Can I save PS edits in an xmp file to be read by LR?

The reason I ask this is I have hundreds of photos that were taken on a 5D with a scratched filter, so I am treating the marks as dust bunnies and getting rid of them in the same way, using spot healing and for the scratches, whtever the feature is called where you use the spot healing brush but you 'draw lines'.
However I am one of the many who suffer appalling performance in Lightroom edits so after maybe 20 spot heals the computer slows down so much so as to be unusable. So I then send the file into PS/CS6 as the same doesn't happen there.
I quickly fix all my spots and scratches and then I appear to only have the option of saving the file as a TIF back to LR.
What I'd love to do is save the xmp file, and then have LR update the image given those xmp changes.
Is this possible or do I have to continue to have the extra TIF file?

Hmmm I can't replicate what I did now. The problem with using ACR is that the spot removal tool is just that, a spot. It doesn't allow the removal of scratches, which is the whole point of what I'm doing. If I hit 'Done' after healing a spot it does indeed write to the xmp file, but then I hvae to delete the preview and refresh in order to see the change. I could cope with that if the ACR spot removal was the same tool as in LR, where you can do scratches as well.
Oh well, I'm halfway there so should be grateful for that. Cheers.

How can I save an edited converted (from PDF) file?

    Hi alisonr1825446,
When you convert a PDF file to Word/Excel, it's automatically saved to your Acrobat.com online account. From there, you can download it to your desktop to edit it, and then save it. To download your file, log in to https://cloud.acrobat.com/files. Select the file, and then click the Download link at the top of the file list. Your file will be downloaded to the Downloads folder on your computer.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

Let us start from the beginning.
It has been established that you have Premiere Elements 10. On what computer operating system is it running?
There has not been a File Menu/Export/Movie export opportunitity in Premiere Elements since version 7. We are not up to version 12.
For Premiere Elements 10, your export opportunities are all in Share/ including one for Computer. Under Computer there are several choices. The ones that you see are Adobe Flash Video, MPEG, and AVCHD. The others you have to scroll down to. And those choices are AVI, Windows Media, QuickTime, Image, and Audio. You do not have to use the scroll bar for this. You can click on Adobe Flash Video panel to get it to turn black. Then use the down arrow to go down the list and the up arrow to go up the list. Once you get to a category, you can select a preset and go with it or customize it under the Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab of the preset.
If you post the properties of your source media that you want to try to match in the export, I would be glad to suggest the exact settings for you.
We will be watching for your follow up with details.
    Thank you.

Add On...The Premiere Elements 10 File Menu is for more than Saving, just not exporting. One of the key features that can be access there is the Project Archiver. More on that another time.

Can't save an edited PDF to the same folder it originated from. Error "cannot save the document is read-only or is open by someone else" and then it prompts to save the document to another folder or change the name of the document.  This is not what I want to do! Using WIndows 7

    Hi JC_AUS,
Thank You for posting on the forums. This can happen if the preview of the document is opened in preview pane in Windows Explorer.
Kindly switch off the preview pane and then try the same.

  • Photoshop cc - can't save after edits

Simply cannot save an image, after editing.

Ok, I think the key here is save as vs. save. What I am thinking is the original file is set to read only. Meaning you can not save over top of that file, but you can use save as and create a new file.
In windows explorer locate the file you are opening, then right click on it and see if read only is enabled.

    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I updated to one of the firefox versions (Not sure which one it was)

Thanks Alex, but sadly I already tried that. Neither .docx or .xlsx files show up in the content list. They both show as a Chrome HTML document so changing how Firefox addresses those doesn't help since it thinks its the same type of file. I don't think I can manually add files into the "Content Type" left side nav.

  • How can I export an edited image to a file?

