Can I safely install the google earth plugin?

I have os x 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and Safari 5.1.7  I have heard that some people have had problems in the past. If there is any kind of significant risk, I just won't do it.

We were wondering the same thing in another thread this week, so please let us know if you manage it.
BTW  That was an excellent ploy with the subject line.  The [more inside] bit had me eager to click through to the next exciting installment of your problem. Do you use Photoshop to illustrate the thrillers you write?

  • Why won't the Google Earth plugin work?

The Google Earth plugin won't load on Firefox (v 17). I have Windows XP Service Pack 3.

In the plugins page it is called Google Earth Plugin 6.2.0.5788. The website for it is [http://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/plugin.html http://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/plugin.html]. I have a custom Webkit browser I made that runs it just fine.

  • Google Earth Plugin doesn't work on Firefox. But it works on other browsers such as Google Chrome.

Google Earth plugin always says "There was a problem with the Google Earth Plugin. Please try reloading the page. If that doesn't help, you can re-install the Google Earth Plugin using this link." However, other browsers such as Google Chrome does not display that kind of problem.
    Firefox version: 36.0.04

Contrary to how it may look, this is an issue with the Google Earth Plugin and not with FireFox. This support forum is for questions related to the products listed on the main support page directly only. As such this question is off topic for this forum.
However, I reccomend openening a thread on the Google Earth plugin forum at https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/earth/problems-and-errors
Annecdotally, the plugin works fine for me under Firefox 36.0.04 and does not work for many Chrome users posting to the forum I linked to above.

  • Google Earth Plugin and LabVIEW: High CPU usage when adding placemarks

    Hi,
I posted this question on stackoverflow earlier this week but feel it might be better suited to the LabVIEW community specifically so I'm reposting here:
I'm writing an application which uses the Google Earth Plugin to display events on the globe. Each event is a single point kml placemark with an icon which is a 3kb png file. Placemarks are uploaded to the plugin as they are received by the software. I am experiencing increasing CPU usage with the number of placemarks that are added.
I have tested displaying a new placemark every second and running until the software running the plugin completely froze (graph attached). The GEPlugin (green trace) stopped responding (i.e. the globe did not respond to the mouse) at around 1200 placemarks added and CPU usage was at ~30%. When the software itself (red trace) froze the plugin was using around 50% CPU and ~3700 placemarks had been added). After the freeze, no new placemarks were added which caused the software to respond (but not the plugin) so I could clear all the placemarks. After the placemarks were cleared from the globe, the CPU usage of the plugin returned to around 5% CPU.
So what I've seen is that GEPlugin CPU usage increases linearly with each kml placemark added. Is this the expected behaviour/ a normal limitation of the plugin? If not is there a more efficient way of adding many placemarks to the globe?
I am using GEPlugin version 7.1.1.1580 (API version 1.010) and LabVIEW 12.0f3
Please see the test results attached. Any input greatly appreciated!

    Hello,
I have had a look at your graphs and understood what you are trying to do. To me it seems that as the image gets more complex it gets harde to render which wold likely cause increase in CPU usage resulting in the freeze. I would suggest you try running the program on anoher computer to check on the RAM front of things. If this is a limitation of the GE Plugin then unfortunately I can not do much to help, but if you think this is a problem coming from your LabVIEW code then you can post your code here and I can take a look.

  • Example of the google earth plug in LabWindows

    Hello.
Anyone ever used the Google Earth plugin LabWindows as was done here in C #.  http://fraserchapman.blogspot.com/2008/08/google-earth-plug-in-and-c.html
If so, could someone give a simple example.
    Thank you.
Edit : The big question is, how to load the plugin in LabWindows?

    Hello jr_2005.
    Thanks for your reply.
As you can see in the image below, I load plguin Google Earth.
What I really need to know is how to display this other image of the Earth. As was done in the example above site.
Sorry for not express well what I tried to say. English is not my native language.
If I can see an example of how to get this image of the earth and the location of any location will be easy to understand the concept.
My big difficulty is that I'm not very familiar with LabWindows is much less programming for MS Windows, but I have done some things, however I never used ActiveX, this is the reason for the difficulty.
Well, as I wrote in a previous post, I am aware programming microcontrollers in C language and feel comfortable with LabWindows.
    Thanks again for your reply.

  • How do I find the home page to update plugins? Google Update, Google Earth Plugin, Windows Live Photo Gallery. I have been to the Google plugins page and found nothing. Thank you. .

I am using Window 7 and Firefox 5.0.1

Google Update, Google Earth Plugin, Windows Live Photo Gallery Plugin all show up as unkown plugins in the Plugin check. Windows Live Photo Gallery is part of Windows Live Essentials.
I searched the Microsoft Web-site in general and specifically Windows Live Photo Gallery and could any version numbers. My current version of Windows Live Photo Gallery Plugin is shown as 15.4.3508.1109 last updated Novmber 10, 2010. I did an internet search and this appears to be the version number for Window Live Essentials 2011. Filecluster.com lists the latest version of Windows Live Photo Gallery as 15.4.3538.0513 updated on Jul 07, 2011. I can find no versions or dates for the plugin.
    Thanks.

  • Firefox 5 deleted my Google Toolbar and Google sez I can't install the Google toolbar to Frefox 5 -- What do I do?

Details: Firefox 5 deleted my Google Toolbar and Google sez I can't install the Google toolbar to Frefox 5 -- What do I do?

