Can i set IN & OUT points at the timeline to share just part of it?

I can't find this feature...Thanx

I've been right clicking on a clip in the browser or a clip in a keword collection and selecting "open in timeline", you can now share that clip without ever putting it in a project.  Still would prefer a in-out in the main project though to save time.

  • Can't set in/out points on timeline

Hello there. I have just downloaded the trial version of Premiere Elements 12, which looks like it might have everything I want in a video editor except... it doesn't seem to have ability to set In/Out points (no button exists and  hitting I/O has no affect, despite being on their list of keyboard  shortcuts). I'm clearly not doing something right. Not being able to  edit quickly via I/O/X feels like being in a car without a steering  wheel. Please help!!

    L Prickitt
I have already pointed out to you the Premiere Elements 12 ways to trim clips in Expert and Quick - including the Expert workspace Project Assets double click of file thumbnail there to bring up the Preview Window as well as the Quick workspace maneuvers.
I have observed that the I and O shortcuts work only after the Preview Windows is evoked in Expert workspace by double clicking the file in either Project Assets or on the Timeline. There are different considerations when Preview Windows is used and brought up in those two different ways - from Project Assets vs Timeline. You really do want to be double clicking the file in Expert workspace Project Assets to bring up the Preview Window for your trims.
However, whether in Expert (Timeline) or Quick workspace (Filmstrip), you can drag the edges of the clip to get a trim.
Your recent post (4) defines what you want to do.
    - Drop video, sound and voice over clips onto the timeline (either with a mouse or shortcut keys)
    - In the timeline trim the clips most effeciently (for me, anyway) by marking an In Point (by clicking on the I key) and then an Out Point (by clicking on the O key), then deleting the clip (by clicking on X or delete key).
I would ask this. You cite prior experience in what you want to do. What program did you use - was it other than some version of Premiere Elements?
I cannot see what you want to be done in Premiere Elements without bringing up and using the Preview Window which may be taking away the quick style that you described for getting this task done. Again, you cannot use I and O as you cite in the absence of the Preview Window.
Please consider. Knowing the program that you worked with previously would help in the understanding on my side. I have looked at prior versions of Premiere Elements and cannot see what you describe. So, I want to be sure I am not overlooking something.
We will be watching for further information in the hope that we can put together some sort of compromise workflow.
    Thank you.

  • Removing between and in and out point in the timeline

I don't usually post on forums but this has got me quite perplexed:
How do you remove a chunk of media between and in and out point in the FCPX timeline?
It's can't be as hard as it seems to do this task that you have to do all the time. I have a 2 hour 3 camera shoot and I want to remove quite a few 2, 3 minute chucks all through the show. I can't find any way to easily remove these chunks. I know there's no real in and out point in the FCPX timeline anymore but there HAS to be some way to easily remove all the video and audio between two points !!!
I feel really dumb! The answer can't be to make a compound clip as that sure is a pain just to remove something from the timeline. And to blade each individual track means I have to blade at least 8 or 12 things just to remove it!
I have to be missing something. Thanks for any input.

    Thanks Tom.
I'll have between 3 and 6 layers at any point. I've tried command B but the problem with that is it only puts a cut on the primary storyline. It will cut more than that if I select all the layers. By doing that it's like a 5 or 6 step process to delete chunks of media in the timeline. I can't believe there isn't an easier way than that.
But what makes it worse as I have a long piece of audio only media that  is for the whole show. Its a connected clip to the primary storyline. when making edits with command B and then deleting what is between the edits this main audio gets deleted from the edit forward. IT's like this audio becomes a connected clip right after the edit when command B is made. it looks connected to the next clip after the command B but it deletes when I delete the chunk between the command B.
This is so silly that I can't easily delete media from the timeline in this way. It's such a simple thing!

  • Keyboard shortcuts to set in/out points?

I've been using FCP for a while, but lately have been teaching iMovie HD at our local cable access studio. I'm very impressed with what iMovie can do now, with one glaring problem - setting in/out points. I'm used to playing through my video, and when I get to a point I want I'll click "i" or "o" to set the points.
In iMovie the only way (near as I can tell) to set in/out points is by scrubbing the markers which confuses everyone and takes far too long. It's a very strange feature not to have an obvious keyboard equivalent to.
Is there any way to set in/out points via the keyboard?

