  • Can I run Mountain lion?

From what I can see online it's saying I can't run Mountain lion on my iMac however if I go by just the spec's alone it seems I could run it. I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and try to see if it runs or not so I thought I would post the spec's here and see.

I don't have much in the way of documation for this iMac as it was purchased from a college auction in the summer. However I do know that this college is know for going with higher end models and addding extra stuff to their machines to handle the Adobe Creative Suits better.
Also the main reason for me wanting to update this iMac is because as I have other apple products and it seems like iCloud will help me keep things in sync better. As a heavy users of iCalendar I would love to have this sync acrros all my devices.
The devies in question that I want to sync besides the iMac are a MacBookPro5,5, iPhone 4, and a iPad with Retina display
Also I take it, it's safe to assume my MacBookPro5,5 will run Mountain Lion just fine?
P.S - When I download Mountain Lion from the app store can I use it on both my machines or is it a single use download?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements

             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

  • Why Mac Pro's 1,1 from 2007 can't run Mountain Lion?

I understand that they can't run, but nobody is able to explain why. I can't just through my Mac Pro in garbage because I can't upgrade. Why do I have to upgrade? Well, Sibelius 7 works only in Mountain Lion, and soon, many other software will.
What do I have to change in my mac pro to make it compatible for upgrading to the latest version of mac?
    Thanks

  • PostgreSQL error. Can't run in Lion! Do I need to load or configure anything else?

    Hi there!
I try to start postgres DB in my laptop for development purposes. First I try to install PostgreSQL DB, but i find out that is already in MacOS Lion.
Problem is that i receive this error when i try to run with:
    HangaRoa:~ root# serveradmin start postgres
    postgres:error = "CANNOT_LOAD_BUNDLE_ERR"
I'm very very noob in MacOS systems. I look a simple way to test local systems to develop in cafe's.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chris
If you open a terminal window (console) and type /usr/bin/postgres_real without any parameters you will see that it is attempting to connect to a PostgreSQL SERVER.
The error you may expect is:
postgres_real does not know where to find the server configuration file.
You must specify the --config-file or -D invocation option or set the PGDATA environment variable.
The application, postgres_real, cant find the SERVER configuration file because it can't find the "typical" data directory PostgreSQL uses.
Have a look at the very last lines of following file:
    http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/PostgreSQL/PostgreSQL-26/Makefile
    You should find:
    install-wrapper:
              @echo "Installing wrapper"
              $(MV) $(DSTROOT)/usr/bin/postgres $(DSTROOT)/usr/bin/postgres_real
              $(INSTALL) -m 755 Support/postgres $(DSTROOT)/usr/bin/postgres
              @echo "Done."
One might ask why postgres_real is installed but not the rest of the postgres software.
    If you type: postgres_real --help
    You should get the following:
    postgres_real is the PostgreSQL server.
When I compared the PostgreSQL softwre installed on my new Mac Mini Server to what was installed on my MacBook Pro, there was a lot of difference.
Also, I believed, that the FULL PostgreSQL SERVER software was not fully intalled and configured on my MacBook Pro and the error seemed to explain that it doesn't have a place that it could find a real server, be it on the local host or at a remote network location.
I looked around for a PGDATA directory or the like and I couldn't find one on my MacBook Pro but I did find one on the new Mac Mini Server.
If you can find a location on your Mac that has a Postgres Data directory (PGDATA) then you might be able to use the -D option of postgres_real to prove that there are tidbits of software hidden and floating around on your Mac, however, I beleve you will have a terrible time trying to figure it out because there are so many software parts missing.

  • How old is my Mac mini and can i run mountain Loin

I have a mac mini Intel core 2 duo, 1.83 GHz, 2 GB SDRam running Mac OSX 10.6.8. Several of my software apps states its 64 Bit Intel. Can I run Mountian Lion? I have no idea how old my mini is or how to find out.  I really just want to use the icloud.  ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.

It would appear you have a Mid-2007 model. You can run Lion but not Mountain Lion. iCloud works with Lion 10.7.2 or later.

One person had iffy 3rd RAM.
You updated AMD graphic driver too to 11.8+ right? not just Apple's.
Plenty of free space for Windows to play with.
    Do a chkdsk
Boot from Windows DVD and run memtest and also do system check
Restore points are better used, and image Windows
    Rollback drivers works well, too
Some had trouble after NetFrame 4? update in Windows (but not on my 3 computers)
Apple drivers can be iffy and buggy
AppleHFS.sys has been known to be trouble. HFS allows for filenames that NTFS won't.
Paragon has HFS9.x driver that adds write support and does a better job
BC 4.x is still it seems trouble for more than a few (but obviouslly not in the 10s of thousands)

how many devices can i run lion on it?

As far as licensing goes, it seems that as long as all the Macs are being used in your household, there's no limit.
    From the Lion license file:
"If you obtained a license for the Apple Software from the Mac App Store, then subject to the terms and conditions of this License and as permitted by the Mac App Store Usage Rules set forth in the App Store Terms and Conditions (http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/) (“Usage Rules”), you are granted a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license:
    i) to download, install, use and run for personal, non-commercial use, one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control."

  • Trying to upgrade from snow leopard to lion. Father already purchased Lion online a few months ago but did not use upgrade (did not know cmp was already running on lion). How can I use his upgrade on my computer without having to buy another Lion upgrade?

    Hi,
Basically my computer is running on Snow Leopard. My father bought the Lion upgrade to install on his computer, however, it ended up being that his newly purchased lap top already came running with Lion -- thus, he never ended up using the Lion upgrade he purchased. Now, I would like to use the Lion upgrade he purchased but did not use to upgrade my computer to Snow Leopard. The information he gave me for this was the Web Order Number, Part Number, and Content Code for the Lion upgrade. How do I redeem/use his upgrade to update my computer to Lion without having to purchase another copy of the Lion software from the App store? Is that possible?
    Thank you so much!!!

Unless he controls your machine (same household), you can't. At $30 USD, pop for your own copy.

Alternatively, partition your internal HD and dual-boot it. Do note that you have to reboot to switch back and forth. You can't do it by logging out and back in.

  • Is the Dell 3115CN compatible with a Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion? If so, how can I install the drivers and install the printer on my mac?

I hace a Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion OS.... I need to print from time to time but don't have a new printer to go with my new macbook. Would a 3115CN work with it or no? If so, how can I set it up? Setting up a printer on a mac is a bit different from doing so on a windows machine and I am new to the macworld.
All help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. I'm running this printer from 10.6 through 10.9 and it's worked fine with all versions. Dell released updated drivers a while ago that make it much easier to administer this printer.

How can I print to my HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless Printer from my iPhone 4S which used to work (on prior iPhones) before AirPrint printers were even available? (running Mac Lion OS, all software and HP sw updates are all performed)
I don't get it, I read one post about why would we have to buy an AirPrint Printer when we have used the "print to a wifi printer" just fine in the past?  Yes I feel that's exactly what's happening to me now too. I want to print from my iPhone and iPad to my WiFi Printer which is also now connected to my Airport Express WiFi network just fine. No problems.

Very glad you added that bit of information because I see different problems similar to this.  I want to share with them what you did and hopefully you not only fixed your specific problem but you can lend some more advice to others with problems like this. Thanks!
