Can I securely wipe the flash memory in the iPhone?
Hello:
Is there any way to SECURELY wipe the free space on the iPhone (ala DOD Wipe or Gutmann). Perhaps through an app or something. I have a program on my laptop that would do it but Windows 7 will not recognize the phone as a drive, only as an attached device.

The iphone does NOT support disk mode and does NOT behave as a flash drive when connected to your computer.
You would have to use the erase all content and settings feature on the iphone. This is covered in the manual -page 201:
"Erase all content and settings: Connect iPhone to your computer or a power adapter. Choose General > Reset and tap “Erase All Content and Settings.”
This resets all settings, and erases all your information and media by removing the encryption key to the data (which is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption)."

If your machine came with DVDs then you can do a reformat using Disk Utility on the install DVD that came with the machine, click Erase - Security and choose the number of passes, the more secure you go the longer it takes. If you have a large (1TB or more) and set it to the highest security the erase process could take days and no I am not kidding. In most case set it to a very moderate setting is just fine.
If your machine came with Lion or later where no DVDs were shipped, boot into the Recovery Partition and launch DU from there. -

You can't unless you have a bootable system on an external drive you can use. Otherwise, you need either the original disc that came with your computer or a retail copy of Snow Leopard DVD. The latter contains 10.6.3, so your model must be capable of booting from that or an earlier version of OS X.

As you can see this is first of a text messaging based social engineering technique that attempt to get you to bite on a false statement to allow them entry in your ohone. On top of which as Razmee209 says you don't have to worry about unless your phone is jailbroken. A non-jailbroken iPhone will not be effect if you are suckered into the bite of the attack.

IPhone Security: How secure is the iPhone?
We just purchased iPhones for our family. However, I have a question regarding cyber security on these devices.
Specifically, we have the phones set up to access our MobileMe accounts, and thus the MobileMe password is part of our iPhones. This leads to two questions:
1) If someone acquires our phones, can they easily reverse engineer the phone to determine our MobileMe passwords?
2) When we use various free wireless services (for example, while travelling at airports), how secure is the password data as it is passed from our iPhones to MobileMe over the RF spectrum? Could someone easily “listen in” to the communication and sniff out the passwords?
It’s not that crucial now since it is just our MobileMe account, but I would like to use my iPhone for work e-mail and am not sure if this is safe or not.
In addition to these questions, any advice, comments, or other sources on iPhone security would be greatly appreciated.

It depends on what the website does, and the rules are the same as using a wifi laptop:
A) If a site uses regular HTTP with no encryption, any text data can be intercepted.
B) Using HTTPS encryption like banks do, data can be sniffed but cannot be read unless a sophisticated hacker can unencrypt the sniffed data.
C) Using a secure VPN for your iPhone (like HotSpot Shield), you can encrypt traffic between the iPhone and the VPN service so that all your communications are secured regardless of what the website does.
I don't have a MobileMe account, so I don't know whether they layer any encryption over the login, but if they're like many sites, they probably do. As for what happens after login, this article is not very encouraging if the info is still current. That is why I use a VPN. -
I Have changed my Apple ID password but that won't help as all my notes, messages, emails etc are on there, is there any way to wipe the IPhone without having it anymore? I can't erase the IPhone though "find my IPhone" app as I didn't download it on that IPhone. Thanks
Go to icloud.com. Log in with your Apple ID & Password. Go to the Find My iPhone section. Perform a remote wipe of the device.
You don't have to have downloaded any app. You only have to have enabled the Find My iPhone option under Settings > iCloud. If you did not do that, then you cannot remotely access the device.
If that's the case, then change ALL of your account passwords; email, banking, etc. All of them. And then monitor those accounts very closely! -

Took my phone to the Apple store this week and they told me it was a hardware/screen malfunction. They replaced the screen for free since it was under warranty. Now it works fine again!

why do i constantly get cut off on calls. I've had this problem with my 3GS, my 4S and now my iPhone 5. When the core functionality is Phone, i.e. the ability to talk, why can't Apple make the iPhone function as a Phone? is there an App for that !!
Well, since you've had the same problem, with three different phones, that all use different size sim cards, it seems pretty obvious the problem is with your carrier/coverage & nothing to do with your phone or sim card.

If the device has the same Apple ID signed onto the iTunes & App Store, then you can download any apps purchased under that Apple ID to that device.
I thought you were asking about a game and game statistics being shared between two devices with two separate players. What I said about that is that if it is under the same ID, then the game is going to have the same statistics on both devices, and any updates to those would be reflected in both places. So, two different players wouldn't be able to have separeate statistics if they were playing under the same Apple ID.

Well I think most people here are having a power issue and NOT a software App problem. I was suffering the same problem and after exhausting every possible conflict tisuue I went and read the specifications on USB ports from V2 to V3 So I suspect it's because slowly Apple has increased the demands on you USB power port and therefore the extra "amp" draw is causing the Apple error message.
If you're using an older Mac or PC with USB 2.0 you are probalby having the your iPhone drop out when ask to back up. So here's the solution upgrade your system with a USB card, or buy an old fashion "Y" splitter that take 2 USB ports and merges them into one. This was used many years back when Hard Drives were USB powered but one port wasn't enough. So they gave you these "Y" cables that did the job.
Now Apple does STINK for not being more forthright with this informaton letting many suffer this problem. I love my iPhone 5 but it'll probably be my last Apple product. I just don't understand why you're asked to pay so much more and little things like this get buried and kept from it's users.

How can we tell if the iphone is already fully charged in ios7? Even if its 100% the thunderbolt icon is still displayed. Not like in ios 6 that we will know when to unplug the charger because there is an indicator.
For those who seem unfamiliar with what is being asked:
On iOS 6 and older, just because the phone reached 100%, didn't mean it was Fully Charged. The way you could tell was the lightning bolt symbol that indicated the device was charging would change to an outlet plug when the device was not only 100%, but also stopped accepting further charge. This symbol switch would occur anywhere from 5-15 minutes after the device already was displaying 100%.
Now, on iOS 7, while it still reaches 100% with that same lightning bolt charge symbol, during the 100% point, it never switches to the plug symbol to indicate the charge period is totally finished.
Can anyone confirm if there is a way to see this charge completion in iOS 7 since it appears that there is no longer a symbol for it? Is there any indication that Apple may have changed the charging display so that now it only displays 100% when it would have previously displayed that plug symbol? -

I plugged my phone into my a different computer (mac) that was not mine and it asked me to restore the phone. I started to back up the phone, then ended the phone got unplugged in the middle of the backup. Now we can't find where the iPhone backed up.
If it there is a backup you will find in in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. (Just open Finder>Go>Go To Folder..., past this in the path box and click Go.)

I'm with DaVBMan and Allan. I mean sure you can buy an iPhone without immediately signing up with AT&T but expect to pay around $700-$800 for the phone if you go this route. If you plan to go with AT&T right after your T-Mobile contract is up, you'll pay only $200-$300 (depends if you buy 16gb or 32gb) for the phone, so just wait for four months and buy that time, you should be able to get an iPhone with ease.

Connect the iPhone to your Mac with its USB cable and launch iPhoto. In iPhoto you can select which files to upload into the library. Once in the library export them out of iPhoto to a folder on the Desktop via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export with Kind=Original. That will give you copies of the videos in the folder for use outside of iPhoto.
If you want to bypass importing into iPhoto try launching Image Capture and manually upload the selected video files to the folder of your choice.
