Can I send a renamed attachment?

I often send an attachment to other people where I understand the name of the file, but for it to be useful for the person on the other end, it should have a more descriptive title. Often this is because the file resides in a folder which contains those descriptors. An example might be: Dave/Project A/Outline.doc --- If I send this file "Outline.doc" and the person saves it to the disk without organizing or changing the name, they may not later be able to correlate it with me or with project A. If I could, I would leave the file named as it is on my computer, but when attaching it, I would give it a different name, like "Dave's outline for Project A.doc" ... That way I'm not changing the file on my computer, but the person receiving it is getting a file which actually describes what is in the attachment. And they still have the opportunity to organize it into an appropriate folder or rename it as they wish. Is there an add-on which can do this? If not, is this a feasible add-on project? I do not have the programming chops to create such an add-on myself, but perhaps someone out there does.

Thanks for the reply.
Not to sound ungrateful, but I really do know many ways to manipulate a file (copy it and rename it, then send; or rename and send then change it back; or start with a descriptive name and just put up with having filenames that go off the side of the screen all the time and give up on folders); The question wasn't how can I do this: it was, is there an add-on that would be able to automate that process in some way? So, if someone has an answer to ''that'' question, I would appreciate it! So, christ1: your answer could just as easily have been "no, I don't know how to do that."
You know, if I was on a Mac, I bet I could create an applescript that would trigger every time I sent an attachment. It would store the old name in memory, ask me to rename the file, attach it to an e-mail, then undo the renaming after the e-mail was sent. Of course, I'd be using Apple's Mail program then, and not Thunderbird, however. Anyways; any other ideas out there?

    Why is this?
    It isn’t.

  • How can I send a .pdf attachement using maildemo_sql.txt

    Hi
    I have created a PL/SQL package using the following link.
    Could you plese tell me how can I send a .pdf as an attachement using the follwing package?
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/pl_sql/htdocs/maildemo_sql.txt
    regards

    When using the "MailDemo" package, in order to send email attachements, the document you attach MUST reside on the Database Server or UTL_SMTP or UTL_MAIL Oracle packages won't be able to find the file. I recommend you define a location (directory) on the database server file system where all email attachements must be stored and reference this location using an Oracle Directory object. You will need to modify the BEGIN_ATTACHMENT procedure to add the file location referenced by the Oracle Directory object to the filename parameter. For example:
    /* Create the Oracle DIRECTORY */
    CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY FILE_ATTACHMENTS as '/temp/attachments/';
    /* Modification to MAILDEMO */
      PROCEDURE begin_attachment(conn         IN OUT NOCOPY utl_smtp.connection,
                        mime_type    IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT 'text/plain',
                        inline       IN BOOLEAN  DEFAULT TRUE,
                        filename     IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
                        transfer_enc IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL) IS
      BEGIN
        write_boundary(conn);
        write_mime_header(conn, 'Content-Type', mime_type);
        IF (filename IS NOT NULL) THEN
           IF (inline) THEN
           write_mime_header(conn, 'Content-Disposition',
             /* 'inline; filename="'||BFILENAME('filename||'"'); */ /* Line BEFORE */
               'inline; filename="'||BFILENAME('FILE_ATTACHMENTS',filename)||'"'); /* Line AFTER */
           ELSE
           write_mime_header(conn, 'Content-Disposition',
             /* 'attachment; filename="'||filename||'"'); */  /* Line BEFORE */
               'attachment; filename="'||BFILENAME('FILE_ATTACHMENTS',filename)||'"');  /* Line AFTER */
           END IF;
        END IF;
        IF (transfer_enc IS NOT NULL) THEN
          write_mime_header(conn, 'Content-Transfer-Encoding', transfer_enc);
        END IF;
        utl_smtp.write_data(conn, utl_tcp.CRLF);
      END;If you have to send the file attachment from the User's workstation, then I suggest you either add the ability to FTP a file from a users workstation to the Database Server; use a javabean to send email directly from the client workstation or use WebUtil to open an Outlook message and attach the file using Outlook. I personally prefer using the database package to send email because you have a central point that all processes use and that makes the process easier to maintain. If you opt to try the Java Bean or WebUtil options, here are some great links that work really well also.
    Java Option:
    Send email with html body and local file attachments
    WebUtil Option:
    Sending Email via Outlook via forms
    Re: Sending email from Oracle Forms with attachments
    I cannot confirm the WebUtil options work as I have not tested these myself, however, I have tested the Java option and it works fine.
    Hope this helps,

    my 1&1 email wont let me send PDF attachments ,it just
    stays at the load screen and never completes

    Hi sean4adobe,
    I'm sorry you're having trouble with your mail client. If you're unable to send PDF attachments, I believe the issue lies with 1&1, and not with Acrobat. Have you tried contacting their support? I did a quick google search, but didn't come up with anything that  looked useful.

  • Can I send a .pdf to Pages for reformatting or editing?

    Can I send an email attachment that is a .pdf to pages to work with it as word processing document?

    Not that I know of - there may be quite a few apps that can save a PDF file as a Word or text document (I use Adobe Acrobat Pro XI for it - you may want to download a trial version from Adobe) and then you could open it in Pages.

  • Can't send large attachments

    I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.1 (Leopard) and a couple of weeks ago to Entourage (Office for Mac 2008).
    I can connect, surf the web, and receive emails with large attachments as usual.
    I've been very happy with Entourage for years. But now using Entourage (or even Mail, or Thunderbird), I can't send emails with attached files over 200k or so. My connection times out and I get either of the following error messages:
    "The connection was terminated by the remote site. Please try again."
    OR
    "Operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."
    My ISP checks everything out as okay on their end. I uninstalled my Firewall and AntiVirus programs. I changed the smtp port to 587 - check "SMTP requires authenication..." - deleted and created a new account to manually and carefully input my settings. Tried all the tips from the Entourage Help Page, MacFixIt, Mac Owners Support Group, MacTopia, Microsoft Office Support, etc. etc. I'm at my wits end!
    I'm a graphic designer who regularly sends small and large pdf (500k - 2 MB) files to clients. At this point I'm sending clients large files via Gmail - which is slow sending and slow getting to clients compared to what I'm used to with my previous Entourage. This is getting in the way of my work.
    I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me.
    Thanks,
    pjfiona

    I have a similar problem in that I have recently switched Internet service providers here in the U.K. from Demon to TalkTalk. Since doing so I can't send mail from the TalkTalk account but I can receive mail into it.
    The annoying thing is that everything worked fine on my wife's Windows PC when I set her new account up.
    TalkTalk have suggested that I need to change the MTU on my Mac from 1500 (which they say is the Mac's default setting) to 1432. On searching Mac Help it explains how to do this in Tiger using an Ethernet connection but for Leopard using Airport it states to go into Mail Help and follow the instructions - not very helpful because there aren't any.
    Does anyone know how I can adjust the MTU to 1432? TalkTalk did mention something about using a SUDO Command but didn't know the actual command to use and suggested that I contact Apple support.
    Thought I would try you knowledgeable people first in the hope that someone can help.
    Thanks, Mike