I can't seem to find a way in iPhoto 09 do this. Can I export an edited image to a file, keeping the edits intact, or do I have to use a 3rd party editing app when I edit from inside iPhoto 09?
I would prefer to use iPhoto's editing tools so should I import previously cropped images into iPhoto? If yes, what file should I use? I was wondering if anyone does this on a regular basis and if there issues doing this.
I like the editing tools in iPhoto very much. In other apps I have always cropped, resized, corrected levels and a bit of color. I am not a power user by any means and I am close to doing this all in iPhoto if I could only export the edited image to a file.
The reason I want to do this is because the printing portion of my work flow is to upload files to my merchant who prints them and are ready for nearby pickup within an hour. This is all done at a very reasonable price and the color accuracy is very close.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jim

You can edit from iPhoto by dragging to the desktop or exporting using the File -> Export command, setting the Kind to anything except original.
But you probably don’t need to:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

can i open and edit nikon d810 raw files in lightroom 4.4

No. Lightroom 4.x will never be able to open Raw files from the D810.
D810 support has only just been added to the RC version of Camera Raw 8.6. It is never retrospectively added into older versions.
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.6 RC for CC and CC 2014 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
Adobe will probably add D810 support to the next version of Lightroom.
Either way you'll have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 to be able to open D810 Raw files in Lightroom.

  • How can I save an edited movie scene to my computer?

I have Premiere Elements 11. I have the original, full movie clip but I'd like to save an edited section so I can work on it in a different Elements file. I believe to transfer to a different file I need to first save it to my computer. How can I do that?
    Thanks!

    herewego9
I would archive the project with the Premiere Elements 11 workspace's File Menu/Project Archiver using the Copy option (choice is Archive or Copy). In this way you are creating a folder with your project.prel assets which include copies of the media that went into that project.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiereelements/using/WS09e4b3c48f3a79fc19b622510385d4355c-7d cb.html
Typically that is done for the whole project. The urgent matter is keeping the media that went into the project.prel connected to it, lest you end up with the nasty missing media situation.
You can selective export a portion of the Timeline to a file saved to the computer hard drive by using the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar to span just that segment and making sure that the export settings include "Share Work Area Bar Only".
Another thought might be to make a copy of your project.prel which includes only the edited section, then use the Project Archiver on that.
Please review and see if any of that works for you.
More details to follow if necessary.
    Thanks.

  • Can't save Photoshop edits...

If I open an iPhoto photo in an external editor, Photoshop CS3, I am unable to save the edited file back into iPhoto. I see a grayed-out iPhoto library instead--the photo appears in my Pictures folder but not in iPhoto. This happens with both RAW and JPEG original files and no matter whether I save as TIFF, JPEG, or PSD.
I'm using the latest updates of iPhoto, Photoshop, and OS X. I have rebuilt the database, trashed the prefs, and tried DiskWarrior, but no joy. Any ideas? Thanks.
    C.

If you send a file to PS from iPhoto and make modifications to the file and then save it, it will be saved back to iPhoto.
But if you make a new file, then iPhoto will not know about this new file. It has to be imported.
As No one can save changes to a RAW file, a new file must be created. This new file has to be imported.
So, you sent a RAW file to PS and are producing a jpeg out at the end. The jpeg is a new file and it will have to be imported.
So, to be clear, send a jpeg to PS, save it back to iPhoto, no problem. Similarly with TIFF's or any other supported file. But not with RAW. Why? Because if you edit a RAW file you cannot save it as a RAW file but in some other format. Once it's in another format, it's a new file. This is a characteristic of RAW files.

