Can I set up a Mac Pro as a server using OSX Server for my current Windows-based office?

I have a small business, and our office currently has a Windows-based network. I love my Mac and it's ease of use, and for now I have to use Remote Desktop to log on to my server, and then run my MRP/ERP business software from that. Is there an Apple solution (Mac Pro?) for my server, where other users could run parallels to access the MRP/ERP software? Thanks!

It is possible - even quite easy - to turn almost any current or recent model of Mac into a server by installing OS X Server. It is less clear, however, that this will do what you want.
What are the hardware and software requirements of your MRP/ERP software? If it will only run under Windows or any OS other than Mac OS X, then it will not work, and installing OS X Server will not change that.
You may be able to get the MRP/ERP software to run under Windows run on a Mac using Parallels or VMWare Fusion, but it would still be running under the Windows OS, just virtualized so that it runs inside the Mac OS. Thus it will not be any easier to use than your current system, and in fact may be harder, and might not work at all.
You could also run Windows under BootCamp, but again, while the Windows OS would be running natively, you lose any ease of use of the Mac OS.

Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I should be able to provide some help. If your LaserJet is already configured on the wireless network and added to the computer then all you need to do is plug the USB cable into the computer too. If the printer is not WiFi yet ensure the USB is no plugged in yet and run the wireless setup for the printers. How can I set up my Mac Pro so that my wife and I can use our separate iTunes accounts? I keep getting an error message that the computer is already associated with an Apple ID even though the two accounts are associated with separate log ins!

I'm getting very confused with setting up multiple user accounts on my Mac Pro for my wife and I. We each have a separate iTunes account, and we want to keep our music libraries seaprate. I've set up two user accounts on the Mac Pro and I have my iTunes authorised and logged into my user account on my user account. Under my wifes user account (i.e. a separate log in on the computer) I'm trying to set up her iTunes account, but I can't download or play anything from the cloud - it just says "This computer is already associated with another iTunes Account" and tells me that if I 'transfer' then I won't be able to use the other one for 90 days! This is really annoying as my wife can't access music she has purchased on her iTunes account on the home machine. We're not trying to do anything dodgy, just access our music on our own accounts on separate log ins on the same machine. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Allan, thanks for that. I've already set up a log in for my wife and that is all working fine. The problem is that when she logs in and opens iTunes and trys to associate her library with her iTunes account she gets the error message "This computer is already associated with another iTunes account". Whilst this is true, the computer is associated with my iTunes account under my separate log in, which should have nothing to do with hers. If she transfers the association to her account it will lock me out of my content on my log in for 90 days - I'm trying to work out how to associate each of the log in accounts with a separate iTunes account so we can access our music independently of one another without locking each other out. Hope that makes sense!

RAID5 or RAID10 or such does require add-on software and / or add-on hardware, yes.
And I'd tend to go toward external RAID storage here, as that is what the most common packages offer and as that tends to have the greatest expansion. This would involve a PCIe RAID controller and external storage here, though Apple does offer the Mac Pro RAID card for use with the internal drives.
The integrated Apple software RAID has RAID0 and RAID1 capabilities. Not RAID5.

External RAID can involve Apple Xsan and Promise and related, or third-party FC SAN storage, or any of various third-party direct-attach storage (DAS) options.

Mac Pro needs to be restarted (OSX ask for it)

Greetings, I have encounter a problem with my Mac Pro ...I start using it and sometimes a black screen comes up and says "You must restart your computer" etc etc in different languages with an on of icon. I was using After Effects CS3 and it doest this ...not only with this problem but with different applications and sometimes just by itself. What seems to be the problem?

Testing cables, memory, and looking for software problems. And then start with a fresh undamaged system, as the one you have is likely suffering some corruption of the directory.

Is it possible to set up 2013 Mac Pro with wireless keyboard?

Is a connected keyboard required to set up 2013 Mac Pro or is it possible to do with just a wireless keyboard/mouse?

I use the Blue Tooth Keyboard and Wireless mouse that came with my MacPro. I've never had any trouble using it during a Fresh install setup.
The Trackpad, however, is a different story. That has never worked during the setup. I have to get the OS istalled and set up the trackpad before I can use it.

Why can´t I upgrade my Mac Pro to OS Mountain Lion?

