Can I set Safari to open a new window when I click on it in the dock?

is there a way to set my safari to open a new window when i click on it in the dock i surf multiple websites at once and i dont like how i have to right clik and scroll up to pick open a new window. can i set it to just open a new window instead of opening the page that already opened

yeah, instead of using multiple windows, you can use multiple tabs inside one window. That way, you can browse multiple websites at once without having to flick back and forth between multiple windows.
To open tabs of the websites you want to browse, just right-hand click on whatever website you want to visit (For example a site from your bookmarks or a site from a Google search result) and select 'open link in tab'.

  • How do I set Safari to automatically resize new window when opening a link?

Here is the scenario. I have one Safari window open, I click a link that is on that page, I have Safari set to open a new window (not a new tab) so that is what it does. It opens a new window from that link, but the new window is too small. It is about 1/4 the size of a window that fills up the screen. How do I set up Safari so that when I open a link in a window, it automatically resizes the new window to fill the screen?
    Thanks much,
    Paula Jo

    Hi Paula Jo
Next time a new window automatically opens, resize it to the desired size by dragging the lower right corner. Then, click on the red button in the upper left to close it.
Now, select a link in your existing browser window to open the 2nd window. It ought to be the same size as what was set previously.
Let me know if that works.

  • How to force safari to open a new window when dock icon is clicked

If Safari is already running on my MacBook Yosemite, and I click on the Safari icon in the dock, the Safari window is brought forward.  The behavior  I want is whenever I click the safari icon on the dock, is that a new safari browser window is opened.  I don't see this option in preferences (or any keyboard  mouse combination) that would make the dock icon open a new browser window.    (an option is available for new windows if you click on a hyperlink, but not if you click on the dock icon) .
p.s. And I don't want to first  have to place focus on the current running safari and then click File New...too many steps when all I want is a new browser window
    Thanks in advance

    Hi css,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to click on Safari in your Dock and have it open a new Safari Window. As you said in your post, clicking on Safari in the Dock brings the Safari window forward. There are a couple of possibilities to help resolve this situation. You can control-click (right click if enabled) on Safari in your Dock which will give you the option to open a new window. You can also click and hold on Safari, otherwise known as Press, to display these same options.

  • How do I get firefox to open a new window when i click on a link in a webpage ?

When I click on a link in a webpage in Firefox, generally it opens the new page in the window i am in (though some times it does not). How do I get it to open a new window (or tab) each time I click a link.
For example, on www.bbc.co.uk if I click on a link, the new page opens in the same window, if I then click another link in the new window, again, it opens in the same window. To get back to the original window, I have to use the back button twice. Surely there is a setting so that all 3 windows can be open on separate tabs or separate windows.
I have been to the tabs window in options, but doesn't seem to make a difference.

Open link/bookmark in new tab in same window:
*Middle-click (press the mouse scroll wheel) the link
    *Ctrl+left click the link
*right-click the link, choose "Open Link in New Tab"
    Open link/bookmark in new window:
    * Shift+Enter on the link
    * Shift+left click on the link

  • Open a new window when you click on a button

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie on BPS and web interface on BPS. I have a problem on how to open a new window.
    I explain:
We have a page with a button which call a function. We want to change this button in the way when you ckick it, a new window appears and present a page with two buttons which call each a function(this page is already created thanks to bps_wb).
The problem is : how to modify the button in the way it opens a new window with in parameter the page.
    Thanks by advance.
    Best regards,
    Nicolas

    Hi Nicolas,
I don't know about a pop-up, but if you are trying to open a page (page 2) in a new window (internet explorer window), then do the following:
Instead of using a navigate pushbutton, use a hyperlink component.
In the URL selection option insert the URL (web address) of page 2. You can find the URL by going to SE80, in the repository browser select "BSP Application" and "THE TECHNICAL NAME OF YOUR BPS". Open your BSP and go to the folder "pages with flow logic" and find your "page 2". Double click on your page and then select the "properties" tab and navigate to the bottom where you will see the pages URL.
Insert this URL address into your hyperlink component back in the Web Interface Builder.
Leave the Target selection as parent. Make sure your internet explorer enhanced options are set to "not reuse the same window" under the browser options.
    Good luck.

  • Why does firefox intermittantly open a new window when I click on an existing tab? This only happens when I have three or more tabs open.

Several times now Firefox 4.0.1, when clicking on a tab (three or more tabs open) I immediately moves that tab to it's own window and closes the tab in the existing window.

That is probably the "tear-off tabs" feature. A slight movement (usually downward) when clicking on an existing tab will cause that tab to "tear-off" and open in a new window. You can drag the tab back to the previous window. You can also install this add-on to stop the behavior: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

  • Email opening in new window when I click on it in notifications

Hi all, not a big deal but it would be nice to fix this if possible.
I noticed since doing the update yesterday to the operating system to 10.9.2, when I get an email through notifications (alert in the upper right corner of my screen), when I click on the notification it now opens the email in a new window. Before it just took me to my email program, mac mail and I could view the email there.  It's not a huge deal but it would be nice if there was some setting or way to get it back to the old way. Anyone know of a fix or setting change for this?
    Thanks so much,
    Annette

    Thanks for the response.
I have done exactly in the same manner. Created a new SSWA JSP URL in the form function and given the HTML URL as
    OA.jsp?page=/oracle/apps/ar/irec/help/webui/ILSHelpPG
    In the processRequest of this page's controller, i am doing pageContext.redirectURL();

  • Firefox always opens a new window when i click the icon on my task bar...this is new and I would like it to say in the same window How?

