Can I run Adobe CS 5 in Mavericks? Yosemite?

A friend has Adobe CS 5 on disc and would let me use it on my iMac (mid 2011) freshly running Mavericks. Will this work? Will it continue to work if I upgrade to Yosemite? Of course, my rather old software from the first Creative Suite, designed for the PowerPC era, are obsolete. I am specifically interested in Acrobat PRO, for its ability to index the PDFs in a target folder for powerful searching by anyone using Reader. Also hoping to be able to resume working in PhotoShop without paying for continuing access to the latest cloud-based Adobe model. Especialy interested in the expereince of others who have tried this. Keep in mind that Leopard (10.5) is no longer supported by Apple and has known security vulnerabilities in it. If you don't want to upgrade, you may want to unplug it from the Internet.

thanks for any suggestions. While many people have told me I can run everything on my macbook, I am concerned about what I think is a limited amount of ram that can be accessed over the virtual machine partition softwares, and I don't know if what I want to attempt is actually possible.

also, off track but, for years I have wanted a small machine that is more easily portable than my 15" machines. I have only had this used machine for a few weeks, but already I have been very satisfied and used it for presentations at clients. I don't want an air because I really want the dvd burner and player. No matter what apple says about wireless, there are decades of legacy work stored on optical discs all over the world, and I don't want to be unable to open something at a client's office because I don't have a dvd drive. Additionally, I have very large files I want to transfer via ethernet or firewire so that the transfer will take less time and be more secure than wifi. I resist apple's trend to make every machine a disposable toy that is viable only a year or so. I have read reviews that label the mbp it a poor value compared to the air. If all you need to do is text and communicate via wifi, many devices will sufice, and an air is certainly the most elegant. But what about the cost of large ssd's and protecting the drive against damage from shock? I want to be able to move this thing around and the small size is much safer inside my padded bag when I sit in narrow airplane seats, crowded trains and other congested spaces. I am much more likely to be able to borrow a large screen in a client's office ( with the use of one of the three adapters I had to buy) than to be able to borrow a dvd drive that has drivers for mac os 10.8.2. I suspect this may be the last generation of machines that have optical drives and ethernet, and that was why I purchased it so that I could continue to do work into the next few years. I am impressed by the retina display, but I need long battery life. And as beautiful as the retina display is, it is even more of a problem when trying to cross platform with the windows world. I wish I could infuence apple to do a trial product flow for a machine designed to work with 80% of the business world that uses windows. How spectacular that would be. With all their expertise and adept hardware design, to create a machine that cross platforms better than a windows machine itself works? Now that would be an accomplishment. Instead of 8 or 9 percent of the total computer sales, why not aim for a higher percentage? Smart devices will keep moving toward portable computers in power, anyway.

Fusion should work on your machine and if you put 16 GB of RAM in (see http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAM), Fusion can access a good portion of that. Also, in a Virtual Machine, the guest OS is presented with Fusion's video card emulation, not what's in hardware on your Mac. Of course, finding Windows 7 now that Win 8 has been released could take some doing and the Win 8 Pro upgrade price is supposed to jump to $200 the end of the month. Add that to the price of Fusion and the extra RAM and you're beginning to get into the realm of low end real PC's.
As to cross platform, I assume you're aware of BootCamp (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461).

I like Macbook Air 11.6 because is light and small, but I was looking comments to use this small notebook to design is not for bigest proyect. what about after effects simples proyects 30 seconds. Which OS are you using? Because there have been some issue with Win7 and PSE4. Try upgrading to PSE8.You can try the trial version of PSE8.

Can't run Adobe accessibility checker on new PC

We have new workstations with newer versions of JAWS installed and can't run the Adobe accessibility checker. The option is disabled. When JAWS is open, can't run Adobe's read out loud feature. Using Win XP Pro, JAWS 11, Designer ES (8.2) and have Acrobat 9 Pro and Reader 9 on workstations. Any ideas?

OK, I'm not sure exactly how, but I've managed to fix it.
Shortly after writing that post, I renamed the libraries on each PC, and was then able to see both on my iPhone, but still couldn't see the XP library on my Windows 7 PC.
I had done a soft reset on the wireless router earlier, but I decided to try a complete cold restart - turned off both PCs, and unplugged the power cable to my router, left all off for a few minutes, plugged the router back in, turned my old PC back on, loaded iTunes on that, then turned my new PC back on, at which point some message came on about the firewall, and then loaded iTunes. So I'm syncing now - it's worked!
I guess that's another problem solved by turning it off and back on again!

Albertos35110529 are you trying to install the Creative Cloud Desktop application or are you trying to open it? If it is already installed then you will want to open it from the Applications folder. You can find more details regarding the installation process at Help | Download, install, update, or uninstall apps.

If you are purchasing a new MBA it would be worth paying the extra $100 for 8 GB of RAM. If you are purchasing a used MBA then 4 GB of RAM meets or surpasses the minimum memory requirements listed above but should you start composing or editing more complex objects/scenes you would notice a difference.

Both Adobe software titles you reference are incorrect. Do you mean Adobe InDesgn 4? if so that has problems running in Lion. I don't know where you get your information about Final Cut pro from. You can always check that forum here:

Can't change Adobe CS5 icon in Mavericks

Yes I understand the information:
1. Candy Bar does not really work in Mavericks now. Got it.
2. LiteIcon works pretty darn well.
3. Manually themeing icons is not that hard
4. I can't change icons of apps installed from MacAppStore.
with that being said:
Its been a real issue changing Adobe's CS5 in Mavericks. If anyone could help me out with locations and file names that would be awesome. I've gone into the .app and messed around but can't get anything to change.

Since I installed yosemite I get a window to install legacy JAVA SE 6 RUNTIME and can't run ADOBE Illustrator Cs6 without it .

So anything LEGACY means it is probably not supported and chocked full of security issues.
what JAVA flavor do I need to install?
WHat do I do ?
I have a lot of work to do...

Try this:
Download Java for Mac OS X 2014-001 from http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572.
Install the Java update using the downloaded .dmg file.
When installation is complete, a Software Update dialog box appears. The dialog box asserts that Java SE 6 Runtime is required to run Adobe Illustrator CS6.
In the Software Update dialog box, click Install.
Launch Illustrator.
In Adobe Illustrator CS6 some plug-ins has dependency on Java, therefore Java is required for them to function properly.

Upgraded my I Mac to version 10.8.4 mountain lion and cannot run adobe flash. Tried uninstalling and still cannot install flash player. After initializing, I get a black box and eventually a message that installation was unsuccessful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

If it won't download directly, right click and "Save as"
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Trash the Flash Player.plugin file from there
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Flash Player folder (the whole folder)
Empty the trash
Reboot
Mount the DMG and run the installer.
BEFORE opening any Flash content in Safari, open Safari>Preferences, and check the Security tab to make sure "Allow all other plugins" is checked.

I continue to use Adobe Acrobat 6 Professional for its ability to combine documents, and insert and delete pages in PDFs. If I download and install Adobe Reader X, will it overwrite Acrobat 6 Pro, rendering it useless? I realize that 6 Pro if very old, but has all the functionality I need to create pdfs. I am only interested in upgrading the reader portion because I occasionally receive files created in later versions and would like to view them with all their newer functions.

Might work; might not. Legacy apps (CS2, 3, 4) that weren't built to run on modern operating systems may have trouble with Mavericks. I think you'll be OK with CS5, 6 and CC.