There's a list of iMovie keyboard shortcuts under 'Help' on the top-line menu: it's "iMovie HD Keyboard Shortcuts".
But iMovie doesn't work on In and Out points selected from a longer clip, in the way that Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro do.
It was originally envisaged that iMovie, as a simple editor, just lets you cut and join clips, with optional Transitions, Effects, etc.
There are Crop Markers which can be used: just put your cursor beneath the blue(?) Playhead line, just under the playback window, and a pair of triangular crop markers will appear. If they don't - just hover for a moment at the extreme left just beneath the playback window.
The crop markers can then be dragged to any positions, and Apple ('Command')+K will then crop that selected video section. This can be undone with Apple+Z.
The crop markers can be dragged anywhere, or you can click on one and use the usual keyboard shortcuts of left and right cursor key to move one a frame at a time, or Shift+left/right cursor key to jump 10 frames at a time.
It wasn't originally anticipated, with iMovie, that people would import longer sections of video than needed (..unlike professional shooting and capture..) and then choose just briefer sections within those long clips. The thinking behind iMovie was "cut out and throw away", not "identify shorter section and use that, while secretly retaining full duration of original clip".
It's only with the current iMovie 5/HD that the background handling of clips now approaches FCE and FCP, giving reliable "non-destructive trimming", so that crop markers can be used to set 'wanted' sections, and other sections remain behind invisibly, in a robust Trash can, "..just in case".
You can 'Split video at Playhead' (Apple+T) ..which is what I generally use for editing, but you have to manually drag crop markers to where you want them. It's a historical thing.
You're really asking for a shortcut to set a crop marker to the Playhead position. Why not use Feedback to ask for one in the next version?
But sorry; I don't know of any keyboard shortcuts to do what you want.
    Maybe someone else does, though..

I now have my daughters iPad can you please tell me why I can't set up iCloud.in settings the iCloud is greyed out also how do I change her mail account to mine?

To change your iCloud ID or password you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your other ID.  If you need to migrate any of your daughter's iCloud data to your account, choose Keep on My iPad when prompted, then choose Merge to upload it to the new account.  If not, choose Delete from My iPad.

  • Simple question - set in & out points

I have a LONG MP3 file that I need to pull specific parts out & save them as separate MP3s.
How do I set the in & out points and export using Garageband?
I'm assuming I would just position the in & out points at the beginning/end of the audio I want to export, choose "export" (or something) & it would write that portion of the master track to a new MP3...BUT I can't even see any place to create or move in & out markers.
...at least, this is how I would do it in Cubase. Does it work this way in Garageband?

Hangtime is right, though this does require decoding and then recoding after editing. You could look at 'MP3 Trimmer':
    http://www.deepniner.net/mp3trimmer/
which can top and tail the existing MP3 file and save the result out. It is $10.95.

    from adobe
    Keyboard shortcuts: Curves
You can use these keyboard shortcuts for Curves:
To set a point on the curve for the selected color in each color component channel (but not in the composite channel), Shift+Ctrl-click (Windows) or Shift+Command-click (Mac OS) in the image.
To select multiple points, Shift-click points on the curve. Selected points are filled with black.
To deselect all points on the curve, click in the grid, or press Ctrl‑D (Windows) or Command-D (Mac OS).
To select the next higher point on the curve, press the plus key; to select the next lowest, press the minus key.
To move selected points on the curve, press the arrow keys.
(Curves dialog box) To set a point on the curve for the current channel, Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) in the image.
If you’re instead using the Curves adjustment, simply click in the image with the On-image adjustment tool .

  • Can I set Acrobat X to increase the proportion of my PC's RAM it uses?

Can I set Acrobat X to increase the proportion of my PC's RAM it uses, in order to speed up OCR processing?  Currently, it uses up to 25% of my PC's RAM when OCR processing but I would like to increase this in order to complete OCR jobs more quickly.

    Short answer: no.
Long answer: a very few programs can use multiple cores. To do this, they have to split up and run themselves as multiple separate programs (in effect). This is only really suitable when either
    (a) two entirely different things need to be done or
    (b) a job can be split up into a lot of identical jobs, and all done at the same time.
Photo editing and video editing are the obvious cases of (b), since they have to repeat the same stuff over each bit of a picture, and a picture could be done in slices. Making programs run on multiple cores is awesomely complicated (especially if they previously didn't) but it's no coincidence that Adobe Photoshop and (I think) Adobe Premiere Pro - being image and video editors - are out there using multiple cores.
OCR doesn't lend itself to this terribly well (since the entire page is context), but what could work well is a program which is designed to do OCR on multiple files; it could split up and do them at the same time. Acrobat isn't that kind of high end program, however, it's meant for desktop users doing one thing at a time.

