Can I safely give out my iphone's IMEI number?

I'm selling my iPhone 3GS (three years old) online. Someone has asked for the IMEI number for 'assurance that he can activate it'. I'm wondering if there's any real danger in sharing that information? Is it needed for the reasons the potential buyer is stating?

IMEIs can be cloned and applied to devices which are considered lost or stolen and blocked from being used in certain countries. This is obviously a criminal offence.
The chances are that the potential buyer wants to check if your phone is not blacklisted in a country (if (s)he can somehow check it) - so not necessarily a malicious intent.

Currently there's little that can be done, but according to the WSJ today there has been an agreement among US carriers to establish a database of lost phones to help prevent registering stolen phones on another account. This won't help you today though.

Your carrier can do it, but will not do it for you. AT&T specifically, will now block iPhone IMEI numbers when the phone is lost or stolen, so that it cannot be re-used on their network.

ITunes can't seem to detect my iPhone's phone number.

I recently upgraded to a 4S (don't judge me, I wanted to be able to use all my old peripheries after my i4 got stolen), and it seemed to install just fine. I'm currently transferring music and apps, but when I looked at the iPhone main page, it says Phone Number: n/a (not applicable). Is this a problem with iTunes? With my iPhone itself? Or could it be a carrier issue? The phone itself can make and receive calls and texts - I've been using it all day.
Any thoughts?

I recently bought an iPhone 5S about two weeks ago and I have been unable to activate iMessage for my phone number on it. I believe I have tried every troubleshoot step without success. When trying to activate iMessage I get several SMS's telling me this number received my message, but it never gets activated. Though it gets activated for my every single email address. I had it activated for my previous iPhone 4. And it's activated on my iPad 2 and MacBook Pro. Any ideas why is this happening on my iPhone 5S?
PD: My sister is also having the same activation issue on her iPhone 5S. This also happens to FaceTime activation

We have a project in motion to update these versions to the latest and greatest. Unfortunately my predecessor has no logged information on the licenses given out to each installation.

If the installations were registered, then Adobe may be able to help. However, as far as I know there is no way to get the number from the current installation. This has been asked many times before and that is the answer I have seen.

Iphone 4, IMEI number

I recently took a new iPhone 4 tbut after a week I went to the service with it because it didn't recognize my network (Everyday I got the message: "No service. Your iPhone cannot give or receive calls. Please connect it to iTunes and restore it."). After I restored it twice with iTunes, I took it to service (NetCom in Oslo, Norway) because I couldn't configurate it anymore. Now I received the answer from NetCom that they can't fix my phone because it has a different IMEI so the warranty is cancelled. Is it possible that this happened due to my iTunes restoring? Nobody has touched my phone meanwhile and I definitely did not change it, as I am accused now by NetCom. The only IMEI that is not changed is the one of the SIM card. What could have happened, assuming that nobody is lying about the situation?
