Can i run windows on my mac book?

I am trying to avoid having to buy a new computer.  i need to acess my works server and they run windows.  i need access to microsoft outlook, xcel, and accubid. anyone have any advice?

VirtualBox is just one solution, in the "virtualization" category. With virtualization, you continue to run OS X and its programs, and Windows runs like another application as a "virtualized" PC. This is nice because you can use Windows and Mac programs at the same time. Ars Technica just did a review of Parallels and Fusion, two other non-free applications you can use other than VirtualBox which people use for more serious work. You should read that review because it will give you good background on how people run Windows on Macs under virtualization. I use VirtualBox and Parallels, on different Macs.
The other way to run Windows is to create a separate partition on your disk, load Windows on it, and reboot the entire Mac into Windows. Apple allows this through Boot Camp software. This basically turns the entire computer into a Windows PC, which is best for compatibility, performance, and resource use, but you can't run Mac programs while you're using Windows in Boot Camp.

  • Why can you run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows

I dont understant why you can run windows on a mac, but not mac on windows.  Any help.  I would purchase OS X Mountain Lion if you gave me a way.

Microsoft builds software to run on other companies' hardware, pretty much exclusively if you don't count the long line of failed devices: Zune, Windows phone, and now the Surface.
Apple builds hardware. They support that hardware with their own operating system. It is designed to run only on their very tightly integrated hardware. Trying to write software for the plethora of crap being sold would be a failing proposition and would divert resources away from the great software they provide for their hardware customers.
The hardware and software are very well engineered to provide the best possible experience.
If you want to experience a Mac, buy a Mac.

    Yes,
You can run Windows and a few programs at the same time as OS X in a window if your willing to take a performance penalty, no heavy duty 3D games or heavy CPU needs.

I want to place games on my computer. However, some of the games I want to play are not compatible with my Mac and I want to know how to run Windows on my Mac.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Intel Mac comes with Boot Camp, that allows you to install Windows into your Mac. See > http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
Go to this website, look for your Mac model under "Boot Camp requirements by Mac model" and choose one Windows version.
Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to install Windows. Follow Apple's steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf

In addition to installing Windows in Boot Camp so that it will run instead of Mac OS X, you can also install Windows as a Virtual Machine so that Windows and the Mac OS can run at the same time. To use a Virtual Machine, you'd need software such as VMware Fusion, Parallels, or Virtual Box.
Note, however, that you may have some difficulty finding Windows 7 for sale. You may be stuck with Windows 8.1.

  • Can I run windows on my mac?

I thought I recall being told that you can run mac and windows on a mac at the same time or something like that. I dont see it installed anywhere. Can I install another operating system like as a guest id or something and not have it wipe out my mac system? Or did I just imagine this whole thing?

Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
      6.   Last is Q.  Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs.  It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.

  • Can i install windows on a mac book air?, if i can, do you recomend it?

I want to buy a new macbook air but i need to use windows, but i dont know if i can install it on a macbook air and if i can install it, is it fast? Do you recomend it?

You can but if it's on a disc you would need a way to get it to your MacBook Air such as a USB Superdrive.
For the recomendation I can't really say but if you use programs that only work/work better on Windows then sure. All the Macs I put Windows on worked fine but you should consider the 8GB of RAM upgrade for the MacBook if you plan to run both at once.

  • Running Windows on a mac?

Can I run windows on a MAC? I have a program that is only written for a MAC.
    Thanks.

    Lyssa, Allan,
Thanks for your questions/suggestions. What I am looking to do is use the MACs in Lybia. I want to avoid buying a new computer but need to use a GPS tracker software that only works on windows. This software allows us to see where the children will be every set time interval and receive notification if they leave a pre-set GPS boundary and ehere they are heading. The GPS tracker also uses a sim card to allow listening in and emergency phone calls to two preset numbers. The system terefore will presumably only run 2D mapping type software - it also uses google mapping to locate the position. The system is called GPS-911(R).
    http://www.gopass.com.tw/Product/GPS911GPStracker.htm
Does this push me one way or another... I am happy to go the Bootcamp route. I just know nothing about it.. Does it also require Win XP to be installed - I guess so....?
    Thanks for all the help!!

Maybe too much work in your case to run 64-bit but yes.
2GB RAM is on the low end though for anything in the last 4 yrs - Mac OS Snow Leopard included.

  • With Mac OS 10.6.7 can I run windows XP?

I want to use Boot Camp to slipt my hard Drive so that I can run windows, but the only widows disks I own are XP and Vista but I have heard that with the OS 10.6.7 I can't run windows XP, which is what I really want.
So is it possible to use Boot Camp to run Windows XP with Mac OS 10.6.7?
btw I dont know if it matters but I have a Mac book Pro 13in with Core i7, 4GB memory, and 500GB hard Drive.

MacBook Pro 2011 now only supports and supplies drivers etc for Windows 7, not XP.
Probably due to all the changes needed to support Sandy Bridge processors, SATA3 and ThunderBolt.
if you have 2010 then yes.
And don't rule out using a VM - not good for games but can be for non-intensive apps.
And you probably want Windows 7 64-bit to use 4GB or more (and your MBP takes 8GB RAM, 16GB for 2011).
PS: This is regarding MacBook Pro, totally different from "Mac Pro"

I already bought mac book pro last year but it can't view windows just like mac pro for education. I want to make like mac pro for education How?

First, if you have a MACBOOK PRO (a laptop), you should post in that forum. MAC PRO (desktop) and Macbook Pro are different things, so when you use those terms interchangeably, it's impossible to know what you're talking about.
Second, even guessing that you have a laptop, I still have no idea what your question means. Are you trying to load Microsoft Windows on it? Every Mac can run Windows using either Boot Camp or Parallels/Fusion/VMWare solutions. Please explain in more detail what you're trying to do, and we'll try to help. But post in the Macbook Pro forum if you're talking about a laptop.

  • On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7 without the optical drive, On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7 without the optical drive

On the mac mini 2011 how can I run windows 7pm bootcamp without an optical drive.  I watch lots of football on sop cast and other such windows based programmes but can't work out how to do it.

Actually Windows can be installed and booted from an external drive if the drive is connected eSATA (external SATA), since the drive is treated as if it's an internal HDD. I used the same method previously to dual-boot from 2 different HDD instead of partitioning.
Most PC motherboards come with them as standard so it's pretty much plug and play but I don't recall seeing a recent Mac with eSATA connectivity though, so that might not be an option for you.