  • Setting White/Black Points using the Tone Curve

I'm trying to set white/black points using the tone curve, but when I try to slide either of the end points of the line in the tone curve tool I can't get them to move. Could those be locked somehow...?

That's what it is supposed to do. Without the sliders, you are working with the curve itself. Now you have direct control of the curve, and can drag any part of it. Have you considered setting your white and black points using the whites and blacks in the basic panel while holding down the alt/opt key? I suppose the reason it says point curve is because that icon is what you used to switch to the point curve.

    Hey NON-TECHNO-WIZARD
You can do one of two things. The first is to just export out the contacts and import them into each other’s account. If something is updated the other person will not be updated with the information. Now another options is using one Apple ID for iCloud Syncing and then you can still use individual Apple ID’s for store purchases. The article below will shed some light on how you can use the Apple ID.

  • Can I set in/out markers by elapsed time instead of timecode?

Hi, I think this is my first time on here and since I'm desperate to find an answer I'm going to jump right in with my problem:
After reviewing clips shot with a Canon 5DM3 on a Windows computer the client wrote down on paper their desired Mark In and Mark Out points using the elapsed time of each clip, not timecode, because they don't see the timecode when viewing in Windows Media Player.
My problem is Premiere only uses the camera timecode which I am guessing is the total hours/minutes/seconds the camera has ever shot since it left the factory(?)
Here is an example, for file 1234.mov, the person wrote, "1m32s-2m14s". How can I easily get Premiere to use these elapsed-time positions as the Mark In and Mark Out points?  I have about 50 of these to do and many are within the same clip.
As it is now my only solution has been to use a minutes and seconds calculator against the timecode and then drag and place the head to that position and hit the Mark In button and repeat for the Mark Out. Please tell me a better way.
I found on the metadata tab the in and out points and I'd love to be able to just type these in but it does not work as I expect.
Next time maybe I can find them a free player with timecode but it's too late for this project - I have only these elapsed time positions.
Please help me find a better way.
Thank you so very, very much for any ideas you have!
    Bob

If you right click the clips in the bin, you can change their timecode using Modify.
On a work flow note, I never let clients review the raw footage.  I make them send me the media, then I create Window Dubs, send those to the client and instruct them to use only the visible timecode for making notes.  Even when a client comes to me with the review work already done, I get them to do it again using the Window Dub.  In my experience, it's the absolute best way to avoid frustration and errors.

  • Is there anyway to have Premiere Pro recognize the "in" & "out" points and the sequence's "home" (first frame) as edit points so that the up & down arrow work as short cuts on these areas?

Is there anyway to have Premiere Pro recognize the "in" & "out" points and the sequence's "home" (first frame) as edit points so that the up & down arrow work as short cuts on these areas?

Hey guys, I wrote a big long speech trying to be more clear and was just getting more confusing. LOL
Hopefully this image makes my question a bit easier to understand. In green you can see how the up and down arrow keys land while in Final Cut. In red how they land while in Premiere. I'd like them to land like Final Cut. Thanks!

  • How can I set up two iPhones with the same contact, photos, music etc... but a different sim card and phone number. They will both be my phones, but one will be for use in other countries.

How can I set up two iPhones with the same contact, photos, music etc... but a different sim card and phone number. They will both be my phones, but one will be for use in other countries.

Phone A = phone with information you want duplicated
Phone B = phone that you want to copy from A
    Backup Phone A.
Wipe Phone B using these instructions. What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Phone B should be on the 'Hello' screen. Do not swipe it. Launch iTunes. Plug in Phone B.
When iTunes asks if you want to set up as new phone or restore from backup, choose restore from backup of Phone A.
After this setup, any changes to one phone (i.e. adding a contact, downloading an app) will have to be manually duplicated on the second phone, if that is your desire). Making changes to one phone will not affect the other after setup.

  • Can i set up my ipad in the same itouch account?

can i set my new ipad in the same account/place where i currently have my itouch set up? will this affect what i currently have in my itouch or will it see the difference when i connect my ipad and itouch? thank you

You can use the same account and iTunes library with both - iTunes will recognise that it's a different device and you can then chose what to sync or not to sync. I use my iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch on the same computer without any problem.
