¿can I run a Final Cut 5 or 6.0.6 in a MacBook Pro i5?

Since 5.1 was the first version compatible with Intel Macs, the 5.0 version won't work.  But the 6.0 version should be fine.

    I have a MacBook Pro , Model Identifier MacBook Pro8,2 , MAC OX S 10.7.4
I noticed that if I open Final Cut Projects created on other/older models MacBook Pro Laptops or MacPro Desktops, the fonts used in the previously created FCP projects, change their font spacing! which distorts the look of the Text that was written, by oevrlapping on other things that were put & present on the screen.. Another similar probelm is that the Vector shaped used for example to highlight certain words or shapes, also change their position on the screen so that they no longer highlight exact things that we once used these vectors to highlight or outline... Anyone knows how to solve this problem please?? I made sure that the same fonts are available in the Library in both old and newer computers...
    thanks in advance..

You might want to take your question to the FCP forum - if you copied all fonts to your Library>Fonts folder and restarted they should be recognized by all applications. I know that this works for Adobe products, anyway.

  • HT5103 how many computers can I run my final cut pro x on?

I have several computers....one iMac and one Mac Book Pro that I want to run final cut pro on....do I have to have two copies?
    Mahalo,

You can run it on all the computers you own, though this does not apply to pro studios using teams of editors.
Simply copy the FCP X app to the other computers just as you would copy any other file.

  • Need Help Installing Final Cut Studio Version 2.0.1 on Macbook Pro

I am trying to install an old version of Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Studio Version 2.0.1) on my macbook pro (OS X Mountain Lion). When I tried to install it, it said, "power pc applications not supported on this computer". I was told to "uninstall" OS X on my computer, install Final Cut Studio, and reinstall OS X Mountain Lion again. Is this true? If so, how do I do this?

There is a "bug" in the installer application of Final Cut Studio Pro 2 that will fail to work in Lion or Mt. Lion; it will work successfully in Snow Leopard and a subsequent upgrade to Lion or Mt. Lion after the successful installation of FCSP2 will continue to work.
Once Mt. Lion is installed you can use one of these two methods to install FCSP2:
    1)  Pacifist
    2)  Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method:

    Coyboy,
    Welcome to the forum.
One of the great things about this very active forum is that first time users almost always are asking about well known problems. This is to your great advantage.
There is a search function located in the upper right portion of the window that works quite well. Had you typed in AGP installation error or something like that you would have hit upon dozens of threads that are all about your issue.
    For example this one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=411833&tstart=0
Come often, learn to search, read the threads, learn lots.

  • Which system for Final Cut Studio upgrade...iMac or MacBook Pro?

I am currently using FCE on a Powerbook G4 and am considering upgrading to Final Cut Studio. Which system would give me better performance: New iMac 24" (2.8 Penryn processor) or MacBook Pro (2.5 Penryn processor)? Does the NVIDIA graphics card for the iMac upgrade significantly improve editing performance.. or is the AGI 2600 Pro card sufficient? Anything else worth considering when comparing these systems?
    Any input is appreciated... thanks.

FW 400 is enough to deal with DV footage,
Not all HD formats require eSATA drives, DVCPRO HD for example can be handled by FW 400 or FW 800 drives and HDV streams pretty much the same DV does.
Things change if at some point you need to deal with Uncompressed SD or HD, ProRes etc.
    eSATA then would become mandatory.
If you'd like to set up a desktop then MacPro is what I suggest.
If you don't make a living from editing then I guess an iMac will do for a while.
A MacPro allows you to host/replace multiple internal drives, host/replace capture cards or GPUs if you need for business purposes.
Increase RAM up to 32GB etc
iMac does not offer such options.

  • Does new MacBookPro 13" (Apr2010) run all Final Cut Studio applications?

Does the new MacBookPro 13" (April 2010) run all Final Cut Studio applications, and reasonably well?
I've looked at the FCS specs, CPU, RAM and hard disc minimums are more than satisfied with the MBP 13".
Now that the 13" has a discreet Nvidia (albeit sharing memory with main RAM) graphics card, that requirement is also satisfied.
The Color app needs a screen resolution of at least 1680x1050: Is this really a hard requirement?
i.e. will the Color app exit with an error message saying not supported at this resolution or will it work but with less space for items in its user interface? For example Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 used to say minimum resolutions but I can run it on my Toshiba NB100 netbook at 1024x600 just fine. (BTW as an aside even this 200pound netbook has an eSATA port!)
Also I intend to use an external 23" 1920x1080 screen plugged into the MBP13" a lot of the time at home.
Also what about the Core 2 Duo on the 13" versus the i5 dual core hyperthreaded = 4 threads or i7 quad core = 8 threads on the new (Apr2010) 15" and 17" MBPs.
I intend to capture from solid state flash card, so dropped frames due to slow(is) internal 5400rpm non-raid hard drive capturing from real time playout of tape is not an issue.
Where would I notice the difference in speed? Where would the MBP 13" run noticeably slower compared with the new 15" and 17"?
I would expect the entry 2.4Ghz 13" Apr2010 model to run FCS/FCP reasonably well, given that people have coped with this sort of spec in the past.
As long as editing works reasonably smoothly on the 13" MPB, e.g. I can go backwards and forwards through my work, preview multiple tracks/effects (at lower resolution, if necessary - by using RTExtreme feature with ProRes422Proxy) and then leave it render to maximum high quality overnight, then I would be happy.
The smaller size of the 13" and lower cost make it more attractive to gain a more rounded cross platform skillset by entering into the Mac scene and for future opportunities requiring those skills.
The benefits buying a higher end notebook diminish against cost and increasing screen size (more to carry around), also that only the cumbersome (IMHO) 17" has ExpressCard34 for SATA input.

