Can I safely use mac clean?

I'm having trouble streaming video, specifically the video pauses and will not restart. Rebooting laptop helps for awhile, but not very long. I'm thinking I need to clean the temporary files, cookies, etc. Thanks for any help.

"Accumulated filth" is NOT the problem, and Mac Clean will not help you.
A failing Hard drive may be the problem, so top priority is to make adequate backups in case your drive stops working completely.
Not having adequate RAM is often the reason for performance problems. Quitting un-needed Applications and especially sync-ing Applications can help.
Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used (OS X Mountain Lion and earlier)

  • Can I safely use ac power rather than stay on battery all thentime?

I use my ipad2 often. Can I safely use ac power vs battery without shortening bat. Life?

Yes, but it is recommended to go through one complete discharge and charge cycle at least once a month.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/
A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge. For instance, you could listen to your iPod for a few hours one day, using half its power, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two, so you may take several days to complete a cycle.

  • My hard drive is damaged. I'm using disk utility; can I safely use CHECKSUM? will it help or give me info?

my hard drive is damaged. I'm using disk utility; can I safely use CHECKSUM? will it help or give me info?

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • After using Mac Cleaner I can't open anything

How do I get back information I think I may have lost after "cleaning" with MacKeeper?

Although not generally recognized as such, MacKeeper is in fact a trojan, because the developer distributes an uninstaller that purports to delete it, but leaves behind something that causes popup ads to appear in the user’s web browser. Try following the instructions here:
    how to uninstall MacKeeper
IMPORTANT: It’s been reported that MacKeeper has some kind of “encryption” feature. What that really means, I don’t know. If you have used MacKeeper to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall the software, or make sure that you can restore the files from backups that were made before they were “encrypted.”
If MacKeeper destroyed data, you have to restore from backups. Otherwise it's gone.

  • 3G iPhone, can't sync using .Mac (also can't upgrade to iTunes 7.7)

Just got a 3G iPhone (totally new user), was activated at the store. Have a working iPhone in terms of phone & web.
However, I'm trying to get my .Mac acct (which has been automatically upgraded to Mobile me) to sync the 3G iPhone over my Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz. I follow the directions: goto System Preferences, click on .Mac (there is no icon for MobileMe), enter my .Mac username/password, click on Sync tab,
    waiting..waiting
finally comes back with "There was a problem with the sync operation. .Mac login failed"
Is this an issue with server overload? (because of heightened 3G iPhone craze)
Another thing. I have a PC laptop runnings Windows Vista & tried to upgrade iTunes 7.6.x to 7.7. Failed on 2 successive attempts! (very rare, most of my Windows app installs go hitch free). Is this also a "server overload" issue, because of the heightened traffic due to iPhone craze?
However, I was able to download/install the entire iTunes 7.7.0.43 Also, on my other PC laptop I was able to successfully load/install an entire iTunes 7.7. This seems to imply some problem with Apple servers doing updates.

I successfully sync'd, using Mobile Me [ control panel ] on my PC laptop, after I downloaded iTunes 7.7
Why it won't do it over System Preferences/.Mac on my Powerbook 1.5Ghz G4 is...??

  • Can I safely use a slimline Superdrive in my MacBook Pro 17"?

Hi All. I've recently bought a new SuperDrive for my MacBook Pro. It turns out that the new Drive is slimmer than the old one. Because of this, there is one bracket that I cannot use to secure the drive into the laptop, as the fitting is not correct (the other brackets that secure the drive, are ok). Am I safe to leave it like this or should I send the drive back for one that is a direct replacement for my old one? The drive I bought is Model No. GSA-S10N. My old drive is Model No. UJ-85J-C. The reason why I would like to keep the new drive is because it writes to DVDR-DL and DVDR+DL, whereas my old drive only writes to DVDR+DL.

