Can I revert to Windows 7 from 8 w/o reformatting?

I have got Windows 8 installed on a partition.  I think it's 8 Pro, but not positive.   I know it was the $80 upgrade for students.  Is there a way to revert back to Windows 7 without reformatting and starting over with Boot Camp Assistant?  I'd really REALLY rather not have to delete everything and transfer it back from my backup drive again, if there's any other option.....
I don't currently have a key for 7 Professional, but I'm told Microsoft does allow you to get one of those, since there have been so many that have disliked Win 8.  I've got Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on the Mac side, if that makes any difference.
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
What you can do is to start the MacBook from the Windows DVD and perform a clean install. Doing this you won't keep your applications, but you will keep your user files in the "Windows.old" folder.
As far as I know, Microsoft doesn't allow you to get a product key for Windows 7 if you don't like Windows 8, more when you have upgraded from Windows 7 and I suppose you have the product key. If you reinstall, you will be able to use Windows for 30 days without product key

  • Can a MacBook Pro stolen from me be reformatted just like Windows?

    Sorry for asking this Question - I know that there have been threads in the past with similar Question but still I'm kinda confused.
    -MacBook Pro OS X has been stolen from me
    -I have enabled my Apple ID in it
    -I called Apple Support and requested to 'Erase' the data
    Can a MacBook Pro stolen from me be reformatted just like Windows?
    -Can the thief easily reformat its hard drive just like on Windows and install a cracked Operating System?
    Thank you Guys.

    The answer is, Yes. If you enabled Find My Mac, then you could track it or erase it using your iCloud.com webpage and clicking on Find My Phone after signing in.
    What To Do If Your Mac Is Lost Or Stolen
    If you activated Find My Mac before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if it is connected to the Internet by Wi-Fi. What you cannot do is track your computer using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your computer for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty. Be sure to report the loss or theft to the local police. Have the serial number handy. If your Mac is found it cannot be returned to you if you don’t have the serial number and proof of purchase.
    Find My Mac can be used from Find My Phone at iCloud.com and via Find My Phone on your iDevice.

  • How can I open new window from a link in another window?

    Hello everyone!
    Can anyone help me with my problem. I need to open a child window from a link in the mother/master window. Actually, the link that would open the child window is directed to a servlet that retrieves data from the database. The data will then be displayed in the child window. I don't how to open a new window with the data retrieve (thru the servlet) displayed in it. I'm using model 2 architecture (Servlet-JSP).

    Or you can use something like this,
    Click and in your test()
    <script language="javascript">function test()
          document.form_name.target="_blank";
          document.form_name.action="/test/servlet/LoginServlet";
          document.form_name.method="post"
          document.form_name.submit();
    }</script>
    Here "/test" is your application context path.
    If you want to open the link in the named window then use,
    document.form_name.target="your_own_name";

  • How can I open two windows from one submit?

    Is there a way to open two browser windows from one click of a button to submit a form? I have a button on a screen that does some processing of the data and then generates a PDF file with the output. I would also like it to run a report and show the output of that in a separate window. I realize that using regular HTML with a target of "_blank" on the form, you can have the results show in a new window, but how can I launch a second window from a single button click, if possible?
    Thanks!

    It can be possible using two different popUps instead windows. Onclick on the button just make vissible true of those two popup in the event method, before making visible true, do the business operation to show on the popups. So simple :)
    Note: Popup has modal=false attribute

  • Can JavaHelp open Main Window from an HTML Topic?

    Hi all,
    I am working on opening the main window from an HTML topic. Is it possible to do? Right now, what I can do is to make a link in the html page open the secondary window with navigation pane.
    Also, can I set different textColor(param name of object tag)beside the one mentions in the JavaHelp System user's guide?
    More question. When I give the textColor as "green" which is the color I can set according to the JavaHelp System user's guide in the object tag, the help system displays different shade of green, lime. I tested this settng in IE/Firefox. It renders a default green which is what I need. How can I make the javahelp renders properly?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    thanks

    Hi Dir-t,
    There's no way to create that behavior directly in Catalyst. However, you can do it with a little HTML hacking. You'll want to use the IFRAME tag: http://www.w3schools.com/TAGS/tag_iframe.asp
    When you publish your project as a SWF, one of the files that is created is an HTML file that wraps your SWF (it's typically called Main.html). You'll want to edit that file.