Thanks for your quick response and for the reassurance, my responses back...

What sorts of things did you want to work on?
    {quote}
Music videos, small projects to start with. I've come from working with Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 on Windows XP on a 30minute documentary that took 18months part and fulltime to produce with 3 staff (http://www.youtube.com/mediamotioninvision for a clip of it). I feel the next level up would be to work with what many professionals are using: Final Cut Studio, as I was told at Cannes Film Festival in 2009. So to progress my craft I want to develop the skillset of the professionals.
    {quote:title=NLEdit wrote:}
You also have to consider the i/o issue. How will you get footage in and out of the machine to an external drive and from a firewire camera if you go that route?
    {quote}
Many film/video cameras, both low end/entry level consumer prosumer and higher end professional are recording onto solid state flash memory cards, e.g. SD. So transferring from that into the notebook is straightforward. This used to be more of an issue with tape-based cameras, as the footage transfer was real time and dropped frames could occur if the host recieving notebook could not handle the amount of data be sent from the camera, e.g due to slow hard drive/bus.
That said, even though solid state media eliminates the problem of dropped frames due to real time transfer of tape, it is a profound crying shame of a misguided decision that Apple decided to omit the ExpressCard34 interface (and therefore block high-speed eSATA/RAID hard drive options) from the 'Pro' range of 13" and 15" MacBookPros and reserve it for the 17", when the equivalent Windows notebooks have this for half the price.
So I'm reluctant to invest more money in a higher spec machine 1) because of limited budget 2) but also the higher spec 15" appears to be sadly unbalanced in that there is up to quad core of processing power etc but a lacking in external interfaces i.e. maximum of FireWire 800 for connecting external drives to. More better in my view to spend just enough on a 'sketch' grade notebook, for learning on and reasonable performance and benefit from the smaller size and cost.
Playback, previewing while editing the work may be a little compromised owing to the throughput of the internal harddrive, but, from my reading, I understand that RTExtreme and ProRes422Proxy technologies can help this situation of limited hard drive bandwidth/transfer rate whereby lower bitrates are used combined with reduction in preview quality to allow smoother playback. That is acceptable to me as long as I can get a good idea of how it looks. I intend to leave it running overnight to do the final maximum high quality render.

  • I have AVI files that I need to be MOV files so that I can edit them in Final Cut Pro. I am going to use Quick Time Pro for this....do I have to 'export' it or can I just 'save as', or is there even a difference? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have AVI files that I need to convert to MOV files so that I can edit them in Final Cut Pro. I am going to use Quick Time Pro for this....When I have the files open in QT Pro do I have to 'export' it or can I just 'save as', or is there even a difference? Thanks in advance for your help!

I strongly recommend you use compressor to do the conversion (if it will open the files - since quicktime will open them, it will more than likely do it.
Compressor allows you to customize presets and save them and apply them to multiple files.  Although the interface may seem daunting, it's actually pretty simple.
Even if you can edit the avi in fcp, it's not a good idea.  Liable to cause problems down the road.

  • Can't export because of Error -50 but can't upgrade my final cut because of video card?

So I updated to mavericks later to find out you can't export in final cut pro unless you upgrade the software, my problem is that when I try to upgrade the software it says "you do not have the required graphics card"
So I'm stuck. What can I do? I Simply cannot export using any option  as I either get a compressor error -50 or nothing happens at all.
    I can't update the software. I can't export.
    APP NAP IS OFF

If the problem is with the graphics card then here is a list of compatible cards: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4664
What computer are you using? If it is an older Mac Pro 1,1 to 3,1 (early 2008) then the ATI Radeon HD 5770 should work. This is the one I've used and it has 1GB of memory. The more graphics card memory available the better. I read one account where a person had to go to 2GB of memory to avoid the spinning beachball but who knows what other resources he had tied up. For myself, I have a video-only machine and the Internet is disconnected when I'm editing and the 1GB worked perfectly fine. Oh, and with only 8 GB of RAM.
The 5770 cost $249 with free shipping about two years ago. Recommend not using a "flashed" card.
As for what to do for the interim, one suggestion would be to copy the Project to an external drive and find someone who would be willing to finish the share process. Other than that, it looks like you'll be dead in the water until the video card issue is resolved.
