  • Can I run Lion on a Macbook w Intel Core 2 Duo?

I've recently inherited a circa 2008 MacBook. 13inch white. I've wiped it clean and am running the latest OS X 10.5.8 and am being told no updates available. What's the newest version OS i can run on it?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later

                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Can i run snow leopard on macbook pro puchased new in 2009?

Can I run snow leopard on macbook pro purchased new in 2009?

The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available at this time from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If you wait to long and they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already over $100 on Amazon.

  • How, or can, I run Lion on this machine WQ737216Z5W

How, or can, I run Lion on this machine WQ737216Z5W

Your MacBook is a model 2,1 Mid 2007. It can run 10.7 Lion but not 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.16-whit e-13-mid-2007-specs.html
You will want to up your RAM to the maximum. You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/faq/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-3-g b-memory-limitation-details.html
OWC tests have found that there is a slight speed increase with having two 2gb sticks in rather than one 1gb and one 2gb. Your model is in the gray lines at the bottom of the graph. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Memory_Benchmark/Apple_MacBook/
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

Can I run Lion on on a Intel Core Duo computer?
I have on of the Intel Core Duo  macbook.
I hope on othe apple people can answer that for me.

This is my Macbook and I seem to be able to run a depleted Lion operating system on it
no full screen on some applications. no response to multi swipe actions, No Air Drop. and so on and so on. Also when it loaded it stalled with no real information and i had to go to reload Lion which then instigated further download of 6 minutes to load a slightly amended copy of Lion. thought i had lost all my info but it did all reappear
It does have Launchpad and Mission Control but i seem to have lost my Isight camera in Photo booth and Skype. this has happened occasionaly before and a reboot brings it back for a while.
Ah well Is it time to up grade the laptop?? Do i need a laptop?? Anyway ill keep this one for a bit and see how it goes at least some of the changes work.

As far as licensing goes, it seems that as long as all the Macs are being used in your household, there's no limit.
    From the Lion license file:
"If you obtained a license for the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rules set forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    i) to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control."

Alternatively, partition your internal HD and dual-boot it. Do note that you have to reboot to switch back and forth. You can't do it by logging out and back in.

  • Hi, i'm Architec and my basic programs are: Autodesk Architecture and 3D studio Max. Can i run it in the MacBook Pro 13.3-Inch  (NEWEST VERSION) Thanks!!!

Hi, i'm Architec and my basic programs are: Autodesk Architecture and 3D studio Max. Can i run it in the MacBook Pro 13.3-Inch  (NEWEST VERSION) Thanks!!!

You can but make sure you upgrade your RAM to 16GB - you can't do that through Apple...
Autodesk is a memory intensive program and the same goes with 3D Studio Max.....
Another suggeston if you must use a 13 inch is to buy the base 13 inch Macbook Pro and upgrade the RAM to 16GB and install a SSD to make it perform fast.
Another option is to get a refurbished 15 Inch Macbook Pro and do the RAM upgrade yourself...Advantage going 15 Inch is because it has it's own discrete graphics adapter rather than the built in Intel video.

Can I run lion or will it take up all the memory I use lightroom and photoshop CS4

To see what processor you have, do "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and see what the processor like says. Looks like this on a PowerPC Mac:
If it says "PowerPC" as in the image, and your processor's speed is shown as 867mHz or greater, the highest Mac OS you can run is 10.5.8 Leopard.

  • I have a 13" MacBook Core 2 (Penryn),can it run Lion?

Just got this in a trade,it has 2mb of ram,2.1ghz and I'm thinking it should run Lion....but according to Low End Mac it cant boot a 64bit OS,just a 32bit one. This is confusing me to no end.Anyone know if my "new" Macbook will run Lion or not?

You should be able to run Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), if your system match the specs then you just need to download and install Lion.  Take a look at this link first to prepare your MacBook, http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20076201-263/how-to-prepare-your-mac-for-os -x-10.7-lion/

  • Can i put lion on 2006 macbook with 2g ram

I just upgraded to snow leopard and would like to run lion if its possible. I upgraded the ram to 2g and am finding my old macbook is running faster than ever with snow leopard. Can I take asvatage of lion or am I out of time on this old mac?

Lion is no longer easily obtained now that Mountain Lion has been released. Mountain Lion cannot run on your model, so Lion is your end of the line for OS X. Frankly, unless iCloud is essential for you I would stick with Snow Leopard.
If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.

  • Can you run Lion os and Lion Server os on the same Mac mini?

I'm a windows convert to Mac and I'm interested in running a standard Lion Client, but at the same time running Lion Server on the same Mac Mini (Server Edition).  My needs for the Lion Server OS is to handle e-mail, a Web Site, and file sharing between the server to a secondary PC, iPad, and iPhone.  But at the same time I wish to dive into the Mac (Apple) experience.  I just wish to be able to do this on the same machine.
As a secondary question, is it possible to merge two different iTune Accounts into one?  Is it possible to share items purchased on one iTunes account with an iPad that is tied to a different iTunes Account?

    1. Yes, but you'll need separate partitions for each OS, or run the client OS in emulation.
    2. It isn't possible to combine the accounts, but a single iTunes library can contain content from multiple iTunes Store accounts.

  • How can i run Windows on a macbook Pro

    Hello
I am close to a business decission to use in future a MACBook Pro with Retsina Display
For Business reasons i have to be able to run also Winodws in a Virtual machine as some company internal applications need Windows
Which program would i use here on the newest MAC-OS
I want to use for private the MAC-OS and run Windows in a virtual environment to avoid Dual boot
Is the winodws Machine from Network, Printer drivers and all other transparent to the network?
bluetooth and other ports transparent supported in Windows?
any restrictions you may know on such environment
What versions of Windows are supported in such a virtuell environment?
Can i run Outllook from Microsoft in MAC-OS ?
Thanks very much for the answers

I second jopilkie's recommendation for Parallels. I've been using Parallels for years - currently using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with MS Office 2013, a ton of Adobe apps, etc. I use it primarily for Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe LiveCycle Designer and a few other apps that aren't available for OS X.
The answer is 'yes' to most of your questions - your network, printing, scanning, Bluetooth, DVD drive(s), external and internal hard drives, etc. can be accessed both in the Windows environment as well as OS X. And you can run Outlook either in on the Mac side or on the Windows side (personally, I signed up for Office 365 - $100 a year and you can install Office on up to 5 machines) - I use Outlook 2013 on the Windows side for three of my email accounts and Outlook 2011 on the Mac side for an additional 3 email accounts: it's nice to keep things separate that way!
I would recommend running Windows 7 - 64-bit, but whichever 'flavor' you prefer. Personally, Pro works just fine for my needs.
But beware Office 2013 on the Windows side - it really takes some familiarity until you become accustomed to it! Too much like Windows 8, but I'm getting used to it...
Call back if you've other questions.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
