Can I set gmail as my default email client?

I am having trouble with Apple Mail and would prefer to use gmail as my default email client. Is there any way to do that in aperture?

Gmail is not a Mail Client. It's a mail service that needs a client to access it. That client can be a Web Browser, or an app like Mail, Entourage, Thunderbird etc. So, no you cannot set Gmail as the default email client. It's a bit like saying can I make HBO my Television Set.
If you want to use an app as default mail client in Aperture then the chosen app has to be scriptable, and that limits your options. There are only four supported: Mail, Entourage, AOL and Eudora.
Alternatively, you can access the Library from any Mail client or service via their Attach options:
In any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*+(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)+*
Or any Media Browser.

  • HT1637 How to set gmail as my default email program?

Hi, I have attempted to follow the instructions to change my default email program. However, when I open "mail" and go to general preferences, it gives me the options of selecting from an application downloaded on my computer. I want to use gmail as my default email program. But it isn't an ap on my computer, it's online. So how do I set gmail as my default email program? Thanks very much!

If you mean set it in your browser, you can't As you already pointed out, gmail is not a program on your computer it is a web site. You need to get your gmail account into an email client, such as Mail, on your computer. Then set your default email client to Mail, which in effect will be the same as using gmail since Mail is set up with your gmail account.

  • Adobe reader showing no default email client

I am using Adobe Reader X on a windows 7 64 bit machine.  I am also using Office 2010 with Outlook.  When I click the email icon in Adobe reader X it pops up a window saying that I have no default email client chose.  Outlook is set to be the default email client but it still gives me this error.

  • TS3276 . How to set a default email client

I can't find a way to establish a default email client (I have 4) for Mail just upgraded to Mountain Lion. All help appreciated.
    George

It seems that you have to set up Mail first, though!
I'm using Thunderbird and would like to make it the default mail program, but it seems that I have to go through the entire process of setting up an account.  And, if I recall, sometimes mail programs will automatically download your messages-- which I wouldn't want Mail to do.
So, gurus, what's the way around this?

  • How can I set up auto respond for email

How can I set up auto respond for email?

    Hey there jimmac169,
It sounds like you want to have the Mail app automatically reply to emails that come in. You can do this in the app itself, but in order for the function to work, Mail needs to be open. Take a look at this info from the following article:
Mail (Yosemite): Reply to, forward, or redirect messages
Automatically reply to or forward messages
Mail must be open before it can automatically forward or reply to messages. If you want to send automatic replies when Mail isn’t open—like when you’re on vacation—check with the provider of your email account.
Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Rules.
Click Add Rule, then type a name for the rule.
Indicate whether any or all of the conditions must be true for the rule to be applied.
Set the conditions that determine which messages to automatically reply to or forward.
Choose options from the “Perform the following actions” pop-up menu.
Forward messages: Choose Forward Message from the first pop-up menu, then enter the email addresses where you want to receive the forwarded messages. Click Message, then enter any text you want to include with the forwarded message. For example, you could explain that you’re automatically forwarding messages.
Reply to messages: Choose “Reply to Message” from the first pop-up menu, click “Reply message text,” then enter your reply. Mail includes the full text of the original message in your reply.
    Click OK.
Carefully consider the rules you create. If they’re too broad, messages can be sent inadvertently or create loops (replies to replies you sent). If possible, test the rules.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Can't set Firefox as my default animated GIF viewing program.

I want to set Firefox as my default GIF image viewer, since Windows has no way of viewing them and Internet Explorer plays them back too slow. They run fine in Firefox but I can't set it as the default program. I click "firefox.exe" and it doesn't recognize that I clicked. I didn't have this problem with previous versions of Firefox.

It would be really nice if someone from Mozilla could respond. Otherwise, most of us are looking to jump to Opera, IE or Chrome.

  • Default email client install?

New Toshiba Satellite laptop, Windows 7, Comcast service provider.  When I click on the mail icon on the toolbar, I get a message that "Windows Internet Explorer could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed."   Sometimes I also get this message on a webpage when I click on the "contact us" button provided there.   How can I correct this problem?

Your getting that msg since you dont have a default client email setup. I got the same issue since i only have yahoo & gmail accounts which are web based.
You can set up either one of those as your default email client.

  • Error message about default email client

Whenever Reader XI loads this error message appears:
"Either there is no default email client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."
I have no idea how to fix this in Outlook after several attempts. Can I fix this within Reader or at least have the message never appear even if the client issue is not fixed?

Yesterday someone posted an interesting workaround that seems to get rid of the problem: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5529300#5529300 (post 19).

