Can I run Final Cut Pro on a Macbook?

Hello,
Can somebody tell me if it is possible to run FCP on the new Macbook 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo laptops?
Are there any reported problems?
Thanks
Evanssent

It is possible but not recommended. The FCS specs are here.
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
Color and Motion won't even open but using FCP has been done. It depends on what kind of footage you plan on using. If you want to do HD you will have problems. SD should be okay.

  • Can´t reinstall Final Cut pro on my Macbook without Firewire

I can't install final cut pro in my new Macbook, should it be because of no firewire port.
    It says "hardware problem"

Firewire port is not required to install Final Cut Pro. Take a look at the Final Cut Studio system requirements and cross-reference it with your system specifications to discover what hardware your computer is lacking.

  • I'm running OS X, but I can't run Final Cut Pro 1.0 and appropriate upgrade

I recently purchased a Macbook with OS 10.4.6 on it. I have Final Cut Pro 3, but I can only install it via FCP1 and upgrade to FCP2 and finally to FCP3. However, when I try to install 1.0, it says that this system cannot support it. I can't seem to figure out how to run Classic mode either.
So, my question is, what are my options to run this software? (I really do not want to purchase the newest software.) Also, I know someone who has FCP3 full version (not an upgrade); would it be possible to install this software and use one of the serial numbers from one of my other software disks? Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

FCE is more limited but depending on your needs it might be fine
    check out http://www.apple.com/finalcut
why do you feel you need to download an upgrade
after FCP 4 (3-4 years ago) you no longer needed an older version installed just the serial number as they discovered the problem that you are running into now

  • Can I run Final Cut Pro 7 with Mountain Lion?

I just bought a new Mac mini equipped with Mountain Lion, and discovered that it won't run Final Cut Express, so I wonder if FCP-7 works. I know it well, and am not eager to learn a whole new system with FCP-X.

The answer is generally yes, but here is a thread that dives deep into ithe question and which you might want to read.
    Good luck.

  • Can I run Final Cut Express on a MacBook?

I'm interested in purchasing Final Cut Express, but I have been told the program will run very slowly on a MacBook with only 2 GB of ram. It is it worth purchasing Final Cut without adding 2 more GB of ram to my MacBook?

I have FCE and a super special "black" macbook 2.4ghz intel core 2 Duo with 4 GB of ram installed. FCE runs just fine. For the most part rendering does not take very long at all, of course this depends what you are rendering and how long the actual media is. I would say that I am VERY satisfied with the way it runs. (but I was smart and spent the extra 100 bucks on the super special, extra fast, blackbook). Also, when someone who works for a company is suggesting you need to spend more money for better performance...well think about it...its true...but do you really need everything to render lightning fast. I tend to do a rough cut, then I tighten everything up, and save effects and adjustments that take a "reasonable time to render" til the end. Then you render and have some milk and cookies. Next thing ya know, you've had a nice snack and your sweet film is rendered...and you have money in the bank. But honestly, *runs fine*. Hope this helps.

  • Can I run Final Cut Pro X on the most basic Mac Mini?

The Spec sheet: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/ it says "Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better." I'm not sure whether what comes with the standard Mac Mini is same / better or worse.

    Thanks,
My 5 y/o Macbook is on it's last legs I think and really need something decent for video editing. I don't do millions but can't even install FCP on my current Mac and even iMovie takes about 3 days to even open on it. (I've upgraded RAM, HD and OS till Lion).

You can find out for yourself by downloading the free 30 day trial.
    http://www.apple.com/uk/finalcutpro/trial/
Sorry, I didn't realise at first that you hadn't yet got a Mini.
FCP X should work perfectly on all current Macs.
However, the ideal one would be an iMac if you can stretch to that.

  • Can I run Final Cut Pro 7 after upgrading to OS Mavericks?

I have not upgraded in a while (10.7.5), but have heard that FCP 7 crashes with other upgrades.
I'm assuming such is the case here, but I would like confirmation one way or the other.

My FCP also crashes while transcoding under MAVERICS.

  • Can't run Final Cut Pro 4.1 on new 2.3 dual core G5

When trying to start up FCP 4.1 on my new Mac it gives me the following error:
    "Configuration Error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    • AGP graphics card."
Does this mean that FCP 4.1 doesn't support the new processors?

    Wow. I'm impressed.
There is no such thing as FCP 4.2. It went from FCP 4.1 to FCP 4.5. In fact, going to FCP 45. is a free upgrade. Open your SOFTWARE UPDATE System Preference and it should be there. Or look for it on Apple's site. S
See if upgrading to 4.5 doesn't help.
This computer is too new for us to really know anything. Because again, we are users of the software, much like yourself...and not Apple employees.

just wondering whether can i install final cut pro in my macbook air wth intel corei5 64bit

yes, you can. Its on mine.
If however you plan on anything other THAN simple cuts and simple edits, youre barking up the wrong tree.
Heavy layer and graphics additions or any serious vid. edits is not the forte' or platform for the macbook Air.

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,

I do know the software version for sure, but the Intel/PowerPC is very confusing. I just need to find someone who would know about this question. It doesn't say G5 on this computer. Thats my biggest confusion. Help Me...

