I have a hard copoy of CS4 that I no longer need as I am with CC. I am also selling the computer that this was already on. Am I allowed to do this and is there anything that I should be aware of?

Where can I find a (legal / legit) copy of CS4

I am a corporate Training Manager who is trying to learn new skills on my own, for my own professional development and to create an interactive newsletter for employees at the company I work for. Unfortunately, there is no way I could convince my employer to purchase CS4 for me and I cannot afford to buy it for myself. =(    I don't want to be ripped off by someone who might sell me a fake copy. Is there someplace online where I could buy a used copy of CS4 (or InDesign or Framemaker) from someone who has possibly upgraded and just doesn't need their old copy of CS4 or maybe just doesn't use it anymore?    In other words, I'm not trying to do anything illegal, I just cannot afford a new copy.   It would seem like there would be a legit way to purchase an old copy?

I appreciate the good suggestions that I received in response to my question below. Even thought the cost is extremely high, I MIGHT be able to get this approved as an expense at my job (I'm hoping, but still iffy).
If I am able to get it approved, my question is..... Would I be able to load the software on both my desktop and my laptop?   I typically work on both of my computers (desktop and laptop), depending on where I am and what the project is.
I would hope that I would be allowed to use the same serial # to load the program on both computers without having to worry about doing anything illegal or causing a big flashing warning message or sirens to go off??!   When I purchased Adobe 8 about a year ago, I actually called the Adobe helpline and asked if I was allowed to load it on both computers and the represenative said yes, that the software allowed for a max of 2 different uploads to 2 different computers at the same time.   Do you think this is also the case with CS4 Master Collection?
Last question....... If my request for CS4 gets denied because of the cost, is there such a thing as CS3 (similar to CS4 Master Collection) that is still available to purchase in stores? If so, what is it called?   I glanced through the Adobe site but didn't see anything.   If there is an older CS3 version that includes the various types of applications (including InDesign), what is the specific pkg called?

The only thing that would matter down the road is later on
with registration if your company were to purchase more licenses
moving into the Adobe TLP program. Then you would probably want to
change the registration down the road just to say that you are part
of X company.
Also as Joe mentioned, the educational license would prohibit
you from using DW for commercial use, *UNTIL* you upgrade once via
the regular commercial program, which is what Adobe allows, thus
changing the license from educational to commercial. This could
possibly be done with the same license, but I believe it involves
paying the retail difference to Adobe.

Never try to migrate from one computer to another computer, this will not work.
I doubt that CS4 will run without problems, so you should consider to subscribe to the Creative Cloud.
If you will try to install it, make an image file with the disk utility of all installer CDs, copy it on an USB stick, mount these installers and install it from there. But you are on your own.

I used PSE6 for years and it was registered. I purchased PSE12 and have removed PSE6 from my computer. Both are full copies in a box with a serial number. Can I sell or giveaway the PSE6 and can the new user use it okay? It was was registered, as is my PSE12. I also would not want the new owner to be able to see my registration information. Well, it seems waiting is not my strong suit..! I renamed a javascript file called recovery to sessionstore. This file was in the folder sessionstore-backups I had copied from mozilla 3 days ago, when my tabs were still in place. I replaced the sessionstore in mozilla's default folder with the renamed file and then started mozilla. And the tabs reappeared as they were 3 days ago!
So there goes the tab problem. But again when I started mozilla the window saying "a script has stopped responding" appeared, this time the script being: chrome//browser/contenttabbrowser.xml2542
If someone knows how to fix this and make firefox launch normally, please reply! Thank you

My computer with a licensed copy of CS4 died. I want to install it on my new computer. I cannot deactivate CS4 on my old computer, because it no longer runs, and I no longer have it.

I want to install my licensed copy of CS4 (from the CD--Windows version) onto a new computer that I recently purchased. My OLD computer died in July. I cannot deactivate the CS4 software on that computer. It has now been gutted (because a local tech guy was trying to fix it, but he couldn't) and I no longer even have the computer. So I would like to transfer that license to my new computer.
I have been able to "install" the software from the CD, but it doesn't completely "work". It looked like everything was OK initially but it won't recognize certain keystrokes, etc. and is not functional, which I figure is the software's way of saying "too many installs on this license."
So now what do I do...is there any way I can get "permission" to install this so it will work?

I doubt the license is affecting the performance - it might be a case of the software being too old for the machine.
In any case, you can contact Adobe support thru chat and have them reset your activation count to eliminatre your doubts regarding the license.

You can't. Any version before Creative Cloud does not support high-DPI displays and that is just that. If you cannot adjust the system's screen resolution and so on, then there is nothing you can do.

FWIW, your profile shows that you are already on Lion - did you buy Mountain Lion?
If you purchase an OS from the Mac App Store, it will be listed under your Purchases and will be available to download again if you need it. Note: the license is only for you and is not transferable; if you sell your Mac, you must uninstall it and reinstall the original system.
If you did buy Lion - out of curiosity - since it is no longer showing in the app store, how did you buy it there? Or did you call Apple and they sent you a redemption code?

The easiest method is to download the trial from http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
Ensure you follow the Very Important Instructions on that page first otherwise the download links will not work.
Launch the trial then enter your serial number to license it.

puchased through Amazon, how can I verify my license key for my copy of CS4 that I purchased from Amazon will accept an upgrade

Chances are, if the software activated successfully your serial number will be accepted in the upgrade process, but I believe you have to call Adobe customer support to verify it for certain.

Obtaining a new copy of CS4..

I lost my disc drive, probaly due to age, and I lost my Photoshop CS4 program in the crash. I would like to find out how I can obtain a copy of CS4 or even if that is possible. I purchased it on an educational discount and it was downloaded - I did not receive a backup disc.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm just answering from what I might expect from Adobe, rather than what Adobe might do.
Saying that, I would think that as long as you have:
1. Proof of purchase
2. Registered the software
Then if Adobe still keeps CS4 active on their servers, you should be able to download it.
Just to lighten up the conversation, I'm having some problems with CS6.
My latest Adobe CS6 notification says it all below, and you can click to enlarge that!
I figure that if after about 90 years from now (the 32,767 days in their message), I have to change from this paid-up in full version, which their calling a "trial", then for sure, you should be able to get another copy!
I personally like to purchase a hard copy of any software that I purchase if it is available.