  • Can't Save After Editing Waveform From Multitrack FCP Export

I've exported a multitrack project to Soundtrack Pro from a sequence in Final Cut Pro. I chose destructive editing, which may have been a mistake. I've made extensive changes to the audio, in particular lots of noise reduction.
Now when I try to save certain of the clips it shows it saving and then it gives me the not-too-descriptive message "The document "(filename)" could not be saved."
I can save the project, no problem, but when I try to quit Soundtrack Pro, it tells me I have 4 Soundtrack Pro documents with unsaved changes.
I've done "Save as" and "Save a copy as" on the clip and it will save it, but after the save, Sountrack Pro is still referencing the old file (which is also the file that shows up in the bin.)
What am I doing wrong? Also, is there a way to tell SP that I've done a "save as" or "save copy as" and want that to be the audio referenced in the project? I'm leaving it running in hopes of finding a solution and not losing my changes. Help!
    Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   4 x 500 GB, 4 GB RAM, 2 x 30" Displays

I made some progress on this. After doing a "save as" or "save a copy as" on the audio you're editing, you can go to the bin and control-click on the file you can't save to, pick "select all occurrences" and then control-click on the newly saved file and pick "replace selected clips."
Also I don't know if this is helpful, but /var/log/system.log had a number of failures around the time I was trying to save:
    Aug 27 19:24:08 PowerStation kernel[0]: (76: coreservicesd)tfp: failed on 0:
I used disk utility to compare my second, third and fourth drives with my system drive and noticed that journalling wasn't enabled on the non-system drives. I enabled them. I super doubt that made any difference other than on disk performance.

  • There is no 'Save as' option in the latest version of Pages '09... I can't save an edited document under a different name or in a different location.  Solution?

Have a personal letterhead. Wrote a letter beneath it.  Can't save edited letterhead as new letter--'Save As' just isn't an option under File menu.  What happened to 'Save As'?

You can achieve the same result with menu File>Duplicate though it's a slightly different process - this page explains in detail:
    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/16334/os-x-lion-where-did-save-as-go/
If you are regularly using a page with just a letterhead to add the text of a letter to you would do better to Save as Template and to the Templates folder. It will then be available from the Templates window you get when Pages opens, from where it will open as an 'Untitled' file which you can save in the normal way without risking messing up the template. Or you can just save it anywhere as a Template and then double-clicking it will have the same effect.

  • 10.3.1 Update - Can't save Contact edits

    Hi,
I just updated my Z10 to the new update, and now when I try to edit any of my contacts and save the changes I get a message: "Enter a phone number or work email address" and it returns to the edit contact screen. Does anyone have a suggestion?
I've tried entering new fields but get the same message. The Cancel button works, but then I can't save the modifications.
    Andrew

I do not understand your description in the message dated 12 hours ago, that's why I am asking again.
so, you took my link, and proceeded with the installation. at some point, since it is an Android app, you get a white big popup where you choose the permissions. Do you confirm that you had that white big popup ?
The search box on top-right of this page is your true friend, and the public Knowledge Base too:

  • Downloads fail to operate i can't save or view any downloaded media files

I can not save or view any form of media from any website. The 'download window' will initiate and indicate the file is being/has been downloaded but nothing happens ie it does not get saved in the designated folder or the media players all report a failure and won't play. I am able to download all media files in IE7 . I am also having trouble with .rtf files sent via e-mails s not being read by MS office 2010 (may be a separate issue) but other file formats like .doc and .xls files open correctly.

If the files really get downloaded something must be removing them. Perhaps some security programs like anti virus or spy-ware removal tools are in action here?!
If the players reports failure and won't play please take a note of what they report caused the failure.
About the .rtf files sent via e-mail not read by MS Office 2010, can they be opened with some other viewer like Wordpad?

  • How can I save an email as a text file before deleting from it my inbox?

Some emails I want to save to my computer so that i can view them without opening up my email. I used to be able to do this by saving to a documents folder as a text file. (Outlook express). I do not find this capablity in Thunderbird. if it is there, I have not found it.

'''File|Save As''' gives you several options. By default it will save as a .eml file, which will need an email client to view. You can usually save by drag-and-drop, but that creates an .eml file too.
You can save as HTML by putting in an html file extension when doing File|Save As.
    This add-on:
    https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html
gives you multiple options for saving one or more messages in various formats.