  • Can't open browser window from RoboHelp AIR app??!

    We've got a RoboHelp course that we're exporting as an AIR app using the  Packager and it works great. We've got an embedded flash file that  needs to open a website in a browser window, but, currently it will only  load the site in a new AIR window...any ideas??

    I'm having this same problem also, although you gave me one option in your reply.  I can't get the "Allow" button to work either. I upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.2, and then is when I noticed I couldn't bring up the websites that I usually could before.  I don't really know what you mean about "Stand Alone Option," but I will try to find out.  I also upgraded to Internet Explorer 8, but I'm not sure if this is when the problem started or when I went to Adobe Reader 9.2.
    I used to be able to get "Allow" to work if I opened the document in IE8 and not in AR 9.2, but now that won't even work. I did email the author of a PDF document I was in today in the hopes he would have the answer, but I'm not sure if I got his email address right, so time will tell on that issue.
    I have a "library" of PDF documents, so I would really like to get this problem fixed.  However, I've spent at least two hours on this issue, and I really don't think it has anything to do with Windows Vista incompatibility; I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Adobe Reader, but that doesn't help much given I have emailed support and, of course, have never received an answer.
    I do know there are a lot of people that are having this exact same problem, but no one has an answer to it.  I've tried to do research on this, but I have a lot of "to do" tasks I need to get done every day, so it's not like I have all the time in the world to try and fix this problem.
    I would appreciate hearing from you if you do ever figure this out. My email address is [email address deleted by host] should you find an answer to this very frustrating problem. Warmly, Corinne Larimore [signature deleted by host]

  • Can I revert to Lion from Mountain Lion from Time Machine?

    I rushed and downloaded/installed Mountain Lion yesterday, but it's quite buggy for me. This is the first time that I upgrade and am having issues - for instance, the MacBook Pro crashes every time I close the MacBook to put it to sleep - when I open the lid, the system is crashed and needs to reboot. I don't like this at all. This, combined with a bunch of things that I used quite often (like sorting the Documents folder by date - not available anymore, the time left on battery indicator, Office for Mac is now buggy and I am having issues when I type in Outlook, etc), convinced me to try to revert to Lion.
    Before upgrading I backed up to Time Machine, and haven't backed up since - which means that the newest backup on Time Machine was done on Lion. I want to restore from Time Machine to go back to Lion. Will I be able to do this, or will I run in any issues? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

  • Can't open finder window from dock

    I have pinned my Applications folder to the dock, and when I click on it it automatically comes up as a grid. When I click and hold the folder it gives me four view options: Automatic (selected), List, Grid, Fan. I do not want any of these - all I want is for it to open in a finder window when I click on it. I am pretty sure I used to be able to do this in 10.1, why can I not do it in 10.5?

    There is a trick to doing this -
    In Finder, right click Applications and create an alias.
    Drag the Alias into the dock.
    That should do what you are looking to do.

  • How can i hide this window from the start bar at bottom of screen???

    Hi,
    I have created a program that will sit on my desktop all the time but i have a little problem with it.
    Well i want my application not show in the toolbar at the bottom where my START button is, like a dialog window. I am not sure if you can do this with a frame and didnt know what the toolbar at the bottom of my screen would be known as so i didnt know what to type in the search bar.:(:(.
    Well if you can help me i be most grateful.
    Thanks in advance

    o well, that dont work in my program. My programhas
    menu bars in it so JWindow dont work.I suppose a GUI trick you could do is to put put a
    JDesktopPane in the JWindow and then put a
    JInternalFrame inside that. Then have the internal
    frame maximized to fill the JWindow to look like a
    real frame.You should not be able to move the JWindow with the JInternalFrame.

    HI Dave,
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.
    ~ (Tilde) character represents your Home Folder.
    Restart your Mac.
    Hopefully that will help.

  • Lost "Reopen all windows from last session"

    Somehow, I lost the "Reopen all windows from last session" command from the History Menu in Safari 4.0.4. Tried deleting Safari and reinstalling, but no luck, so, it must be in one of the Library files, I guess. Any ideas on how I can recover this feature would be very much appreciated.

    HI,
    FYI, it's better to trouble shoot Safari rather than re-install the app.
    From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
    From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
    Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
    Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*
    Relaunch Safari.
    If nothing above helps, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If you can see: Remove All Windows From the Last Session, then that .plist file is corrupted and needs to be moved to the Trash.