I have a firefox icon on my task bar. Before this latest install, I would click the icon and Firefox would come up directly. Now it opens another firefox window. I don't want this. How can I change it back?

Click on the spotlight icon in the top right of your screen (looks like a magnifying glass), type
    Terminal
    and press 'return'.
In the window that opens up, paste or type this exactly into the window
    killall Finder; killall Dock
(that's case sensitive) and press 'return'.
You'll notice the Dock disappear for a second or two then return, as do any open Finder windows.
Test using Finder as normal. Same problem?

  • Why does Firefox now open a new window "when I click on a link" while using? It's a new annoyance that only appeared when I downleaded or added an add-on or extension. Please help me! Thank you VERY much!

  • Wy does firefox open a new window when i click on "open link on a new tab"?????

the only time i shutdown a window is when i shutdown firefox.
having mutiple windows invites to mistakes. please fix.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Can the "Finder" icon be set to always open a new window?

Can the "Finder" icon (on the dock) be set to simply open a new window every time when clicked? Instead of always selecting the dialog "new finder window" under "File" ? Or having to right clicking on the FINDER dock icon, then selecting "new finder window".
I'd like to simply click on the finder icon and have a new window just open every time.
Same with Safair. Simply click on the "Safari" dock icon, and a new blank safari window would open, instead of selecting "new window" under safari "File" menu.
I don't know if this can be set by setting a command via terminal, or ?
There are no options under preferences to do this.
Usually there is some "command line" done within the terminal app, to tweek most default settings, like what I want to do...?

The easiest way to open new windows in Finder, Safari and just about any other program in Mac OS X is to use the keyboard shortcut, 'Command' + 'n'

  • I have an iMac, 2015 model. operating on OS X 10.10.2 and whenever I click on just about everything in safari it opens a new tab with an ad on it. sometimes the ads are mackeeper or video hosting sites but they are just so annoying.

I have an iMac, 2015 model. operating on OS X 10.10.2 and whenever I click on just about everything in safari it opens a new tab with an ad on it. sometimes the ads are mackeeper or video hosting sites but they are just so annoying.

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • How can you get CMD + L to open a new window, when all windows are closed?

In Firefox 28 and earlier, you could hit Apple + L (CMD + L) when no FF windows were open, and it would pull up a blank page with the cursor blinking in the address bar.
After installing FF 29, when you hit CMD + L (with no windows open) it just plays the system alert sound and does nothing.
I want to be able to hit CMD + TAB to gain control of an idle Firefox, and then be able to hit CMD + L to gain control of a BLANK address bar.
Every other version of Firefox I've ever used did this, so am I missing something here? Any ideas?
Note: I realize that you can hit CMD + N to launch a new window and then CMD + L to select the text within the address bar. I'm not looking to re-train my habits within Firefox, but simply want that feature like it was in the previous 28 versions.

Well, after an entire week without a word from Mozilla, I officially give up.
I understand that new software will have bugs when it is released. I understand that the bugs are fixed in the order of greatest impact/priority. I also understand that my issue is not a bug, rather a feature that was inexplicably removed.
A couple of things I cannot understand —
Why would Mozilla remove '''ANY''' features from their software when they are touting this as the most customizable web browser ever? That is obviously not logical and will be to their detriment in the long run.
Furthermore, if a person did get on here just to complain about this update, they were immediately met with a canned response from a moderator, which offered a few options to make Firefox '''LOOK''' like the previous version. That speaks volumes about this update and the developers' confidence in it. The person who gets on here with a legitimate problem asking why a feature was removed — they get '''NO''' response from a moderator. Again, this speaks volumes. I am not even asking for an immediate solution to this problem, just the acknowledgement that there is a problem. On top of that, especially in the development of software, the old adage particularly rings its truest — ''If it ain't broke, don't fix it.''
Lastly, I think we can all agree that Firefox 29 is a blatant ripoff of Google Chrome. If I wanted Google Chrome, that is exactly what I would have downloaded. That pains me not only as a devout Firefox user for nearly 10 years, but especially as I have donated over $200 to the Mozilla Foundation in that time. In other words, I have financially supported the development of a software that has become absolutely indifferent to its users' needs, and moreover, they have now resorted to copying off of their neighbor.
I have since rolled back versions — all the way to Netscape Navigator 9 — which seems to have just about as much functionality as the bungled mess that is Firefox 29.
I genuinely appreciate all of the time and effort that goes in to creating open-source software, and I financially support the projects that I feel adhere to the open-source philosophy. That said, Mozilla.org seems to be straying away from this philosophy, to the point where, for me, it is simply time for a change.
    Thanks for the memories, Firefox!

  • Does any version of InDesign let you set hyperlinks to open in new window?

I'm converting some InDesign books to pdf and epubs and my client wants the hyperlinks to open in new window when these files are viewed in browsers. so far no version I've tried has this capability.

It must be done in Acrobat. Ask in the Acrobat forums.