Being a person with great interest in photography, video and moviemaking I made a big personal investment a couple of years ago in buying what I thought was the best available computer on the market for multimedia projects for the time being, that is a well equiped Mac Pro (Processor 2x3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with Memory 8 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 FB-DIMM). After that I also upgraded my Mac Pro with a better graphic card (ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB) and extra HDD´s Up till now there has been no problem to upgrade my computer to every new realesed OS software (latest OS X Lion 10.7.04) from Apple, but when recently trying to download the latest version of OSX, that is Mountain Lion, this posibility seems to have come to an endpoint! When I try to upgrade to Mountain Lion, I get the message that this is not possible with my Mac Pro (in which I for sure totally up til now have invested at least 70-80 000 swedish kronor (10 - 12 000 dollars).
Is this really so, and if so, why has Apple in this way seemingly abandoned all those earlier loyal customers over the world who by investing their money in Apple´s Pro line of products like Mac Pro´s, have contributed so much in building the good reputation and economic ground for the development of Apple in becoming such a sucessful company? Even if Mac Pro still is a strong and competive computer for the time being, this discontinuation of softwaresupport for the big stock of sold Mac Pro computers world wide, remarks a crossroad from where in the long run, Mac pro´s will become useless and therefore also worthless in such an extent that heir owners once more have to make investments in new hardware from Apple, taking for granted that they find it still being a value in being trustful to the Apple line of computer products.
While a company as a rule always willl find ways to make investments in new hardware of great quality if this is calculated to increase the income of the company, the sitaution is totally different for all independent and creative people over the world who have a much lower budget for their projects and as a rule get no profit from their work but their personal joy and emotional satisfaction.
Do I really have to through my Mac Pro away (it will probably be impossible to sell it to a worthy price after Apple now has discontinued supporting the development of it´s OS ) or do I have to buy a new Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and Thunderbolt Interface of latest version in order to feel safe in continuing using Apple´s Pro applications for multimedia projects foor the future with reliable continued support from Apple (and in that case for how long I ask myself), or is there any possibility to upgrade the hardware of my Mac Pro in order to upgrade to latest OS software and still feel being a member of the sanctioned Apple club?
Alternatively, maybe Apple can help all Mac Pro owners to make it possible to upgrade to needed Apple hardware and software line of their Pro applications, and thus continue to support Apple in using and inspire developing their products and Pro market shares as well as continue to spread their good reputation in this area, in supporting these reliable customers in some way, as an example by giving a discount to all Mac Pro owners upgrading to a new computer from Apple.
Maybe this in fact is the first step from Apple in a plan to soon stop selling the model Mac Pro because the latest compact Mac Book Pro´s already has exceeded the old clumpsy Mac Pro´s in function, versatility and potential for future development. If so this Apple´s decision is logic and understandable, but please don´t abondon all customers of Mac Pro´s all over the world who have been utterly fidele to Apple in helping the Company to spread the good reputation of Apples computers to ordinary people through the years and thus to a great extent have contributed in buildning the necessary market expectations that have made it possible for Apple to develop and sell new products to a continuing growing market by fulfilling and helping ordinary peoples daily needs. I believe that without these earlier pioneers and supporters of Apple´s ever innovative productline, its not taken for sure the Apple Company should have reached this all time incredible height of success we all can witness today...

what a long post....Apple, btw, does not read this stuff, so ranting, raving, and complaining here might make you feel good, but it does no good at all. That being said, I, too have a Mac Pro Quad Core Xeon with 6 gigs of ram and an nVidia 8800 GT graphics card (not as good as yours, alas) and I've had no problems at all with it. Yes, it doesn't have Thunderbolt, but maybe we Mac pro owners will get lucky and someone will come out with an adapter (probably not). No, you probably don't have to throw away your Mac Pro, but if you do, I'll take it, for a small "recycling" fee >:-) That was a joke. Yes, the Mac Pro's future isn't quite clear, YET. Hopefully that will improve very soon. As for not being able to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Don't worry about that too much, Nobody is forcing you to do that. Your Mac Pro won't quit working if it isn't installed. From what I've heard, you should give the new OS a chance, and wait to get it, in case there might be some bugs, or stuff not working with the new OS, which has been known to happen. Yes, we Mac Pro owners don't like being treated like mushrooms-kept in the dark, and being fed......... but Apple is Apple and it will do what it does, and there is nothing you or me can really do to change that. All I can say is....trust, have faith, be patient, go for a walk, do something else to take your mind off of this problem. No, not with Boot Camp. I've never even tried it with a VM (which I use) - I keep all the data on my internal drive. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done with a VM, I've just never tried it.

On the Mac with the libraries you want to share:
iTunes Preferences click on the Sharing tab and put a tick in 'Share by library on local network'.
iPhoto Preferences click on Sharing and put a tick against 'Share my photos'.
When launching the same apps on other Macs on the network the libraries should be available, listed on the left.

How can I configure my new Mac Pro to output the timeline in FCP 7 (yes, I have X, but I'm using 7 right now). I have two monitors running from TB2, but want to have the third for a client monitor.
If I use all three via TB2, it's literally three monitors, and I want to edit on my CineDisplay. I only want the client to see the timeline video on the third monitor. When I hook up HDMI I get no signal, in fact, I can't have the HDMI cable hooked up for TB2 to work with the third.

Why? do you use FCP-X? that will benefit from two. Also gaming in Windows where you can use Crossfire
You have two 6-pin power feeds so you will need a small 450W PSU - those come with two 8-pin and two 6-pin.
Those can often fit in the optical drive bay and cost $25-75 range.
"500W" is NOT for the card! that is the minimum PC PSU only!
when buying look for card that uses only two 6-pin and not an 8-pin power.
75W for the PCIe slot, and 150W from two 6-pin cables, most GPUs fall into the 200-250W at maximum stress levels8-pin is basically two 6-pins and 150W feed

The Radeon R9 280X we used was 'un-flashed.' It booted OS X fine but there was no startup screen. Also, when we checked the speed of CPU-to-PCIe-to-CPU communication, it appeared to be running in PCIe 1.0 mode instead of PCIe 2.0. FaceTime can't detect a camera (Mac Pro)

I have just taken delivery of a new Mac Pro. I am running OSX 10.9.1. On my old iMac, facetime happily used the on board iSight camera for video, but now when I try to use my Philips webcan via USB (plugged directly into the Mac Pro, not via a USB hub), Facetime cannot detect a camera. Curiously Yahoo Messenger and Skype can, any ideas. I use Macam software to drive the webcam.
