Can I sell my 2010 MacBook Pro back to Apple?

I really want to get the 13" macbook pro. My current laptop is in great condition, 2.53 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive.

Hi b,
Yep, you sure can (kind of), but you'll get far more for it selling it on your own:

  • Is my mid 2010 macbook pro compatible with apple tv?

I just purchased apple tv and am having trouble with airplay are mirroring?  I need to know if my mid 2010 macbook pro and ipad 2 are compatiable?  Because so far the only thing i am able to get on my apple tv is my music.  I am unable to mirror any of my pics or applications.
    Help please!!

It has a newer processor that is capable of video encoding.
AirPlay Mirroring in OS X takes advantage of the hardware video encoding capabilities of 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel Core processors. Hardware video encoding allows AirPlay Mirroring to efficiently deliver high frame rates while maintaining optimal system performance.

  • Can i mirror from a macbook pro to an apple tv 3 if my macbook is pre 2011?

I am trying to miror from my macbook pro to my apple tv 3 but i cannot find the icon on my computer. Im pretty sure my macbook pro is pre 2011. Is there any other way of mirroring?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course, but you cannot use AirPlay Mirroring because it requires an Early 2011 or a newer MacBook Pro.
Instead, you can use an application like AirParrot to mirror your MacBook display onto the Apple TV. It is a well-known app, so it is the one I recommend you to use, but there are more

  • Can I sell my 2009 MacBook Pro?

    2009 MacBook Pro - 13.3"
    2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor;
    2GB of RAM
    160GB HD
After some diagnostic help from a couple IT guys at work, I figured out that my motherboard is officially dead. The body of the computer is in good shape (minor scratches and slight dent). The computer powers on, but it cannot read the hard drive. Looking at repair costs in the realm of $700, I'm most likely going to buy new. So to get at my real question, is this computer worth anything?

I don't know your exact model, but it looks like you can go all the way to Mavericks.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5842
On the RAM, go to www.crucial.com with your model info and enter it into their selector. I think you can go to 8GB. The cost isn't that much. I wouldn't bother with 4GB if you can go to 8. The speed benefit with RAM is when you have multiple programs open. If you keep several open at a time it'll help. If all you do is browse in Safari then it won't do all that much.
A word of advice... some people have reported issues with older machines when upgrading. I have a 2010 and had no problems at all. However, it'd be a good idea to get an external drive and back up your current system completely with Carbon Copy Cloner before you do the upgrade. It's very easy to go back then if you're not happy.

  • Do I need to return charger when I send my MacBook pro back to Apple?

Apple is issuing me a replacement for my two year old MBP. When I send my old MBP back to Apple do I need to send back the charger too? Common sense would say yes but when I returned my 1st gen Nano for replacement it was specified that I only return the device itself, no cables or packaging. But a laptop charger has a lot more monetary value that a USB-to-30pin. Not really a huge deal either way but it would be handy to have an extra charger. I may get an answer when my return shipping label info arrives but maybe someone who has been in a similar situation can give me an answer first.

    Yes! Get a new charger!
But ask Apple directly for confirmation. We are just users to users support here.
    backup!

  • How can I wirelessly mirror my Macbook Pro on my Apple TV

    Please Help!

I don't think it's possible to mirror the MBP's display wirelessly.  As far as I know the MBP only outputs the signal from the graphics card thru the mini-displayport/Thunderbolt port.  You can stream media files from iTunes to Apple TV using AirPlay, but obviously that's different from mirroring the display.

  • I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and foolishly upgraded to Yosemite.  Is it possible to go back in time with Time Machine and reinstall Snow Leopard.  Then upgrade to Lion or Mavericks?  Any other ideas on how I can exit Yosemite?

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and foolishly upgraded to Yosemite. Now have numerous problems.  Is it possible to go back in time with Time Machine and reinstall Snow Leopard?  Then upgrade to Lion or Mavericks?  Any other ideas on how I can exit Yosemite?

Once you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
    1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
    2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
    3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system.

  • I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro, How can I install Windows 7 without an Optical Drive?

For clarity:  I have a mid 2010, Macbook Pro.  I recently decided to upgrade to a Crucial SSD drive, double the ram (8 gigs), and remove the optical drive in favor of using my old drive as a back up.  I am also currently running Yosemite.
I want to install Windows 7 onto my SSD, using bootcamp.  Unfortunately I no longer have an optical drive installed, which makes things difficult as Bootcamp does not even give me the option to create a bootable USB.
Now, this is where things get kinda fuzzy:
MId 2010 macbooks use EFI, and are quite capable of booting from USB.  How do I know?  Because I booted from a USB drive in order to do a fresh install of Yosemite on my SSD.
I have read mutliple forums and threads with claims that folks have had no problems doing this on 2008 Macbook Pros running Snow Leopard.  However, what seemed to be required was some clever .plist modding.  I have used both text wrangler, and x-code to do this, unfortunately upon booting of bootcamp, bootcamp instantly crashes.  Naturally, I can restore bootcamp because I made backups of the .plist file.
It would seem that modffying the .plist file assumes that the option to create a bootable USB device is grayed out.  In my case, it is non existent.
I have also read that folks have had success using rEFIt, however rEFIt has been forked to rEFIned, and the developer of rEFIned made mention on his site that Yosemite handles booting differently than previous versions of OSX.
WIth that, I was hoping that some kind person could explain to me whats going on, what I am missing, and what I can do to make this happen just shy of tearing down my MBP and reisntalling the Optical Drive and dusting off my Win 7 disc.
Also, my Model Number/Bootrom is MBP 6,2.
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your reply, and the information.  This is what I came up with:
I added the strings as instructed, however when I went to sign the script in terminal, I was told:
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: replacing existing signature
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: code object is not signed at all
    In subcomponent: /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents/info.plist
Also, here are screen captures of the lines that I added.  Mine are the top string entries:
Thank you for your help, thus far!

  • Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro?
Yes, if you are asking about using Time Machine to backup the Mac.
Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?
You are not thinking of deleting the photos and files on your Mac, are you?  If you do this, you will have no backups for those files.
Another concern is that Time Machine backs up the changes on your Mac. At some point, Time Machine will automatically delete the photos and files from the Time Capsule.....you just don't know when this might occur.
In other words, only delete files from your Mac that you can afford to lose.

  • Can I put OS X Yosemite on my 2010 macbook pro with current operating system 10.6.8?

Can I put OS X Yosemite on my 2010 macbook pro with current operating system OS X10.6.8?  I just bought a new printer and it requires minimum 10.7

You cannot get Mavericks because it has been replaced by Yosemite. Your machine will work just fine with Yosemite, but you don't have to upgrade if you prefer not to.
You should always maintain a backup. Hard drives fail, data are lost. A backup is a security blanket for your data.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
    3. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least double the
capacity of the drive(s) it backs up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
