Lion came out, I cannot redownload OS X Lion from the App Store. How would I go about doing this? Any help is appreciated. I am on a late 2008 15 inch macbook pro core2duo with 2 gigs of ram.

Under Apple's new policy you need to call Apple Customer Support and purchase a download code to use in the Mac App Store in order to access the Lion download.  I believe it still costs about $19 US.
    Hope this helps

  • How can I revert to Snow Leopard from Mountain Lion on a 2013 iMac?

I have a brand new 27" 2.9Ghz iMac, bought a few days ago, equipped with Mountain Lion. I'm using it for recording, and at the time, my recording software and hardware are incompatible. On Snow Leopard, however, it all runs flawlessly. I know I can't simply revert to Snow Leopard, as there is some sort of firmware that blocks these types of downgrades. Can I partition the internal hardrive and install Snow Leopard and boot from that partition? I have no real use for Mt. Lion for the time being, so I wouldn't need to boot them both simultaneously or even go back and forth. I just want Snow Leopard...any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You have different problems with a Late 2012 iMac and Snow Leopard:
    1. The firmware doesn't allow you to run it.
    2. Snow Leopard isn't compatible because it hasn't got the drivers for the hardware of the iMac. Furthermore, you can only run OS X 10.8.1, 10.8.2 or 10.8.3 on a Late 2012 iMac at the moment, because older versions haven't got the drivers it needs.
    3. It's illegal.
As you can see, you can't run Snow Leopard natively. If this is a requirement, I suggest you to return your iMac and search a Mid 2011 iMac with Snow Leopard (there are some Mid 2011 iMacs that came with Snow Leopard, although most of them came with OS X Lion). If you don't find anything, buy a Mid 2010 iMac.
Another possibility is to buy Snow Leopard Server and install it on a virtual machine, but I doubt it's legal

    3. Safari cant open the page; occurs frequently while Firefox just works fine.
    4. Skype does not work (quit unexpectedly with lots of machine print), still i cant log on
    5. terminal/bash is 500% slower
    and so....
I am extremely unhappy. when, i wanted to go back to mountain lion i have noticed, i have no os cd and my app store does not show lion anymore only Mavericks. could you please help me to go back to mountain lion? i am loosing my working hour.

  • Back to lion after mountain lion using time machine backup

I have installed mountain lion 10.8.2 form the app store and i am not happy.  many of my apps seem to have dissapeared, and some games, such as the sims 3 refuse to run.  I also cannot find many of the files to uninstall and reinstall it properly, such as the files in the library folder, appear not to be there at all, even after a reinstallation.
I'm properly annoyed with mountain lion, and i would like to go back to lion.  I backed up my lion system using time machine to a usb drive.  My question is, is it possible to reinstall lion using this backup?  I have been reading a lot of conflicting information online about whether or not it changes the recovery partition back to lion or not, or even if it works at all.
Lion worked fine for me, Mountain lion doesn't, and I want it back!

    Thanks again,
It only shows one sparsebundle file (for my computer, my GFs also backsup to the same TC) and there is only one folder shown inside.
I did have some problems copying files in Finder from the mounted sparsebundle to my Documents folder because it was giving me "volume has wrong case sensitivity for backup".  However I searched for that error and found that you referred to one of your unix guys and said that I should use:
    ditto --noacl /path/to/source /path/to/target
This is working to copy the files that are there.  I know that because its in a .inProgress file something seems to have been messed up on the Time Capsule and some files maybe missing, even though i ran the backup a few times this weekend and it always said completed successfully
However the important files seem to be there and time stamps indicate yesterday's files are there and it seems everything from the last three months, so i hope i'm good
As for why it happened, i don't think i ever saw that error message before, but i have a feeling that its because i've manually stopped time machine from backing up quite a few times as i've been traveling almost three months straight and was tired of Time Machine complaining it hadn't been 'home' for a long time.
I'm really looking forward to Lion's local snapshots for the times when i'm 6-9 weeks on the road.  Of course i will follow your advise about also carrying an external hard drive since having the only two copies of files on the same hard drive is pretty scary.
    Thanks again for your help!

  • How do i update from snow leopard to lion after mountain lion has come out?

My computer isnt compatable for mountain lion and i want to get lion but it doesnt appear in the app store

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Can I revert back to Snow Leopard from Lion?

