Can I run Final Cut Pro 7 after upgrading to OS Mavericks?
I have not upgraded in a while (10.7.5), but have heard that FCP 7 crashes with other upgrades.
I'm assuming such is the case here, but I would like confirmation one way or the other.
My FCP also crashes while transcoding under MAVERICS.

Could I run Final Cut Pro 10.1.3 on Mavericks DP 2
Could I run Final Cut Pro 10.1.3 on Mavericks DP 2
Curiously, this picture I can see :-)
The dialog is quite normal. It just means what it says, namely, there is not enough extra media at the edges of the clips (so called "handles") to be used for the transition, so FCP X needs to shorten some of those clips to create the handles - thus the total length of your timeline will decrease.
But the fact that the transition appears as black in the browser, and that it is not applied, show that there is definitely something wrong.
Since these default transitions are installed as part of the application itself, I believe the best course of action is to delete FCP X (use FCS Remover to completely remove all traces of the application), and then install afresh from the purchases section of the App Store. -
I'm running OS X, but I can't run Final Cut Pro 1.0 and appropriate upgrade
I recently purchased a Macbook with OS 10.4.6 on it. I have Final Cut Pro 3, but I can only install it via FCP1 and upgrade to FCP2 and finally to FCP3. However, when I try to install 1.0, it says that this system cannot support it. I can't seem to figure out how to run Classic mode either.
So, my question is, what are my options to run this software? (I really do not want to purchase the newest software.) Also, I know someone who has FCP3 full version (not an upgrade); would it be possible to install this software and use one of the serial numbers from one of my other software disks? Any help would be great.
Thanks!FCE is more limited but depending on your needs it might be fine
check out http://www.apple.com/finalcut
why do you feel you need to download an upgrade
after FCP 4 (3-4 years ago) you no longer needed an older version installed just the serial number as they discovered the problem that you are running into now

Can't open Final Cut Pro after the migration
I bought a new iMac (21.5 inch: 3.2 GHz) and migrated all the files from my old iMac, which I brought in 2006 or so. When I tried to open Final Cut Pro (Version 5.0.4), an error message shows up and says "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly" and I can't even open the application. Here are the details. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Thanks.

Never migrate a pro app.
In your case the underlying issue is v5 is not compatible with intel processors
The solution is to purchase the upgrade to the current version, erase your hard drive and install the system and pro apps fresh from the disks

Can I run Final Cut Pro 7 with Mountain Lion?
I just bought a new Mac mini equipped with Mountain Lion, and discovered that it won't run Final Cut Express, so I wonder if FCP-7 works. I know it well, and am not eager to learn a whole new system with FCP-X.
The answer is generally yes, but here is a thread that dives deep into ithe question and which you might want to read.
Good luck.

Can I run Final Cut Pro X on the most basic Mac Mini?
The Spec sheet: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/ it says "Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better." I'm not sure whether what comes with the standard Mac Mini is same / better or worse.
http://store.apple.com/uk-edu/browse/home/shop_mac/family/mac_mini/select.
Thanks,
My 5 y/o Macbook is on it's last legs I think and really need something decent for video editing. I don't do millions but can't even install FCP on my current Mac and even iMovie takes about 3 days to even open on it. (I've upgraded RAM, HD and OS till Lion). You can find out for yourself by downloading the free 30 day trial.
http://www.apple.com/uk/finalcutpro/trial/
Sorry, I didn't realise at first that you hadn't yet got a Mini.
FCP X should work perfectly on all current Macs.
However, the ideal one would be an iMac if you can stretch to that.

Can I run Final Cut Pro on a Macbook?
Hello,
Can somebody tell me if it is possible to run FCP on the new Macbook 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo laptops?
Are there any reported problems?
Thanks
EvanssentIt is possible but not recommended. The FCS specs are here.
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
Color and Motion won't even open but using FCP has been done. It depends on what kind of footage you plan on using. If you want to do HD you will have problems. SD should be okay. -
Can't run Final Cut Pro 4.1 on new 2.3 dual core G5
When trying to start up FCP 4.1 on my new Mac it gives me the following error:
"Configuration Error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
AGP graphics card."
Does this mean that FCP 4.1 doesn't support the new processors?Wow. I'm impressed.
There is no such thing as FCP 4.2. It went from FCP 4.1 to FCP 4.5. In fact, going to FCP 45. is a free upgrade. Open your SOFTWARE UPDATE System Preference and it should be there. Or look for it on Apple's site. S
See if upgrading to 4.5 doesn't help.
This computer is too new for us to really know anything. Because again, we are users of the software, much like yourself...and not Apple employees. -
Is mac book pro good enough to run final cut and after effects?
is mac book pro good enough to run final cut and after effects?
Yes it is. I have two at my office working fine.
Just note. FCP has already delivered the universal binary so you won;t have any trouble. For After Effects, Adobe has not released the binary yet so the worst that will happen is that you might have a little delay opening the application. We are a professional media organization and we can rely on our intel based macs. Don't worry. -
I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
"Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
* AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
Thank you,
DougThis is my first mac in a long time so i'm not sure about what this mac is as i didn't buy this from apple (ala Amazon). I'm a tad confused about the Intel/PowerPC thing. I do know the software version for sure, but the Intel/PowerPC is very confusing. I just need to find someone who would know about this question. It doesn't say G5 on this computer. Thats my biggest confusion. Help Me...