Extensions for Firefox, such as the Google Toolbar, include a list of compatible Firefox versions. Currently, the Google Toolbar only goes up to Firefox 4. However, people have tested and it actually works on Firefox 5, so there are two workarounds:
    (1) Edit a file to revise the range of compatible versions
    (2) Install an add-on that lets you ignore the range of compatible versions
This thread has info on both approaches: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837142 google toolbar does not work with firefox 5.0. why not! | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].
    Any luck?

  • CAN I SAFELY download the free audacity library mp3 file to my Macbook Air MAC OS X 10.6.8 through the audacity option button??

CAN I SAFELY download the free audacity library mp3 file (libmpslame.dylib) to my Macbook Air MAC OS X 10.6.8 through the audacity option button without crushing my computer?? Also (since my friend installed audacity I can only get out of it by force quitting. Am I doing something wrong?

I just had the same problem, I've updated to 10.6.8 yesterday, and since then the browsing are very slow, no matter what broswer I am using, the upload download speed are still the same. But browsing just take forever, It takes for example google.com 30 seconds to load. I have Extream high speed internet connection, 3 other computers, and the only one is having this problem is the Mac after the update.
Something in this update screwed my browsing capabitilties, I tried downloading Crome browser, same issue.
I hope there is a way beside TimeMachine to revert the latest update. I don't want to reformat as I am sure as soon as I am going to do the update it will cause the same problem.

  • With the newest version of Firefox, I can no longer use the Google toolbar! Also, some of my Webroot protection had to be inactivated. When will these features be able to be used with Firefox again?

With the new version of Firefox, the Google toolbar and something with my Webroot protection had to be inactivated to install. I use many of the features on the Google toolbar daily, and miss not being able to use it. When I try to reinstall, the message is that it is incompatible with Firefox 5.0. And I am not sure which features of my Webroot protection had to be deactivated for Firefox to install and run, but I want to retain my firewall and virus protection. And I MUCH prefer to use Firefox! So - I know you are always developing and improving. When will these become compatible again with Firefox.

The Google Toolbar is from Google and support for it can only come from Google, and Google has eliminated it from Firefox, and it never was in Google. Even Google has indicated that the features are available in Firefox through other extensions. But the features are really available in Firefox even without extensions from what I've seen because Firefox has very powerful bookmarks and knowing how to use them with JavaScript, substitution, and keyword shortcuts is a key to using Firefox.
'''The Google Toolbar is no longer supported by Google in Firefox 5 and up''', you may be able to get what you want from it for a limited time, the directions to install the Google Toolbar were posted before Google actually announced dropping support.

  • Why doesn't update link for Google Earth plugin work?

    Using information I found here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/925671?as=aaq
I was able to update the plugin.
However, the problem that remains is that the link which Firefox provides in the plugin-up-to-date report does not work! This would appear to be a bug; and, until it is fixed, lots of folks will continue to be confused by this behavior.
(There is also additional confusion attributable to Google, in that, if you visit their Web page for the plugin, it tells you. "Good news, you already have the plugin.", even when you are not running the latest version. That message tells you what version you are running, but it does not mention the current version for comparison.)

In the plugins page it is called Google Earth Plugin 6.2.0.5788. The website for it is [http://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/plugin.html http://www.google.com/earth/explore/products/plugin.html]. I have a custom Webkit browser I made that runs it just fine.

  • Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player?  I have all plug-ins allowed.

Why can't I install the latest version of Flash Player?  I have all plug-ins allowed.

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • What is wrong with the Google Earth app for iPad 3?

I just got a new iPad 3rd gen, and the latest version of the Google Earth app.  But everytime it tries to composite the 3D info, like buildings and such, it crashes.  Every.  Single. Time. What's causing this problem?  Is it the app or the iPad?  I have an iPhone 4 and the app works fine.  Could use suggestions on how make this app work correctly.

The app support asks me to synch the iPad to iTunes on my iMac and then to look for a particular folder on my iMac that's supposed to store crash logs, and then to attach the logs to an email to send to them to review.  But no such folder exists.  I sent them an email anyway and told them why I couldn't get the logs.  But I also noticed all the language in the app support referred only to the iPhone app, and didn't specifically referred to the iPad app, which I know has some differences, such as the 3D imaging on the iPad.   As long as I'm not looking at a map with a large city with lots of buildings, the app works fine.  But if I try to look at DC or NYC, forget it.  The app must be using too much ram and crashing.  But I don't know how to turn off the 3D feature since it seems that's what's causing the problem.  And I'm wondering if I'm the only iPad 3 user having this issue.  Like I said, the iPhone app I have works fine, but it doesn't seem to have the same 3D feature.  I really like Google Earth and use it frequently on my Macs and iPhone, but it not working on my brand new retina display iPad 3 is frustrating.  I hope I can get this corrected.

  • How can i re-install the operating system without deleting my files on the computer

I'm Trying to re-install the operating system on my macbook, and i dont know, if i can only re-install the OS without deleting the Data on the computer.

If the Snow Leopard version on your Snow Leopard DVD is lower than the Snow Leopard version on your computer, you will NOT in any case be able to re-install the OS the way you want it. You will only be able to erase your disk and then reinstall the OS.
It will only "upgrade" and keep your files if the Mac OS X version of your Snow Leopard DVD is newer than the Snow Leopard version on your computer.