    Hey guys,
Last night i upgraded to Lion.  Have since found out my Focusrite 24 DSP audio interface wont work with Lion (No Drivers yet).... can i simply re-install Leopard from the install discs that came with my imac until such time as drivers become available for my hardware, then re-install Lion? Can this be done without clearing my entire hard-drive and starting again?
    Cheers
    Sean

If you have a complete Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard system, going back to SL is really quite easy.
Just boot from the Lion Recovery partition (option key at startup) and choose to restore from Time Machine backup. (You'll be able to see your last dated and identified SL backup, even if you'd already been using TM with Lion.) It will erase the drive for you and restore a bootable SL. No DVD required.
    Works great.
(If you don't have a complete TM backup, then you'll have to wipe the drive, install SL and updates, then use Migration Assistant to bring over your partial TM backup, ie: does not include system and apps.)
Thanks very much for this. I've just restored Snow Leopard from Time Machine, and it only took 30 mins. Worked perfectly. Now I have an OS that works properly (hooray!).
    Bob.

  • HT2478 Why does this often just revert back to the stock Mountain Lion background? Not that it's ugly or anything, its just annoying having to go back and change the settings all the time!

    Yeah, why?

    Hi Ethan,
This is a user to user forum, so there is nothing we can do to respond to your post. However, you can send feedback to Apple: Apple - Feedback and you can complete the Apple Retail Store survey: Apple Retail Store - Feedback
If you are now experiencing a "grinding noise" when you start up the Mac, then take it back to the store. Also, if you want to reproduce the original problem, then play a game at home until it occurs, then take it to the Store (don't turn it off - just close the lid). Beyond doing a diagnostics test, there is very little else they can do if you are having a problem that you cannot reproduce when they are looking at the machine. Sort of like one of those annoying squeaks or groans in car. If you cannot reproduce it at the dealer, they can't fix it....Not sure what else you would expect them to do if they have no way to see the problem occurring, and the tests come back fine....
    Cheers,

  • Retinstall back my OS X Mountain Lion after i mistake update with OS X Yosmite

how can i retinstall back my OS X Mountain Lion after i mistake update with OS X Yosmite

If you Mac originally was shipped with ML, you can try Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R) to re-install ML. Please backup your data first. Your internal disk may use CoreStorage rather than plain JHFS+ filesystem.

  • I have installed mountain lion on my early 2009 macbook (not unibody) and it is terrible, it's like owning a windows pc again (almost) What can I do? I paid for mountain lion, is there any way of giving it back and getting a refund?

I have installed mountain lion on my early 2009 macbook (not unibody) and it is terrible, it's like owning a windows pc again (almost) What can I do? I paid for mountain lion, is there any way of giving it back and getting a refund? obvisoulsy after unintalling it. I couldn't see any reason why it would be bad for my particular macbook, and it downloaded without a problem.

In what way is it terrible? Mountain Lion is pretty stable. If you are having problems, most likely they are unique to your particular system and can be fixed. If you don't like some of the new features, that does not constitute reason for a refund.
If that does not suit you, you will have to discuss a refund with Apple, as they are the only ones who can say. Note that the App Store terms do say that all sales are final, so you are not guaranteed a refund, especially since whatever problems you had are not due to defective software.

  • OSX Lion, It is slow and really lumpy/jerky Can I revert back to Snow leopard?

    Where are Apple?
Had OSXLion for a week and it is nothing like as fast as the last OS, screen changes are really slow and jerky and the whole thing feels slower. Is there anything that I can do, or can I revert back to Snow Leopard?
This is a real shame never had this type of issue with Apple before.

This is a user to user forum.  You can only revert to Snow Leopard through your backup.  You might attempt piecemeal data recovery after backing up your Lion system, and copying your e-mail folders to IMAP if they weren't stored there before.  Spotlight frequently needs to finish updating in the menu in the upper right (it will only have a search field if it is done, and say it is indexing if it is not), or some plugins may need upgrading to be Lion compatible before you upgrade to Lion.  See my FAQs*:

Apple Composite AV Cable no longer working on Ipad2 after ios8 update. I'm only getting sound no video can you revert back to ios7 or buy a cable that will work any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

The 30-pin connector on the iPhone 4 dock might not have all the connector pins to do video.
I'm 99% sure the Universal Dock does have the pins (and therefor supports video out).
