Can I safely unplug my Lacie from my dead laptop?

Hello,
My powerbook finally died (blinking question mark / folder icon on startup) after months of pinging and a day of whirring. (Tech store said it needs a new hard drive, logic board, and OS.) I have everything backed up on a Lacie firewire external HD, but FORGOT TO EJECT IT during my last precious minutes with my laptop.
How can I safely unplug the Lacie from the laptop? I've tried booting from a Disk Warrior CD, and the startup CD, but I can't get to my desktop.
You geniuses are always appreciated, thanks
Erica

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
It sounds like your system has already died. Just unplug the firewire/USB connection to the drive.

    You certainly can.
Be aware that the emails you move to local storage ("on my Mac") will be the only copies that remain.

Hoy can i transfer all my data from a Sony laptop to new Mac airé?

Just to add one extra explanation to simplify things:
grab your (if you have one) external HD and move files (pics vids etc. documents) to same and load it to your macbook Air.
Unless you are running bootcamp, I assume obviously there are no applications you're moving over from Win to Mac OSX.

  • Can I take a hard drive from a different laptop and replace it in my MacBook pro 2007

My MacBook pro (2007) has  failing hard drive. Can I remove the hard drive from a different laptop ie. Toshiba, or HP and replace it with the failing hard drive?

yes you can....but any files/data on the other drive will be gone.  also make sure that the drive you install is a SATA drive which is in your Macbook...
make sure you have your original install disk if you plan on doing a clean install.

Can I transfer an e-book from my Mac laptop to my iPhone?  I have installed the iBook app, but don't know if I can transfer my e-books.

Be careful with the transfer talk.  Keynote for the pad and the mac are slightly different- so make sure the template they plan to sell you will work on the pad, as opposed to a mac.
If you can get it as a file, you can e mail it to your self, or stick it in drobobx and bring it down, or use your normal syncing device.
How are you syncing your pad now, with a PC?
if they are selling it for the pad, they must have a way to get it to you. So spend some time on their website and see if they have some good instructions for you.

  • How can I deinstall CS6 from a dead laptop

My laptop recently died due to a cafe accident - I've installed CS6 on my new laptop but now need to install the second copy (allowed two) on to my office computer - is there some way of  deinstalling from the dead laptop? I guess this is fairly common but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
Or is there some way of de-regstering the copy of CS6 on the dead laptop. I can't find any other way to contact adobe support about this so if anyone has any hints that would be much appreciated.

You need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues.  They have the ability to deactivate the lost installation.
Here is a link to a page with options to help make contact:

  • How can I move Adobe Acrobat Pro from my old laptop to my new one?

A few years ago I purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro. I recently purchased a new laptop. As such, I'd like to install Adobe Acrobat Pro on the new machine, however; I don't want to have to purchase it again. Does anyone know how I can move it from my old laptop to my new one?

I feel I've explained plenty what you must do but you aren't getting it.
All music on your old iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Transfer the music from your iTunes library on your computer to your new iPhone in the same way it was transferred from your iTunes library to your old iPhone - via the iTunes sync/transfer process.
Since you prefer the manual way, you must manually drag and drop the same 377 songs from your iTunes library to your new iPhone - in the same way the 377 songs were manually transferred from your iTunes library to your old iPhone.
Or you can sync which provides more options overall. Create an iTunes playlist for the 377 songs. Select Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes and choose selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Select the iTunes playlist below that includes the 377 songs followed by a sync.

  • How can I move my Acrobat software from my old laptop to my new that doesn't have a disk drive?

Oh, that's the heading - ok...  Well, I think the subject line pretty much says it all
I bought a Lenovo 2 Yoga.  It does not have a disk drive so I can't load the software onto the new system.  And, I don't want to repurchase Acrobat again.  Is there a way to get my Acrobat from my old laptop to my new?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Thanks Sam.am.  I did do that and it appeared to have worked great.  The only problem now is it wants my Serial number.  I have gone over to Identit-e 2.0 to enter my product code to get the serial number as Adobe has directed - but, it doesn't recognize my code.  This was a Student Teacher version.  I have all the original stuff and the product code.  So, I'm not sure why it won't recognize the product code.  I'll keep digging.
Thanks for the other suggestions guys.  Can I move my Acrobat X Pro folder from my old laptop to a stick and just do it that way should I not be able to get the serial number?
    Thanks again

