Can I run Lion on my iMac?

I Have an iMac Running OSX 10.6.8.  How can I tell if I can upgrade to the new Lion O/S?  The web site says IMac's running Lion if 'mid 2007 or later'  but sure how to get that infor about my IMac.  The web site says if runniing Lion the More Info option off of the About This Mac will tell me but it does not tell me how to fin out if running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  That More Info does not show me the month/year info that I seem to need to know...
Thanks!

Thanks for your help.  Here is info you requested

  • Can you Run Lion server on iMac and use monitor for another computer

With lion server you don't need a monitor and I figure why buy a mac mini when i could by a 27" imac and use it as a display and a mac mini running lion server.
I have been going over the scenarios and am trying to decide if I should buy the TB display or a second 27" imac.  Eventually I will have 3 27" displays... but I want to run Lion Server off of one of the imacs... and use the display with the other imac.
do you know if it is possible to use the display of the imac for a mbp or another imac while running an operating system (lion Server) on the computer at the same time.
not sure if I made my self clear there or not.
    Ryan

Ryan as long as both the Mac Mini and iMac have Thunderbolt you could use the iMac as an external monitor for the Mac Mini. The current machines with Thunderbolt connections are 2011 iMacs, MacMini's, MacBook Air's & all MacBook Pros.

  • I have a iMac with 3Gb of memory can I run Lion

Can I run lion or will it take up all the memory I use lightroom and photoshop CS4

To see what processor you have, do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and see what the processor like says. Looks like this on a PowerPC Mac:
If it says "PowerPC" as in the image, and your processor's speed is shown as 867mHz or greater, the highest Mac OS you can run is 10.5.8 Leopard.

As far as licensing goes, it seems that as long as all the Macs are being used in your household, there's no limit.
    From the Lion license file:
"If you obtained a license for the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rules set forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    i) to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control."

Alternatively, partition your internal HD and dual-boot it. Do note that you have to reboot to switch back and forth. You can't do it by logging out and back in.

  • HT3606 can i run icloud on a Imac G5 running Leopard 10.5.8

    can i run icloud on a imac g5 running 10.5.8 ?

I have a 2004 imac g5 and I have been able to use iCloud.com on it. I have used it with Safari, WebKit, Tenfourfox and stainless browsers.  I had the best experience in Tenfourfox, followed by WebKit.  In Tenfourfox, I was able to use all iCloud apps including the beta versions of keynote, numbers and pages.  Try it, you have nothing to loose but possibly making your old Mac more usable and relevant.

  • How, or can, I run Lion on this machine WQ737216Z5W

How, or can, I run Lion on this machine WQ737216Z5W

Your MacBook is a model 2,1 Mid 2007. It can run 10.7 Lion but not 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.16-whit e-13-mid-2007-specs.html
You will want to up your RAM to the maximum. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

Can I run Lion on on a Intel Core Duo computer?
I have on of the Intel Core Duo  macbook.
I hope on othe apple people can answer that for me.

This is my Macbook and I seem to be able to run a depleted Lion operating system on it
no full screen on some applications. no response to multi swipe actions, No Air Drop. and so on and so on. Also when it loaded it stalled with no real information and i had to go to reload Lion which then instigated further download of 6 minutes to load a slightly amended copy of Lion. thought i had lost all my info but it did all reappear
It does have Launchpad and Mission Control but i seem to have lost my Isight camera in Photo booth and Skype. this has happened occasionaly before and a reboot brings it back for a while.
Ah well Is it time to up grade the laptop?? Do i need a laptop?? Anyway ill keep this one for a bit and see how it goes at least some of the changes work.

Have a MacBook Pro running Lion (10.7.9) and an IMac running Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Want to Back up both images and restore on opposite machines. Essentially swapping images between hard drives. Is this possible and any "gotcha's" to look for? Thanks

If the MBP came with Lion, it most likely won't boot with SL. Easiest thing to do is create a bootable backup/clone of each to an ext HD, partitioned to hold each on a separate volume, ensure that the original machines can boot with their respective clones, and finally, try booting the other machine with the other clone. Images are useless since you can't boot with them to test them out.

  • Can you run Lion os and Lion Server os on the same Mac mini?

I'm a windows convert to Mac and I'm interested in running a standard Lion Client, but at the same time running Lion Server on the same Mac Mini (Server Edition).  My needs for the Lion Server OS is to handle e-mail, a Web Site, and file sharing between the server to a secondary PC, iPad, and iPhone.  But at the same time I wish to dive into the Mac (Apple) experience.  I just wish to be able to do this on the same machine.
As a secondary question, is it possible to merge two different iTune Accounts into one?  Is it possible to share items purchased on one iTunes account with an iPad that is tied to a different iTunes Account?

    1. Yes, but you'll need separate partitions for each OS, or run the client OS in emulation.
    2. It isn't possible to combine the accounts, but a single iTunes library can contain content from multiple iTunes Store accounts.

  • Can Premiere run on 5400 rpm iMac?

I am in college and new to editing software (and Macs in general). My parents ordered a iMac for me for christmas, with CS6 and FCP7. I just need these to edit short films for myself and friends.
However the iMac is 21.5" which I'm pretty sure only has a 5400 rpm drive.
So, what's the best solution? Return it once its delivered, or can I run the program off the iMac drive while using 2 7200 rpm external drives for, as the tutorial suggests - RAID with one having the captured video/audio and the other with video/audio previews? (Or is there a better solution?)

the thunder something port ( thunder bolt ? ) is supposed to be fast ...and I think you can daisy chain stuff on it...if you google whats available for drives using that port you might be in good shape.... just using internal drive for the OS and programs...

Then you gotta deal with the ram and graphic card ...whatever.. to get up to speed...

If they don't have a Mac version and you must have it, you'll have to install Windows in Boot Camp or similar app.

  • Can I download LION on 2 iMacs?

Can I download OS X Lion to 2 iMacs?

The license on Apple software purchased at the App Store allows you to install the software on any Apple Branded systems that you own or control. So if both those iMacs are yours then the answer is yes.