Can my MacBook Pro run Final Cut Pro X fine?
Hi,
I was wondering if I can run Final Cut Pro X fine in my mid-2010 MacBook Pro? I am looking to get the software simetime this year. The specs are in my signature (the GPU is an nvidia 330m with 256mb of VRAM).
Has anyone run FCPX in the Core i5 mid-2010 MacBook Pros? If so, hows the experience in terms of performance?
Many thanks! You should be OK with an i5 machine but there seem to be many variables in how well each machine works. here's a thread you should look at:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3726332?tstart=0
Also, if you go to the app store and look on the FCX page you will find the specs. -
Preparing my MBP to run Final Cut Pro
Hello,
Apologies if this question has been answered, I've searched for over an hour but can't find what I'm specifically looking for.
I would like to know what I need to upgrade / increase / expand on my MBP, in order to run Final Cut Pro and work with XDCAM and HDV source material.
Currently:
2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.
2 Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, 256 Mb VRAM
From my research I think that I at least need to increase the RAM and get a big external hard disk to store the material.
Is there anything else I need to do?
I expect many people will say, buy a Mac Pro but we just don't have the budget! If it takes a long time to render then we just have to live with that.
Any advice much appreciated. As for DIY I can not give you advise, I live in Europe but buying ram at the Apple store is maybe not the budget way.
I usually look here to install things yourself
http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/installation.cfm
There are for sure other/better sites but with the MBP installing extra ram is easy,
A 1TB will be more then enough, I would go myself for 2x500 GB firewire, this gives the option that when a job is finished and you don't need the media anymore you can sweep one of the drives completely.
Just my 2 cents -
What's the best Mac for running Final Cut Pro X?
Title says it all. What's the best Mac for running Final Cut Pro X? I'm not looking to make a feature length hollywood film. But I'd like to be able to edit video without lag.
Yes. Begin with the fastest processor / graphics card / and as much RAM as you can afford. (As all three will become obsolete over time.)
I started from scratch. I have a 27-inch iMac with a 3.4 G Intel Core i7. (currently the fastest processor for an iMac) I also ordered the best graphics card--AMD Ratheon HD. I ordered 16G of RAM, but recently added more RAM to equal 24G. (OWC makes good after-market RAM for iMACs.)
Last, I ordered a flash drive / SATA hard drive combo. (250G on flash / ITB on SATA). The OS and all of my applications run off the flash drive. (for fast start up!)
I put all of my media and FCP projects onto the SATA hard drive.
Now, I had the option to order a 2TB SATA. But, I realized I can always buy more external storage as I edit more and more projects. ALSO! FCPX is GREAT when it comes to editing projects on external drives! I can segregate an entire project and its media files onto a removeable drive. I simply launch FCPX, plug in the drive and--poof!--I'm ready to edit. It sees the project and the media right away. When I'm done editing, I can then send this drive to another editor (also using FCPX) or attach it to my MacBook if I want to edit the same project in the field.
This has worked for me. I wish you luck. -
What kind of graphics card should i get to run final cut pro x on my 2008 mac pro?
What kind of graphics card should i get to run final cut pro x on my 2008 mac pro?
Hello Andres. I own an Early Mac Pro 2008, and have had the blessing of using both FCP X & Motion 5 for some time now. This is a pritty open question and it depends on your usage and the throughput nessesary to handle your work load. I can share what my set up is, & it may help you deside if this is enough power for you or help you move in another direction. Keep in mind that the buss speed and cpu are a big part of helping FCP X more so than the video card, although the video card does come into play here as well. Now if you are wanting to run Motion 5 as well, the video card is Almost Everything, and you need the biggest and best situation here that the throughput on this system will except. I'm running 14 gig of system ram, and the video card is an ATI Radeon 5870. For FCP X, running 1920x1280p footage optimised in pro-res 422, she can move along with some render time nessesary when dropping on the timeline, also filters, transistions, titles ex, have a bit of a laps time to render, but then she runs ok. This wait is not as much of a challenge with this set up as with Motion. I need a much bigger gpu on the video card for this app. Not sure if this computers throughput is really worth the upgrade. Beleive this though, Motion is demanding on using ALL you can give it. It is a Genious App, and it also calls for ALL THE POWER YOU CAN GIVE HER IN A VIDEO CARD. Conclution: if you are just starting which it sounds like, even a smaller video card than this can work For FCP X. Make sure you have at least 8 gig of cpu ram. 12 or more will help here. Also make sure the card is OpenCL compadible.....& this is in the thread above,,,,,,,,

What is my best hardware/software to convert vhs to digital so I can edit in Final Cut Pro X
What is my best hardware/software to convert vhs to digital so I can edit in Final Cut Pro X? Wondering if there is a solution under 100.00 or do I need to think a bit more. Thank you.
Have been doing this for some time, my setup:
I use an ancient "Symphonic" VCR player connected to an Elgato Eyetv Hybrid USB dongle. That plugs into my G5 Mac, 10.5.8, which runs Eyetv software v. 2.5.3.
Recording is dead simple after fiddling around a bit with software settings for channel, etc. Start the player, hit "record" on the software and wait for the end.
The recording is saved in some obscure ".eyetv" format with file size about 4 GB per hour of recording. The software has export to a variety of formats including QT Movie which results in a substantially larger file size.
Quality? Well, it's viewable and usable for archive purposes. I'm fine with it but more discriminating folks may want something better. I end up burning the video on a DVD using iDVD and that's not the greatest anyway.
There are various Elgato units available, and the Eyetv Hybrid seems to run bout $130.
Hope that helps.