  • Using Outlook as default email client doesn't work in one important way

I'm using Outlook 2011 as my default email client, and have set it in all the places I can, as the default email client. It works as I want in almost every place - eg clicking links in websites opens an Outlook email - so that's great.
BUT I often want to right-click a file and send as an email attachment. Using 'Compress and Email' or just plain 'Email' (added by customising the context-menu) opens up Apple Mail - which I haven't even set up. This is very frustrating, and makes the job of sending a file by email direct from within the Finder much more clumsy.
Any ideas on how I can invoke Outlook in this way will be much appreciated, thanks.
    Jeff

Sorry guys... I'm a recent mac-switcher, and was immediately frustrated by the (apparent) lack of features in the Finder. Sorry! Now I'm utilising Pathfinder, which I have come to love - and of course those context menus are in there, not in Finder. So it seems likely that the problem lies within the Pathfinder app, rather than OSX. Your comments have illuminated the blindingly obvious for me. Sorry!
As a matter of interest; how do YOU quickly email a file out, when you've located it in a Finder window?
    Thanks

  • Cannot enable Entourage as default email client in SL

Help, this is driving me bonkers! I want to use MS Entourage as my default email client and I set it as the default program via "preferences' in Mail.app, however, every time I try to email a document via Preview it opens Mail.app. Same goes for when I try to send anything using the 'Mail PDF' option in the print dialog. I've recently been forced to move to a Mac as my PC died and I inherited my wife's old MacBook and so far her claims of 'it just works' are not sitting well with me! Please help, this is just so frustrating. Thanks.

Starting with Entourage 2008, you can set Entourage as the default in Preferences > General.
You can also use one of the freeware applications to change default applications.
I like to use IC Switch. It places an icon in the menu bar so I can easily toggle between default applications for web browsers, mail clients. ftp etc.

Be sure you are updated. Check under About Entourage or any Office application in Office 2008 and you'll find the application version and the installed version. The latest install version is 12.2.3. You can also check the Microsoft Component Plugin to find the installed version.

  • Reader email not going to default email client

If I open up an article in 'Reader' in safari, then go to 'Mail this page' it opens up in the OSX Mail program. I use 'Sparrow' and have set this up as the default email client (I know this as I can go to the file menu and 'Mail link to this page' and it will use 'Sparrow' client. Is this a bug in Safari?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
    Quit Safari (Command + Q)
Open the Mac Mail app then from the menu bar click Mail / Preferences then select the General tab.
Make sure: *Default email* reader is set to Sparrow
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Thunderbird doesn't work as default email client when sharing pdf attachments. Works fine if Mail is the default client

With Tbird set as the default email client, whenever I try to email the pdf, a message pops up that the default client can't handle sending the attachment. It works all the time if the native Mac Mail software is the default client..
This forces me to save the pdf file, go to Tbird to send a message and then have to find the file in the folder structure to add as an attachment.

My PDF software is Adobe Acrobat. So what is wrong with your Thunderbird software I must ask!

  • Share: where Mail is not default email client

    Hi All
    History
Moutain Lion is a great and some challenging update
I have serious problems with Apples Mail App and it drafts keep popping up. See this link.
So I use a different email client. Sparrow Mail App or Postbox.
    Problem
Now, when I want to Share my work through Pages, Numbers or Keynote and my default mail client isn't Mail App I just get a fail sound and nothing happens.
If Mail App is selected as default mail client share works.
This issue has risen since Mountain Lion update has been installed.
    Solution
Does anyone know how to get around this issue? How one can make iWork apps accept other mail clients to send of work.
Right now is old style save on Desktop and drag into mail client for me. - It's not death, just very annoying.
If anyone has some supreme solution, please let me know.

Hi Peggy. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I might repeat my self: The problem is not selecting the default email client. You can do that in Mail, Sparrow, Postbox and Outlook too.
Setting anything else than Mail as default mail client is not the issue. Done! Easy!
What's the issue is to get iWork applications to accept it! After ML update my iWork apps only want to Share if Mail is standard mail client. Not if any other mail client is selected as standard.
    Hope it clarifies
And once again, thanks for helping out.

  • Is there a way to force href="mailto: to use the default email client

I would like to use the href="mailto:" in my website to automatically open an email but the end user gets the message "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action..."
Is there a way to force to the mailto to use the and user's default email client?
    Thank you for your help

    Hi James -
That is the default behavior of browsers when handling the mailto link.
Please keep in mind that nearly half of website visitors do not have an email client as they are using mobile devices or public computers or web-based email like Gmail, MSN mail etc.
Please don't feed the spambots. Best practice is to use an HTML "form" in conjunction with a server-side forms processing script. Ask your hosting provider if they provide one for you.