  • Can I safely uninstall intergrated components from 2008R2 VM

My SBS2011 DC is running on a 2012R2 Host that's was a member server
I've run into an issue with replication because I needed to reboot the host and of course the host comes up before the DC so I've removed the host from the domain so it's now a standalone Workgroup box
My trouble is the virtual network adapter won't install on the DC VM, keeps telling me 'Microsoft Virtual Adapter is not configured correctly'
I've unzipped the CAB file from the IC disk and tried to manually install the driver for the adapter but no
I assumed an upgrade of the intergrated components would fix it but it reports the components are up to date.
    Help please?
    Thanks
    Daren

    Hi Daren,
In the VM open device manager  --> view --> show hidden devices --> delete all devices under Network adapters .
Then shutdown the VM and remove the network adapter from VM settings of 2008R2 VM .
If the issue persists , try to add a legacy NIC to check if the issue will arise again .
    Best Regards

  • Can't boot correctly or resume from sleep Compaq laptop, blinking caps light

Hi everyone, I'd like to know if there's a way to fix this weird problem, my laptop can't boot correctly (it shows the CPU blinking caps error code), and after reseting 4 times or so it boots successfully and it works great after that (never saw a BSOD or hang or anything). I can't also resume the laptop from sleep, it shows the same blinking error code.
I had the same problem like 3 months ago, I replaced the CPU with a new one and it worked without a hassle until now. (The reseting trick didn't work back then, so I guess it's a different problem now). Also since then the laptop never overheated, my CPU is always underclocked at 25% using the Maximum Processor State setting in Windows (it probably isn't underclocked at 25%, more likely at 50% or so, but I can certainly feel the difference because it never got really hot, the CPU reports a temperature of 110F/48C under normal use, and it always feels cool to the touch).
I mean, although the laptop works once I get it to boot, not only it's annoying but also I don't know how long it is gonna work doing like 5 resets every single day.
I've tried the arrow keys trick, pressing the power button without the battery or AC connection, I have also reset the BIOS, it booted correctly the first time (it asked to reset the BIOS settings to default), but afterwards it showed the same behavior.
Please don't waste your time telling me to buy a new motherboard and/or CPU, that would be impractical because it's way more convenient to buy a new laptop in that case.
    Thank you very much.

Okay so after like a month or so I found a way to boot it up without problems, it also fixes the sleep problem. So if anyone is having the same problems, try the following: Turn on your laptop pressing the power button for a couple of seconds (just until you see the boot screens) as soon as possible after you connect the AC cable.

  • Can't connect to iMac wirelessly from Windows XP laptop

I am trying to connect my laptop with Windows XP wirelessly to my iMac for internet access.
I am able to connect to my iMac with my iPhone, iPod touch and another friends iPhone, and I have access without any issues. (Of course!)
I have deleted out the wireless accounts completely in the PC and rebooted. Tried again, and the PC sees my iMac's SSID. I click on connect and I input the network key as I have it set for WEP security. It takes a while to try to connect then it seems to time out.
On my iMac I have internet and file sharing enabled. I have also enabled Share files and folders using SMB (Windows).
I know that the PC is also able to connect to open networks without security.
My iMac is plugged into the modem, and I am using Airport for the wireless access point. I have unplugged the modem and let it sit for a few minutes then plugged it back in along with a restart.
I have tried to find information reading through various forums but the answer is eluding me. Help or a nudge in the right direction would truly be appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple DIscussions!
If the other wireless devices have no issues connecting wirelessly to your Mac's shared internet connection then it is most likely configured it properly, so the issue would be with the PC's configuration.
Have you tested the network without security? Does the PC connect and have access to the internet? If so then you may be using a WEP key that the PC cannot use. Non-Apple devices need a 5 character password for a 40 bit WEP key and a 13 character password for a 128 bit WEP key. Those instructions show in AirPort Options of the Sys Prefs/Sharing pane when you configure Internet sharing from Ethernet to AirPort.