    Couple thoughts:
    1. ALWAYS put the drive in that fits the way it's suppose to. not a good thing to put one in that doesn't fit right as it can cause issues with ejecting disc or damage other parts.
    2. the +R stuff seems to hold up better than the -R. I only use +R discs now, I've seen a few -Rs fail after time & have spoken to PC people that had the same thing.
OWC sells the drive that fits your machine & burns everything CD & DVD wise. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/superdrive/MacBookPro17

Is it safe to use pre punched paper in an inkjet desktop printer (specifically HP Deskjet 1341)?  I found out the hard way it's not in Canon Pixma.  Thanks!

Hi - Try following the steps in this document.  If that doesn't resolve the problem, you'll need to contact support for the service options.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can I safely use the Finder's "Get Info" feature to choose "Select a New Original" or "Delete the Alias" to take care of one broken alias that's inside my iPhoto '08 Originals folder?

This alias is not in the Modified or Data folder.  I've read warnings to never change anything in iPhoto through Finder, yet the Finder options look helpful.  However, if they are certain to cause trouble, what other method will get rid of this alias? By the way, this alias is likely the result of changing to a Referenced library a while back (once I found out that was a bad idea I switched back to Managed and purged the problem photos caused by this)  Thanks so much for your help.

What system version and iPhoto versions are you running?  If old enough you may be able to use AliasHerder | Rorohiko Workflow Resources to repair the broken alias files in the library (that is if the source files are available).

  • How legal use Mac System Fonts on Windows? (eula truly invalid in Europe)?

How can i legal use Mac OS 7 or X System Fonts on Windows?
I plan to buy an old broken LC / Quadra or used Mac OS X CD and copy the Mac OS System Fonts to the Windows Machine.
I dont't understand the Mac OS X eula and can't find the Mac OS 7 eula on the web.
I heared the Apple Mac OS eula is invalid and irrelevant in europe.
(incompatible with european antitrust and consumer protection law)
PS: I know already, how i can convert dfont to truetype. It's no technical problem.

Just save.  There is no difference in files between platforms.
There are some Windows-centric font formats that aren't portable, by any OpenType or TrueType font will be portable between platforms.

  • Wwpob_api_*: can these be used?

    Hi all.
I was wondering if those (and other) packages found in the PORTAL schema can be safely used in a PL/SQL application.
And, if so, is there any documentation is available?
Alternatively, I'd appreciate your advice on deleting items on a page programmatically, short of waiting for the next Portal version. ;-)
I lurked into the form produced by Portal wizard and re-created an identical form with my code, but I can't say I like this solution very much.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Alessandro

you are right, there is no function in wwsbr_api , for deleting an item.
wwpob_api_item.delete_item is close to your need, but ... not supported.
the parameters are: masterId of item and Siteid.
These values can be retrieved from wwv_things.
Workaround is, as you mention, to use wwsbr_api.modify_item, and setting p_expire_mode and p_expiration.
    It's a soft delete.
    Patrick.

  • How can I safely clean my Mac of old folders etc to make it run faster?er

How can I safely clean my Mac of old folders, etc to make it run faster?

The only real and safe way to do this is to do it manually  looking through each folder individually.
Many third party utilities claim to clean out a hard drive of various detritus, but some times will delete data that it shouldn't  and delete any other  important data that it shouldn't have.
The only "safe" way to accomplish what you need to accomplish is to do this manually.
Stay away from the OS X system folder!!!!!
    Hard drive getting full?
You can download an app called OmniDiskSweeper.
This app will allow you to see where files maybe able to be delete are located.
If your Mac is running a fairly recent version of OS X, here are some general guidelines.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you have images stored in iPhoto,,the only way to weed out duplicates is to do this manually.
When you delete them, they go to iPhoto's Trash. Remember to empty this when you are done.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what are duplicates and what isn't
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

heidie22, dj_paige has a very good point there. I would not through away the NEF files; I would archive them to a external drive.
By the way, I am assuming that converting RAW files to DNG is a decision you have made and not an accident.