  • Can my MacBook Pro run Final Cut Pro X fine?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I can run Final Cut Pro X fine in my mid-2010 MacBook Pro? I am looking to get the software simetime this year. The specs are in my signature (the GPU is an nvidia 330m with 256mb of VRAM).
Has anyone run FCPX in the Core i5 mid-2010 MacBook Pros? If so, hows the experience in terms of performance?
    Many thanks!

You should be OK with an i5 machine but there seem to be many variables in how well each machine works. here's a thread you should look at:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3726332?tstart=0
Also, if you go to the app store and look on the FCX page you will find the specs.

  • I want to purchase a powerbook that will run a music program like MOTU or Pro Tools as well as run Final Cut Pro without being sluggish...any help?

I want to purchase a powerbook that will run a music program like MOTU or Pro Tools as well as run Final Cut Pro without being sluggish...any help?

The only way that would work out is if you ran exactly the versions that were made for old PowerBooks. Anything newer may require Intel and not run, or will strain the poor old G4 CPU.
Your needs have to be modest, too, because the problem with older music and video software is that they are not current as far as formats and codecs for the Web. If you want to output H.264, the current standard for YouTube/Flash video, older software may not support it, and in addition, H.264 is processor-intensive and is tailor-made for today's multi-core, 2+ GHz processors. It will overwhelm a G4. A PowerBook G4 can barely play YouTube videos.
More perspective: The PowerBooks worked great for miniDV format editing. In other words, 480i SD/standard definition video in use from the late 1990s to the late 2000s. If that is all you want to do, edit tape from an old miniDV camera to SD output, then OK.
But if you want to edit today's HD video, whether 720p from a snapshot camera/iPhone 4 or 1080p from a DSLR, the PowerBook and the software for it will either not recognize AVCHD/H.264, or it will slow the PowerBook to a dead crawl.
I'm in agreement with the above: Intel Macs have been out for so many years that getting a used one is a much better deal than a dead-end PowerBook. And I loved (still love) my PowerBooks.

  • Preparing my MBP to run Final Cut Pro

    Hello,
Apologies if this question has been answered, I've searched for over an hour but can't find what I'm specifically looking for.
I would like to know what I need to upgrade / increase / expand on my MBP, in order to run Final Cut Pro and work with XDCAM and HDV source material.
    Currently:
    2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.
    2 Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, 256 Mb VRAM
From my research I think that I at least need to increase the RAM and get a big external hard disk to store the material.
Is there anything else I need to do?
I expect many people will say, buy a Mac Pro but we just don't have the budget! If it takes a long time to render then we just have to live with that.
    Any advice much appreciated.

As for DIY I can not give you advise, I live in Europe but buying ram at the Apple store is maybe not the budget way.
I usually look here to install things yourself
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/installation.cfm
There are for sure other/better sites but with the MBP installing extra ram is easy,
A 1TB will be more then enough, I would go myself for 2x500 GB firewire, this gives the option that when a job is finished and you don't need the media anymore you can sweep one of the drives completely.
    Just my 2 cents

  • Will iMac G5 2.1 run Final Cut Pro 4.0.1

Tried to install and run Final Cut Pro 4.0.1 on my iMac G5 2.1ghz and it installed but would not run. I did get a message that read that some software or hardware was needed (AGB Graphics Card was listed in red) but I would think that the iMac had everything it needed. If you know if 4.0.1 should run or if the newer 5.0 will run on a std. off the shelf G5 iMac, please let me know?
    Much Thanks
    Greg J

Final Cut Studio will run on your iMac.
If he has the 1st gen iMac G5, it should run. If he has the ALS or the iSight, it won't.
He has the 2.1 GHz, so he should have the 1st gen, yes?
"Final Cut Pro 4 through Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 require a computer with an AGP video card for installation. PowerMac G5 (Late 2005) models (released October 19, 2005) and iMac G5 (iSight) models feature newer PCI Express video cards. Because of this, you can't install Final Cut Pro 4.x on these computers. Final Cut Pro 4.x is not supported on these computers."

  • What's the best Mac for running Final Cut Pro X?

Title says it all. What's the best Mac for running Final Cut Pro X? I'm not looking to make a feature length hollywood film. But I'd like to be able to edit video without lag.

Yes. Begin with the fastest processor / graphics card / and as much RAM as you can afford. (As all three will become obsolete over time.)
I started from scratch. I have a 27-inch iMac with a 3.4 G Intel Core i7. (currently the fastest processor for an iMac) I also ordered the best graphics card--AMD Ratheon HD. I ordered 16G of RAM, but recently added more RAM to equal 24G. (OWC makes good after-market RAM for iMACs.)
Last, I ordered a flash drive / SATA hard drive combo.  (250G on flash / ITB on SATA). The OS and all of my applications run off the flash drive. (for fast start up!)
I put all of my media and FCP projects onto the SATA hard drive.
Now, I had the option to order a 2TB SATA. But, I realized I can always buy more external storage as I edit more and more projects. ALSO! FCPX is GREAT when it comes to editing projects on external drives! I can segregate an entire project and its media files onto a removeable drive. I simply launch FCPX, plug in the drive and--poof!--I'm ready to edit. It sees the project and the media right away. When I'm done editing, I can then send this drive to another editor (also using FCPX) or attach it to my MacBook if I want to edit the same project in the field.
This has worked for me. I wish you luck.
